Many prices are nuts these days. My Mike Lull PJ4 cost me £1999 in 2015, now they are £2999. I love that bass, and as its a quality custom build £3k is not outrageous, but I wouldn’t pay that for one now. My MM Stingray Special HH was £2200 in 2018, which was high then IMO, now they are nearer to £3k, which is crazy too. All that said, the value, desirability and reasons to pay out is subjective to the buyer, and I can see why people would pay these prices, for a CS too, and that’s cool with me.

Had the guitar version of that as a teen, £40 I think, back in 1996. It’s a cheapie with a vibe in the looks department 😊

From the age of 15-20, I checked the date of every Ric 4001 to see if it matched my month and year of birth. Then a guy I was playing with said he’d buy me a Ric, I chose from 5 or 6, doing a sound test before looking at the date. I narrowed it to two, and found one had my birth dates... ... but, the slight difference in scale and position to my other basses meant I was fluffing the odd notes at gigs when not looking at the board. And the playing position was all wrong for me Dream bass no more.

Not exactly ‘high end’, but a US Stingray. Had the bass from an 18 yr old, my first proper bass. Years later I started using 60s Ps & Js with flats and decided to go to town on the Stingray after selling some nice basses to fund the Fenders. It had extra MM & P pickups, active/passive and coil split for MM pups. All positions sounded really good. Sold it a few years later after a tough period. Tried to buy it back but the guy I sold it to stopped communicating and must have sold it on. I kept searching regularly though. The beauty of it being so customised was that when it popped up on eBay last month I spotted it and was the only bidder - and got it back. After all the mods, it’s back to original partly for nostalgia reasons but also as it’s just too much for me to tinker with, but it sounded great with them. Here’s pics of when I got it back, and now.

A bit Stingray heavy after getting back my beloved & long lost ‘95 Ray, 25 years after I originally bought it. So the bottom 3 are the only ones put out to play now that it’s back.
