  1. Cracking mullet on the bass dude though.... 😂
  2. You've got to be realistic.... I start work at 6am so midweek late gigs aren't really an option. If you've got a dep who would like to stand in, happy days!
  3. A band I accidentally (and belatedly) discovered a couple of days ago. Rock/Jazz/Funk fusion... guitarist is called Jeff Kollman - he's pretty handy... imagine Greg Howe meets Philip Sayce sort of thing. Bassist is called Barry Sparks - not familiar with him but there is some great playing in there!
  4. Stick to venues where people actually want to listen to and see a live band.... and in my case original material.
  5. 6'5" in my stilettos... otherwise a regular 5'11".... 🙂
  6. Love these guys and how they slip the humour in with the more serious aspects.
  7. Sounds like a King Gizzard album.... 😄
  8. Guitarist is bored out of her mind...
  9. Ahhhh.... it all starts to make sense now.. 🙂
  10. Thank you, good sir! Had a quick look - I like it so far... I shall investigate further at the weekend when I've got more time to immerse myself 😎
  11. I like the Winery Dogs and Oysterhead, but I agree with Audioslave. I think Winery Dogs got it right by having a songwriter on board in the shape of Richie Kotzen. I pretty much lost interest in him back when he joined Poison (Ugh!), and missed out on his stuff up to WD. There's plenty of noodling, but enough song going on to make it a winner for me. Sons of Apollo... some of it I like, some of it I don't... the jury is still out...
  12. Have you ever looked at the line up of musicians for a new project and thought, "Wow, this is going to be fantastic!" then when they release an album you end up quite disappointed? Chickenfoot springs to mind, and also Gizmodrome (unpopular opinion alert!) though I think that one was more down to my expectations than anything they were doing wrong. Obviously, it will be subjective... Any others?
  13. This is a set I watch quite regularly.. 🙂
  14. I just had a look for Infected Mushroom on youtube.... I like it already!... reminds me of Shpongle and Ozric Tentacles a bit too.... 🙂
  15. A mate of mine put me onto this Israeli 3 piece a few months back. Love their stuff... sort of proggy, trippy jazz of a sort... Bassist has some skills and a box of tricks too!
  16. Let's just skin up and think about it? 😎
  17. In my experience many of them don't have transport either.... 😩
  18. Did someone drop a bit of billy in his shandy or what? 😯
  19. Coming from a metal, prog and grunge background, I joined a rock and roll band 5 years ago. Did 3 stints with them over 2 years, I quite enjoyed it and learned some stuff. However, the whole 12 bar thing started to annoy me after a while so I moved on.
  20. The first bass played was a Kay bass owned by a friend of mine. You could've fitted a ham sandwich between the strings and fretboard... nearly cured me of wanting to play bass for the rest of my life. Fortunately another friend lent me an Encore Coaster which was, at least , playable...
  21. One session a week 3-4 hours - original material. Writing and rehearsing new stuff unless we have a gig at the weekend, in which case we run through the set.
  22. Having read that, it occurs to me that it is quite important to have more than one hobby, so you don't put all your eggs in one basket, so to speak. I guess one reason I don't get too down on the bass is because I do other things too... weights, mountain biking, surfing, a bit of classical guitar. Could that be an issue? I don't know if the OP'er has any hobbies apart from bass....
  23. Yeah you can... get a longboard or a large mini-mal. I'm pushing 50 and I surf. 😀 I would say just have a break for a few months. Don't sell your gear. See how you feel after that... whether it is music in general, bass, bands, gigs, or whatever that is causing you to lose your passion. See which , if any, you miss and take it from there. I think many of us need to take a break once in a while. I don't know many people that keep hammering away at it and still enjoy it.
  24. Bought a brand new Dingwall NG2 5 string. Fantastic bass, but the band I bought it for folded 2 weeks later, and I have no further use for a 5 string, and nobody locally has the money to buy it. Rookie error..
