I'm in the market for the same thing. Looks like I'll be getting a McMillen 12 step - you can either trigger soft synths with it or buy the additional midi expander to trigger hard synths.

Guitar Pro 6 is a nice little program. You can speed scores up, slow it down, loop it etc. Try to work up to being comfortable playing the piece a little quicker, say 5% quicker, than the original during practice, then the piece should feel easily manageable when you get back to playing along to the original.

Some old biddy came up and cupped my balls down at some social club in Penzance. And her husband was at the bar 20 feet away.... I felt dirty... and not in a good way....

I got a Streamliner 900 going into a Barefaced Big Twin 2 - love it! It does pretty much everything I want. It's ridiculously loud - in the rock'n'roll band I was playing in earlier this year, I generally gigged on less than volume level 1. Can't wait til we go out with the new prog and grunge bands I'm in - it's going to be sonic heaven! I haven't found anything negative to say about the Genz so far....

I love the pic! As far as loud guitarists go, I run a Genz Streamliner 900 through a BF Big Twin 2, so if they want to get competitive they'd better be ready to lose control of their innards!

I spent the last year in an original rock n roll band and we did nearly 50 gigs. There is a scene, but you really need be around for a bit before you find out what is happening where. Like any out-of-the-way place, advertising is a bit sparse sometimes.

After years of listening to NS's albums I finally got to see him and his band in Falmouth about 5 years ago. It was absolutely fantastic - the care he puts into the production of his albums is also there in his live sound too. It was absolutely immense. As it happens, I took my ex-girlfriend to the gig - she had never been to a live gig other than a pub band and she was blown away too. A cracking experience!

Simon bloody Cowell has a lot to do with it. He's trying to finish what Stock, Aitken and Waterman started - the removal of musical talent from fame. Having said that, while there may be proportionately less kids learning an instrument than in previous times, it appears to me that the quality of what is coming through has improved greatly. I would say that this is down to software like Guitar Pro etc, sites like Ultimate Guitar where you can get tabs to play along to, as well as the free lessons and stuff you can get on youtube and other sites. So it's not all bad... I've seen some cracking bands and artists out playing, and that's just in Cornwall - the arse-end of the country.

Giving kids the opportunity would be a good thing, but like someone said above - many come to music after the school years - it tends to be in the teens when kids take to a particular band/style/genre and wish to get involved. Having been a teacher in some grim areas, I know well that if you give certain kids an instrument to take home, it will be on sale to fund beer and fags down at the local car boot sale come Sunday morning. Probably not the most popular notion, but that's life...

First heard him play years ago with the Fever Dream album. Great stuff! Then he joined Poison and I thought "Ugh!..." and lost interest, me being young and idealistic and all that crap. Then last year I heard Winery Dogs and thought Holy sh*t, the guy is massively talented, and now I gotta work back through his career and pick up what I missed.
