1.
Oh my. I've owned many many (about 8 at last count) Flea basses over the years. But holy cow how much I'd love to own either one of those! Very very nice indeed.
8? That's quite a number! My purple one has an ash body, I'd love to get an alder body one too. Think i would stick at 2! Do you have any pics to post?
2. Absolutely! I enjoy playing other instruments but bass is always where my soul will be, and given that soul is required to play bass I don't think twice about being a natural born bass player
3. Absolute pleasure to deal with Warren again, and boy does he have some lovely basses and good taste.... Top man
4. As far as I'm aware, the pickup is the big difference as it is ceramic on a Sterling and alnico on a Stingray. That makes a huge difference to the tone, the Sterling's sound a bit harder to my ear. A preamp bypass could be nice, I like MM basses in passive mode EDIT: I see Pete has arrived as I was writing my post - there lies your answers!
5.
Good to know. If anyone stumbles across a 63 in white (refin probably) that's reasonably priced, let me know. Thanks for all your help, Alec
Hi Alec, Mark at Limelight has a stripped 1963 Precision for sale at £2495 - nice price. Factor in a white refin and I reckon that's reasonably priced! http://www.classicandcoolguitars.co.uk/basses/1963fenderprecision.htm
6. Hi folks, Has anyone used an Aguilar Tone Hammer pedal with an Aguilar OBP preamp? Did it work ok? I'm asking as I tried an Aguilar compressor with a OBP-2 preamp and it resulted in unavoidable slight overdrive. (ended up with MXR comp). It'd be used in a headphone set up, not with a gig rig Cheers!
7. That is funny clip, cheers for posting that! I'm not sure what's going on with the duvet half over the bass but I'm sure it's all above board
8.
Is this a standard or a Deluxe? I presume standard by the price.
The American Series was the current name for the Standard back then, so yeah, it's a Standard and not a Deluxe. Cheers! Description now edited.
9. Cool basses, but in my opinion the prices are crazy now. You could get a second hand Custom Shop for that money
10. I've had a search and I'm surprised there isn't a Modulus thread here. I was hoping to check out some other lovely Moduli My 2008 FB4
11. That's wondeful to hear Ian, that '57 P deserves to be regularly gigged, such a beauty - I fondly remember that huge tone and killer neck! Yeah, back to this L-O-V-E-L-Y MV4, if I didn't already have hopes on a MV5 when I visit Mike Lull in September I reckon I'd have a very hard time not going for this one. Great bass, my fave colour and a stunning maple neck....hmm indeed!
12.
Thanks, hmm!!
Hmmm, I reckon you should mate
13. Oh my, that is stunning. I'm off to Seattle in September and will pop into Mike Lull's place, I have a funny feeling I won't be coming home empty handed..... GLWTS, she's a beauty
14.
What strings would people use to set the relief on a six string bass? 1&2 and 5&6, or just 1 & 6? Or, would people look at the inner strings as well?
I always like to check them all in the end as some necks can have slight kinks. But I start with the outer ones personally.
15. Sounds like a fair trade, those 3 for a MTD. Also, the two basses your cool Dad got you still go towards it which is nice. Best thing I ever did was streamline my basses. That doesn't stop me from buying new ones due to GAS or experiments, but I also operate a policy whereby each have to 100% justify why they are being kept - there can be no doubts!!! p.s. Congrats on the birth!
16. USA American Series Jazz Bass from 2004. All original, no mods. (The American Series was the then current name for the Standard model). It has the awesome S-1 switch hidden in the volume knob. When pushed, the switch engages both pickups in series, rather than the usual parallel wiring. This produces a fatter sound which is more like a P Bass. So all of the original Jazz Bass tones are there, plus one killer one! The bass is in good condition, has a couple of superficial knocks to the rear but it's just the paint that's affected. The neck is great, action is sweet and the truss rod is fully functional. It weighs in at 9.77lbs and has a full resonant tone with tons of crispness. Comes with it's original Fender hard case. 17.
Trade???
Possibly, yeah. I've PM'ed you.
18. For sure, I remember the days when checking out Loot was as good as it got regarding private sales. Internet has a lot to answer for, though the GAS can be a proper wind up at times (really want that Cutlass for sale here at the moment) I'm thankful that via the net I've been able to sort out my new collection pretty easily, after the losing the previous one to a home purchase. I even found my long term girlfriend on the Internet.... thank heavens I didn't have to chose her 'specifications', as with basses there are just way too many lovely variations to chose from so at least some things remain sacred.
19.
Et voila!
Nice one! And you just made a tough decision TOUGHER! Both looking really good!
