Yeah, fun basses, unique tone but oh so heavy for a short scale during this period. Put some flats on and you'll have the Air - Moon Safari sound, I remember a lot of people going nuts for that tone in the late 90's, some say it was a MM but who knows? I used to have a couple of 71 Musicmasters, one original and one heavily modded with P Bass pickups, they are much lighter with amazing necks, but certainly not the best basses out there.

But the quarter pounder pickup will always sound much bigger and more impressive than most P Bass pickups when played on its own and that can easily sway people if just hearing the bass going through an amp. I have friends that swear by them, personally I never liked them in the mix - only as they don't suit my style. And as noted earlier, it's all about the mix. Edit - I'm talking about the quarterpounder pickup, not the Hoppus bass!

[/quote] I mostly play with headphones at home. I've been using the Panasonic ones in the link below for years now. That are well rated by what hi if and cost under £50. Last year I went to a hi fi shop with my bass set up and £250, hoping to come home with some better headphones. Though the mp3's I play along to sounded better on the expensive ones, the bass was massively better on the Panasonic, more depth, clarity and punch. It was my pleasure to sell a bass to Chris. Due to a late train and quick meet at the station we only had a brief chance to chat, but even that and an earlier phone call was more than enough to work out Chris is a genuine good guy and someone you'd definitely buy a pint. Gentlemen, thankyou so much for your help tonight. I'll keep hold of this thread and refer back to it when need be, some great advice here. I just bought the Steinberg from GAK for £99, it came with a free limited time only type upgrade for Cubase 8. I can't see how I'd ever need more than that. EDIT- scrap that, my bad eyes and ipad made me get a tad misled.mit comes with the regular AI. I'll look forward to checking this out and then exploring further when I'm off work. I think you're right Douglas, take it easy and not over complicate things by tons of extras, great advice. Cheers fella's, I've gone from 'not a clue' to a new purchase.

I reckon I'll go for Reaper so I can save a tenner by getting Focusrite over M Audio and the free Cubase version, but then again, I like the idea of having effects designed by Hendrix's engineer coming free with the M Audio....decisions decisions....

[/quote] Tha M Track Plus looks pretty cool (non MIDI version). Is that what you have? It comes with Cubase LE and Ableton Lite Live, but I'm guessing that for just $60 Reaper is a better bet for the future, do you think so? The Waves Audio package by Eddie Kramer could be fun too....

Hi folks, Hoping I can please pick your brains. I haven't done home recording for a number of years, when I did I used a hard disc recorder, never again! I have surgery coming up soon and some time off work so I'd like to use this time to mess around and get back into the basics using a laptop. I'd prefer to do this as cheap as possible. I already have...... Laptop, windows 8, Intel Core i3, 8gb RAM, 500GB Hard disk. MIDI Controller Keyboard. I need....... A software package to record on An interface for guitars and MIDI A decent drum package to programme drums and also select pre made drum loops A decent MIDI sounds package to plug my controller keyboard into. Synths and electronic type sounds plus general MIDI instruments, Even better, a package that does all of the above!!! What do you suggest please? (Not too expensive, this is just for fun ) Thank you!!!

Right you are Cheddatom, sadly. Personally I miss the ways of Pink Floyd and Kraftwerk where the music did the talking and the press and self promotion was kept at bay. This could open a can of worms?
