[/quote] Thanks for that mate, appreciated. I'm hoping that the extra treble might work in my favour, I'm using it with flats mostly and want it to be nice and bright. If I can't handle the trebs I'll swap it over as you've now pointed that out.
  2. I like MXR guitar and bass pedals, always have. In my bass set up I currently have a Micro Amp Plus, Bass Compressor, Bass Envelope Filter and a Bass Octave Deluxe. They do the job for me and are always tweakable and well useable, even if I also like other versions of my pedals out there (sometiems more), it's the versatility, chasis size or match up to my basses that stuck me with these. So on Saturday I bought a Bass Overdrive, i never played one before and I had no time to test it. But what they hey, I like MXR, need a small chasis as I'm out of board space and surely it's a good'n at a very nice price? Not for me I'm sorry to say, far too muddy, not versatile and not a joy at all for me to play. I reckon it's a good pedal for the right player, but I was let down that it only had one real trick and didn't 'wow' me like the others. Anyway, bought a Darkglass B3K this lunchtime. Can't wait to get home and make some noise.

It's easy for people to unfairly judge in forums, so they do. You wanted your dream bass, you didn't like their reasons, big deal, feel how you want to mate, who gives a toss what others chip in with.
  6. Many a time whilst working in guitar shops I've swapped necks on Music Man and Fender basses and guitars to suit the punters tastes or just to experiment with new staff. Each time the tone differed, maple with more attack and top end, rosewood warmer. Edit to say that the body swaps always highlighted differences too when comparing ash and alder, not sure if I could tell them apart though without a comparison? But I do have a CS bass with lightweight ash body and maple board and it sounds exactly like you'd expect that combo to sound, lots of bottom end and clarity in the attack. Though Alder is a warm wood, lightweight ash has wonderful subs,

  11. Hello mate. I found on mine that I have to use a Compressor all the time. The 18v pre amp is seriously powerful and very spikey. When using a compressor you can have a regular pickup height, rather than lowering it and compromising on the tone. I tried an Aguilar compressor but strangely enough, the Aguilar preamp was too much for it so I traded it for a MXR and that works great, really suits the bass nicely. Not only is it a problem solved, but I reckon a compressor is always good anyway for big tones, IMO.

Pickups wire colour can vary in some rare instances, and a rewind wouldn't be uncommon either. The pickups wires looks pretty old and spot on according to the pics of the pots. Not really unusual but... 14 years old and I got a Rockwood by Hohner LX100B, I couldn't stand Precisons back then, as most beginners bass were P Basses, and wanted a bass that looked good for metal, that one fitted the bill. Thing is, the action was super high, little did I know that's why I was having a hard time playing it. 5 months later and I had a Saturday job in Andys in Denmark Street, they quickly trained me how to set up guitars and then I realised the Rockwood could be sorted so I set up, much better. I sold it a while later for an Aria Integra, and then a year later it came back into Andys for sale. Was I sentimental enough to buy it back? Hell no, that bass was better off left behind.

[/quote] There is a difference in the pickup Warren, these are ceramic rather than the alnico used in stingrays. They sound different, but still great of course. Just don't expect a stingray tone.

  22. I've had two of both, I like the SUB for value for money but I prefered the contours, woods used and feel of the regular Stingray. I never liked Basswood bodies on Fenders, but the Bongo made me rethink that opinion on Music Man which is why I gave my second SUB a try. If your SUB is doing it for you, your quids in, they are lovely basses. Edit: I'm with Pete, I love the 2 band eq myself. Though the bass knob often needs toning down at times to adapt to situations. The 3 band have more zing I reckon, great if you want more mids and attack perhaps.

Good luck with the sale, I was dubious about the pricing when I joined BC, experience has taught me how wrong I was, BC has been extremely kind to me, and others, with sales.
  25. My friend recently bought some 2014 Modulus through Planet Bass. They were the 2nd and 3rd to be made this year. They currently have a blue/black burst and a sparkle sunburst Funk Unlimited just about to be assembled. Amazing basses, so glad they are back in business.
