How strange! Wish I had the money to just get the 66! It was phenomenal! Best bass I've ever played! Hands down! I've played one of the AVRI and found the finish poor, and the tone way too middy and clanky, not the smooth articulation I expect from a 60s era P bass!
Yeah, it really was a good one. You're right about the AVRI, they are good basses but don't have the real vintage vibe. Nothing can replace a vintage sound , mostly as the pickup magnets are older. But the CS basses do a blooming good job.
Not sure its the same one? The one I played was in No Tom Guitars in Denmark Street and was up for £5995! Played superb! What are people's experiences of the AVRI P's?
Yeah, same one I knew anyway but also checked the serial number! I was pleased to see it there, though the price was a bit keen. Great shop No Tom though. The AVRI's are quite nice, better than the USA std in my opinion but still not as good as CS. The new prices of the AVRI are the same as 2nd hand Custom Shops (er, check the link in my signature )
This isn't really the place for discussing the merits of Limelight, but I don't think it's right to compare the two - they're completely different ends of the market.
Nice one, Limelight sure are good for the price point, but is a tricky comparison along side a CS bass.

There seems to be a change recently in "Basses for Sale"

I'm with all the above. Happy to pay, happy to scroll and find all sorts. It's s good platform for selling, I like it. Helps us relieve our gas in various ways. -
I'd buy it!
What annoys me is that they could make it, it'd just take up to 3 years to get it in your hands! I don't know about you, but my GAS may not survive that long period!

There is some slating of Fender on BC, the big boys always get that. Considering how many pros use then they must be really bad.... I love the CS basses, quarter sawn necks, excellent woods and great pickups. Plus they look very cool, and unlike other makes, can actually resemble a vintage Fender, rather then a 'reliced guitar'. Of course, like any make, you sometimes get the odd duff one. But rarely. By the way, that 66 you liked used to be mine, and is now for sake on this forum!

Seni just came by and bought a bass, you couldn't meet a nicer man! Absolute pleasure to meet and talk to, great taste in basses is always a good start but like a said, he really is a top man, Enjoy the bass mate!

I bought this bass only a few weeks ago, knowing that I couldn't really afford it, but hoping that I could claw the money back over a period of time. I was wrong, the Mrs and I did a budget check at the weekend and I really need to put money elsewhere. This is by far, the nicest P Bass I have owned in quite sometime, I've bought and sold a few trying to find one that I click with. Problem is, I never got on with white basses so when deciding which of my basses I have to sell, this is it. I've also had another bass from this series, which came to me on a p/x deal, that was also a stunner. There is something quite special about this years range, the necks actually feel vintage for once. I've lost count of how many CS basses I've played that still have a 'new feel', but this one really does feel like the original 1964 I used to own. Tone wise, it's gorgous, punchy, yet smooth in all the right places. It weighs under 8.5lbs and plays like butter. These are no longer available in the UK, new they were between £2300 - £2600. This bass is under 6 months old and has had little playing time, so is very nearly new. Comes with full unused case candy. Strap, tool kit, lead, plates, cloth and picks. One last thing, it has a very cool serial number for a 1964 reissue - L10964. Silly to mention, but fun to notice The ONLY trades I'd consider are Mike Lull 4 string P or J style basses. They'd have to be under 8lbs. If you have one of them, I'd be tempted to do a deal and sell another of my basses because due to a neurological condition weight is an issue for me and I love Lull basses for their weight and vibe. I'm with Essential on this one. I used short scales for years, always using long scale 45-105 to get some kick into the bass. Light definietly = floppy, short scales could do without that IMO. Guess it depends on your bass and style though, worth trying all angles and maybe the looser sound will suit you? The Roto's are cheap enough to be worth a punt.
In Denmark St the developer's plans currently envisage populating the area with statues of rock stars, which does seem a little like creating a museum based past glories for the curious rather the thriving community that exists now.
In theory I absolutely love your points and wish that things could continue as they are / were. Sadly, in reality, the change to the whole Centre Point area (and the current way Charing Cross Rd is going) means that the rents in Denmark Street will be more over inflated than they already are. The rent there is astronomical. In an ideal world, the shops would get together and move somewhere more realistic, that'd help them thrive more too sticking together. Just like they did in the 60's when they came to Denmark Street. My heart is in Denmark Street, I had 12 years there from the age of 15, I pretty much grew up there and worked in most of the shops. But the scene may just of had it's day in Denmark St and need refreshing, perhaps away from the West End and in an area that can promote more of a community again? There hasnt been a muso community there for years, its simply retail, stack them and shift them.
....and of course many many years ago Denmark Street was residential.
True, though now instead of the Sex Pistols living their we'll have societies sw***y folk. Maybe John Lydon will return in that case edit: why did my word s-w-a-n-k-y get starred?!!!

I'm writing this in response to PM's I've had. Yes. Modulus are making basses again, but in low numbers. This one was ordered in early 2014, was expected to be finished in July but didn't arrive until the end of September. Yes, I will ship abroad, No, I won't take trades please, just like I said in the advert!!!

Yes, you read the title correctly... this is a 2014 model, and the 3rd one to be made this year. Planet Bass, a shop in the US, have been taking orders for brand new Modulus basses, they said that they will soon be advertising this on their website. So the good news is that Modulus are back in business, however production will be slow and more bespoke. I've been selling off much of my collection recently, and just took this on part exchange for a lovely old Martin dreadnaught acoustic that my good friend has been drooling over for many a year. I finally buckled last night over a few beers and did a swap with him. Now I need to get the cash that I wanted on the Martin! This has a SD pickup, Aguilar preamp, Badass bridge and stunning satin finish neck. This bass is bloody lovely weighing 8.69lbs and it sounds amazing. It is literally less than 6 weeks old, and has had practically no use. New these would cost around £3000 to import to the UK, this is barely even sexcond hand! My pal had 4 Moduli, now he has 3 and a lovely Martin. Personally, I already have a FB4 which I am very attached to and sadly I'm not in a position to have two of these. ABSOLUTELY NO TRADES PLEASE!!!!
. If all the music stores & musicians left Denmark street & ended up somewhere cheaper there would be less financial pressure on the shops (which could open up wider stock ranges) and so long as they were all still in the same area as each other the arty vibe would still be there.
Good call mate. Before Denmark Street, the music shops were in Shaftsbury Avenue, they moved to to Denmark Street for the cheaper rent. I reckon it'd be good for the shops to move as a whole where the rent isn't crazy - but still easy to access for tourists and suchas they need that footfall. Idealisticly speaking of course!

I worked in Denmark St from 1993 - 2006. This development has been talked about since I got there, I kid you not. The council have had more than enough to time to think about this. Cash in their favour will win, music loses. For many years the floors above the shops have been offices, now they are all being kicked out and it is being replaced with residential. The shops, that are deep enough to go into Denmark Place will be cut in half soon enough with one shop taken out entirely to make a walkway to the cross rail. We will be losing half of Wunjo, Westside etc. The landlords are swearing that music will remain, but if the shops are paying 80,000 a year rent, they would say that. Damn shame, modern life and all...
