1. Wow, that's lovely. GLWTS!
2. AC/DC is starting to smell. Time to kill it before it becomes a grotesque parody of its former self. I've loved AC/DC since I was a kid. Don't really want to see it become even more of a joke...
3. My Ray HH is more versatile than the H. I've played metal, rock'n'roll and indie with the HH using both pickups, while I stick her on back pickup for funk. Works for me...
4. Years ago I was in a band that did a lot of grunge. If we did one of the first tracks off an album, we often used to play the second one just after. Pearl Jam's Once was followed by Even Flow, Alice In Chains' Them Bones was followed by Dam That River etc. Dunno why but some punters used to go nuts over that. *shrug*
5. That thing should have been drowned at birth... Ugh....
6. I used to play flamenco when I was a kid. It's something I'd love to get back into, given the time and a decent teacher. A satisfying genre of music to play!
7.
Rich may have been hated, but I bet he had no problem finding a bass player when he needed one...............
Probably true. but I can't help wondering how many top level players passed him over in favour of working with another top level musician who wasn't an *ssh*le.
8. Like someone else mentioned earlier, I'm unsure of the context. However, if he just came out with "You wanna f**k with me on the bandstand?" in this neck of the woods, there's a strong chance he'd get all 24 frets sunk in him. Being a great musician doesn't give you a free pass to abuse people to that level. But then, we all have different levels of tolerance.... and again... context.
9. Yup. Barefaced Super Midget with a Genz Benz Streamliner 900. Plenty of trouser flappage and never got past half way on the dial
10. Looks great!
11. Playing covers is a great way to learn new stuff (as long as you're not stuck playing Mustang Sally and Dakota et al), especially if you get the opportunity to play different styles. Playing original stuff gives you the opportunity to apply your knowledge in a writing context. Best of both worlds is great!
12. Nice one, bassbiscuits. That's where most of the fun is at for me personally. It's the aspect of playing bass that I enjoy the most! Have fun! And yes, Blue, we know not everyone does it for fun.
13. Yup. She's an outstanding performer, whatever she puts her mind to.
14. Two years ago I was in work on a Monday morning, sat in a chair - I leaned forward to put my boots on and Ker-POW! 3 days in bed and another week walking round like a 90 year old miner. And yes.. good technique will go a long way where carrying bass gear is concerned.
15. Hmmm....... ugly.....
16. Anyone who's ever had back issues will tell you how it can affect your quality of life. Why take the risk when you can get a great sound out of light gear?
17. Ugly, but I imagine it would come into its own if someone invaded the stage....
18. Been using locks for the last couple of years - Schallers. They do the job, but if you move around a bit it is wise to check that nothing on the lock itself has come adrift.....
19. Not bad - bassline is quite groovy, but it lacks the grunt that RHCP used to deliver. I sort of lost interest after Blood Sugar Sex Magic and they got a bit too commercial for my taste. Don't blame 'em for that, though. Good luck to them - they've earned their success.
20. Is it possible to get along to BF mission control and try one out? Newton Abbot to Brighton isn't that big a shlep for the investment you're about to make. In other news... get one. I did. Frickin awesome!!
21. Similar claims have been made about The Eagles' Hotel California being a rip off of Jethro Tull's We Used To Know, but I don't think it ever went as far as court AFAIK. The general consensus among musos is that chord progressions were shared in the same manner as needles back in the day. Look at blues and rock'n'roll - I guess some stuff is considered more 'open source' than others. I can understand people getting upset about apparent 'plagiarism' though. I guess the debate will rumble on.... *shrug*
22. Might have been more honest to say, "We don't know what the hell we're doing or what we want"
23. I play Jazz basses and Stingrays, depending on the band. A few minutes on either and I'm good to go...
24. Male - Russell Allen from Symphony X Female - Nicki Wells from Nitin Sawhney's band
25.
Thanks, I've only used the TH at home volume levels but am liking it so far. Been using a GB Shuttle 9.2 but fancied something warmer. Will hopefully get to use it at band rehearsal this week. The Bongo is a beast, and the Big Twin 2 is just ridiculously good.
Yes indeed. I got a Big Twin 2. Running a Stingray HH through a Streamliner 900 into it. Boom!
