Final price drop: £1850 Up for grabs is my ever lovely 1972 Jazz Bass. It's only ever had studio use, including the owner before me who had it for a good number of years. This bass has a great full, punchy and clean tone, as expected from a high quality ash bodied Jazz Bass. The neck is solid and perfectly comfortable. The bass weighs 10.78lbs, which is lighter than the typical 12-13lbs mid - late 70's ash bodied Jazzes but about 1lb heavier than your average alder bodied Jazz Bass. It's worth noting that ash bodied basses are typically slightly heavier than alder ones. It's all original, including the finish, and has all original parts. Though I must mention that the bridge pickup has been rewound (very well so that the output is matched to the neck pickup). This is one of the last early 70's 4 bolt necks, as Fender made the transition to 3 bolt around late 72 - early 73. The neck pocket has a stamp which states 'natural', Fender generally saved these ash bodies for natural finishes. There is no neck date, though this is common on many 70's Fenders and 72 was the year when they changed their coding. I'm only selling as tone wise I'm better suited to using my Custom Shop Jazz Bass,, so this one needs a new home. I'd love to keep it for the variation of tone it brings but I [s]have my eye on an[/s] just bought an expensive acoustic guitar. The bass has no covers or original case.
What a super bass. How times and fashions change - I bought my 58 EB2 for £80 and sold it for £160. Seems unreal now..... the late 70s were unreal looking back, Marshall 100W, Hiwatt 100s , 200s dirt cheap, all passed through my hands. At least I tried them.
Ooh, nice basses those early EB-2's. I was playing a '59 EB-2n recently, a natural one which is 1 of 90 made, stunning sound and super cool but costs a small fortune -
Your Jazz on the OP looks gorgeous. I got two matching headstock basses, a Fender and a Modulus, pictured together with their now slightly self conscious naked headstock brother.

Time to update my entry on this topic. I finally got an ash body / maple board Precision to satisfy my woods of choice GAS. It's super light weight, about 7.5 lbs and sounds blooming huge! Introducing my Custom Shop 1955 Relic Precision, Limited Edition and apparently 1 of 35 made.
Please excuse my ignorance if I'm wrong, but doesn't the '5' on the neck stamp relate to a 'Precision' model and not the actually day/date in this year of manufacture?? Lovely bass anyroadup - droooool !! GLWTS - but I don't think you'll need it type bump !!
That's right mate, the stamp shows - model/month/year/nut width (neck shape) This one is May 66 with a C neck, though the info isn't too clear on the stamp, or picture. I had another May '66 P Bass with the same issue. If anyone is interested in this bass they can email me for pics of the other '66's stamp etc to confirm it's legit. Cheers!
It's not easy at the moment is it Dan. Keep considering putting my 75 on Ebay but damn, those fees are high, plus there is a high numpty factor to contend with. Hope you get a sale on there.
Cheers Gary. It should be gone really, but I turned down an offer of £2800 when I was still unsure about selling it, just got to wait for the next wave which will no doubt come along. It's a great vintage bass at a realistic price so someone will be well chuffed. In all honesty, I never expect a bass over £2k to sell fast, but what usually happens is you get 2 or 3 people showing interest at once, after none have for weeks. It just happened on my Custom Shop 55 P Bass which I sold yesterday, two guys decided to pull the trigger on the same day! Only thing that bothers me is that the '66 is still in my home, teasing me constantly to keep it. I'm having to ban myself from playing it!!!

Very nice looking bass, great addition to your set too. And with a name like Natasha, how much sweeter can you get? Enjoy your lovely new P Bass!

The only bass I ever regretted selling was a '78 Sabre. The tone was outstanding and recorded beautifully. Molan is spot on about the necks though, mine was very twisted and needed a slightly higher action, but it was worth it for the tone!

That's great, enjoy the gigs! I'm a convert to light basses with decent wood too, I recently got 7.5lb Fender with a swamp ash body, no going back now!

Lovely, sweet grain too

I just saw a Modulus Flea sell for $4000 on eBay USA this morning, that's £2400! Ok, it had the Lane Poor pickup and the Flea logo on the head, but $4000???? I'm wondering if this is a one off or if the prices have now finally gone up due to Modulus being bankrupt? Time will tell. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Modulus-Flea-Bass-4-String-Lane-Poor-Pickups-/161259924287
