Question: Fender custom shop Mark Kendrick 66 value
Chiliwailer replied to SurroundedByManatees's topic in Bass Guitars
Good calls about a new certificate - I’m ‘fairly’ sure they don’t back date though, which is very odd, so for example if it’s a 2016 bass, the certificate will say 2021! -
Question: Fender custom shop Mark Kendrick 66 value
Chiliwailer replied to SurroundedByManatees's topic in Bass Guitars
CS prices seem to be going up quite a bit, so for a MB without issues that’s a good price relatively. I don’t think play wear is a big issue with a reissue style bass. Missing certificates are another matter though, but if it’s young enough Fender customer service can give you the Shop Floor Traveller if you have the serial number, so you can check via the spec if it really is what it is - or if it’s a bitsa or fake. I know a British retailer that was looking into faking them, or parting out stolen ones 🙄 I wonder if MB have their own stamps on the body, like on the neck? Worth checking out what it’s got if it’s not pictured. -

Currently got one too many, so no chance of one more coming in. Unless it’s my old, FB4, or first Stingray, or even my old Sabre, perhaps that moded Musicmaster, or the LPB CS Jazz my wife wishes I still had ... oh sh’t that went well 🤔
-
Haha, only just saw this!

@hiram.k.hackenbacker is the purple FB4’s current guardian, I only half regret selling it though would buy it back if Warren ever lost his marbles 😂 I’ve had another since, but couldn’t really justify keeping it. But, one like yours would easily persuade me - that one has it all for me 👍

I’ve been wondering about those RevOlLite basses for some time, 7lbs is great, nice score Paul! Is there any downward neck pull on a strap?
-
Remember those matt 3 ply guards from the 90s? I was gutted when they stopped them, so got one made for my Special 😊 Not easy to photo, but loving the contrast.

Looks aged white to me, especially as the colour ageing is inconsistent, where as it’s not on the blond, and the wear is different too in regards to colouration.
-
Blond was an option, check out the price lists towards the bottom of this link https://guitar-compare.com/catalogs/fender-catalogs or here: https://guitar-compare.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/1977-April-1.pdf I honestly can’t ever recall ever seeing any though that had a grain like the 50’s. Might be worth a Gbase or Google image search.

Good move 👍 Lighter than stock, low tension, strings may help get on with the neck.

Anyone recognise this P bass pickup serial number?
Chiliwailer replied to Paul S's topic in Repairs and Technical
Bit of a long shot, but maybe it was going spare after the early trend of putting in DiMarzio was done. Or it was bought from Roka’s in Denmark St who at one point had a huge surplus of old Fender spares. 🤔 -
That’s great to hear, in better times I’d love to go visit and catch up with him. It’s amazing how the years pass by...

And PG looks great BTW 👍

So glad you mentioned Dave, I worked with him in the early 90’s as a 15 year old, and had no idea about Eternal. Couldn’t of happened to a nicer guy.

Mostly had good experiences, 5 x high end basses and other bits and pieces, though had a couple of frustrating little wobbles. But despite threads like this, I still think our bass community is better off with a store like BD.

I sold @James79 a bass recently - James is new to buying here but everything went smoothly, and its clear to see he’s a pleasure to deal with and a good guy.

Thomastik Infeld TI flats JF344 - tension figures

I hadn’t before, but just tried my P Bass and get what you might be feeling. I like the strings, but the gauges are bonkers - works for me though on some basses. -

Absolutely, and the superlight A string and light D add to the mix of that I reckon. edit - doh, just seen that mentioned in later posts 😂 -

How can two versions of the same bass be *that* different?
Chiliwailer replied to 40hz's topic in Bass Guitars
Yeah I found the pup and pre’s make a big difference on the Flea’s. I was lucky enough to compare the purple one to 4 other FB4’s with the same pup, pre and bridge. The purple was always my favourite, it just had a touch more punch, but 3 were amazing too, and 1 was just average.
