1. I'm a member too. I haven't dedicated as much time as I could, but I will be doing from Feb onwards when I finish with the very busy band I'm currently in. He's got a great way of communicating, it's like having a mate over to give you some good pointers. Within the first couple of lessons I looked at, he cleared up some stuff that has been bugging me for years, like how chromatic approach notes work in walking basslines. I've had lessons locally in the past and nobody could tell me about that, and yet it's so simple when explained. SBL for me is a great resource.
2.
I had one of these, and only sold when I decided to go seperates. These combos are seriously good. I endorse what the seller is saying about this unit. Essentially, you get a 500w into 4ohm Benz head with a 210 cab thrown for free.
^^^^ This. I rocked one of these for a couple of years. Plenty of bang for your buck here. Easy to carry around too!
3. He lived life to the full for sure, but it's always a shame when someone creative checks out early. RIP dude.
4.
That's why I'm not married and why I don't have a girl friend. Nobody tells me what I have the time for or how I spend my time. Blue
I hear that! I'm quitting the band I'm currently in due to an increase in working hours. The guys in the band don't have jobs as such, whereas I do. They want to gig every Friday and Saturday, which is fine for them as they have the rest of the week to themselves. I've been playing with these guys for 10 months this time around on top of a 50 hour working week, which can get very tiring however much I enjoy the gigs. Plus, it doesn't really leave time for a social life as such. So I finish at the end of January, and after a break for a few months (while doing 12 hour working days) I'll be looking for another band with the intention of gigging 2 or 3 times a month. I find a lot of people who used to play have given up to raise kids, or even through pressure from their wives. Though I do find that some of the kid-raisers tend to reappear on the scene once the kids are in their teens, and some of the under-the-thumb guys reappear once their marriage has imploded. All part of the great tapestry of giggage.
5.
When I was young I would use any rig the rehearsal studios had and never complained or felt lacking. listening back to the old recordings I find nothing to complain about. So why have I spent a fortune over the past 10 years and only just achieved a tone I'm mostly happy with?
That's GAS for ya.
6.
If the Geddy Lee bass were mine, and I was dead set on having it without a pickguard, I would print out a high quality copy of the man off of the 2112 album and sink it under a layer of clear epoxy!
Strong in this one the Force is!
7. My current one is the best by far. Genz-Benz Streamliner 900 through a Barefaced Big Twin II. Or through a Barefaced Super Midget for small gigs. Sounds great either with Fender Jazz basses for rock and roll or MM Stingrays for funk rock.
8. I got an acoustic 6 string and a PRS Tremonti. Go for it!
9. Jeez... this has got farce written through it like a stick of rock. I'll pass....
10. That is damn sexy....
11.
You will if the 212 is a Barefaced cab. I'd email Alex and put your questions to him. He'll explain it better than we can, make better recommendations and he won't sell you something that won't work.
Yup. When I switched from a 1x15 plus 4x10 stack, I had an email convo with Alex where I said I was looking for a couple of 2x12 cabs. He could have sold me 2, but instead said I'd only need the one, and gee whizz, he was correct. Top marks for integrity. Many others would have skinned me.
12. I love my Big Twin 2. It pwns anything else I've ever used (including Trace Elliot and Ampeg stacks) and then some. Very light too, which is a consideration when you gotta schlep it up 4 flights of stairs after a gig.
13.
Wanting everything on a plate, immediately, is how the modern world is I'm afraid. Even those who don't get feel that they are somehow entitled.
^^^^^ This.
14. I'm not a massive fan of Billy's tone, but that's who he is and that's what he does, and it seems to be a big part of whatever band he's in. As soon as you hear it you know who the bassist is. There are plenty of singers whose voices I don't particularly like, but you know who it is as soon as they open their gob, and that individuality is a large part of their persona - Axl Rose, Ozzy, Liam Gallagher, Brian Johnson. Same principle, I guess. It works. *shrug*
15.
I don't have a regular band at the moment but have been depping for Area 51 and XL5 recently. 😀
Seen Area 51 but not heard of XL5. Hmm....
16. Another shout for Bare Knuckle here. Got a set on a Squier/bitsa jobbie I put together. Much better sound now.
17. I'm in a rock and roll band at the moment, I use Fender Jazz basses for that, so I take one of them. If I was still in a funk rock band I'd take a Stingray.
18.
I recently added another retro two10 cab and an Ampeg V4-B.
Whoa nice rig! Who are you playing with these days? Wouldn't mind hearing that set-up for real!
19. Sounds like it's time to jump ship, dude. Onwards and upwards!
20. I've had it on repeat all week. I love it. A good follow up to the first album, and not lacking much at all IMO. Doubtless, others will disagree, but it's all good for me. I'd love to go and see them live, I missed out last time.
21. Sounding great, squire! Let us know if you should head down to the South West any time. I'd love to check it out live!
22. I'd like a Dingwall NG2 right now. Do I need 7 basses? Nope. Do I want 7 basses? Yep.
