Get back in there , squire! There's nowt wrong with honing yer chops on your own, but it's great to find like-minded people to jam with. Jam on and take it from there... get yourself out seeing local live bands and see if there is a central place(s) or scene where you can hang out and get to know other musos... see who is up for a jam or a side project. Looks like you've got a good balance there. I used to play in cover bands years ago, some run of the mill, some more grungey. I got bored. For me it's the jamming and writing which makes me happy. Yes, it's enjoyable to get people up and dancing but I could run a disco and get even more up. I'm not sure I could get back into doing covers... maybe if there really was nothing else happening. Never say never. There's nowt wrong with any of it. As long as people are doing their thang and enjoying it, then all is good IMO.

I guess it depends on what you want out of it. If it's money then you need to appeal to as many people as possible and thus play the cheese. If you want an element of enjoyment for yourself that is unrelated to bums on seats/feet on dancefloors, then I guess you'd play more stuff that you enjoy or maybe aim for a specific target audience or whatever.

This was my accidental introduction to Jinjer. Not a kosher live vid as such, but my initial response went along the lines of... "Whoa.... dig the shorts..... ooh nice riffage..... sweet - she can actually sing............ Holy Cr@p!!!!.....

Had a Japanese Geddy Lee jazz off a member on here. I liked it a lot and did a shedload of gigs with it. I then moved into active basses and sold it on along with a Squier that I had as a back up. I'd like to try the American Geddy....

Do you have an alternative bass that sounds or plays different to your main one? Sometimes it's enough to either pick up a Stingray instead of a Jazz, or a 6er instead of a 4 string just to get something different in the sound or feel. Failing that, maybe try back pick-up rather than front/both or vice versa??... Obviously if you have only one bass with one pick-up then this post is somewhat redundant... maybe try different settings on your amp - put on a bit of overdrive or something?

I lift weights and look like an axe murderer, so they tend to bugger off if I start walking towards them. I have largely the same effect on single ladies, unfortunately.... 😕
