  1. We managed to survive a gig in Cornwall's (allegedly) roughest pub, The Swordfish in Newlyn. Having heard of it's reputation, there was an element of trepidation, but the fact of it was that we had a really enjoyable and well-received gig. They seem to love their rock and roll. As a bonus, I was able to give my newly-acquired Geddy Lee jazz bass, and my new Genz combo a chance to stretch their legs. Good stuff!
  2. Hey there, Dreamcaster. Welcome to the forum!
  3. ^^^^ Hmm yes, this makes sense. Thanks for the info, it's good to know the reasons.
  4. I have the same problem. Plus, the quote function will not work for me. Also, typing my response in wordpad and pasting it into the reply box will not work either. I frequent many forums, but this is the only forum where I experience this problem. Weird....
  5. OK, thanks for your input. I will investigate
  6. I've been playing for years, but never really bothered with much in the way of effects, so as a result I know sod all about them. What I need is a pedal that will give me a bit more volume when I stamp on it, then back to normal when I stamp on it again - I don't want one of those car-accelerator type pedals were I gotta fart around trying to get it exactly where it was before. What do I need to get? Any advice gratefully received Cheers Rob
  7. This weeks new goodies - A Genz Benz Contour500 210T for smaller gigs when I don't need the BT2. And a rather lovely Fender Geddy Lee Jazz bass, just purchased from Mart3442. Good days!
  8. Just bought a Fender Geddy Lee Jazz bass off Mart. Great communication, and the bass was very well packed (I could have dropped it off my balcony and it would have been ok!) and just as advertised. A quick, easy and painless transaction - a pleasure to do business with. Many thanks!! Rob
  9. Bass players do it deeper. Couple that with my finger technique and I'm a reg'lar Errol Flynn
  10. I was never a huge fan, but I went to a show about 20 years ago just for shits and giggles..... and gee-whizz, what a show. One of the best I've ever seen.
  11. That's pretty much what I was thinking. Genz it is. Thanks for your input, guys
  12. I'm in Cornwall, mate. Where men are men and sheep are nervous! I'll take it. Been after a Jap Ged for a while. A quick look at a pic to make sure would be cool though.
  13. I'm interested. Can you give me a price that includes postage please, mate?
  14. Hi guys and gals, I'm looking for a combo for smaller gigs. I've just been reading tobiewharton's thread about combos and the Genz Contour seems to get a lot of love. The other one I was looking at was the Roland Cube 120XL. I haven't heard any mention of the Roland, so I was just after a few opinions before I take the plunge. I play mainly rock 'n' roll in my current band, but a funk capability would be good too. Would I be right in thinking Genz is the way forward? Many thanks Rob
  15. Bloody hell, mate. That is fantastic! Mucho respect!

    New Bass!

    Nice lookin beastie!
  17. This is great! Very well played and put together, very well recorded... and I really like the dude's voice. Rap normally isn't my thing, but this isn't a normal rap track. Cracking work, guys!
  18. ^^^ Cheers bud.. Why doesn't the quote function work for me? *ponders*
  19. If you bought one of the Chinese Fender modern player jazz basses, you'd have change from £500. I just got one as a back-up for my Stingray. Bloody good for the price. I paid £379 for mine. Bargain. Seeing as I've already got one of them, I reckon I'd go for an 8-string, probably the ESP one on GAK....
  20. If your music is sh*te and you can't play, then dressing up is a way to push an image and appeal to the non-musos in an attempt to ponce a career out of it. Look at Poison.
  21. Ye Gods... the first bass I ever picked up was a Kay. Bloody awful, it was. You could pass a ham sandwich between the strings and the fretboard without disturbing the Branston. The second bass I ever picked up, an Encore Coaster, was a delight in comparison.
  22. My first was a Laney 100W 1x15 combo. Crap. Might has well have had a hamster farting in the corner for all the volume I got out of the useless piece of junk....
