Withdrawn - Bravewood 1962 Jazz Bass - Slab Board, Ash Body.
Chiliwailer replied to Chiliwailer's topic in Basses For Sale
The original Bravewood listing says 'neck depth at first fret (not including fret) is 21mm, 24.75 mm at the 12th'. To me, it's a fuller C shape than my old Custom Shop '63 Jazz, and not as chunky as some of the Custom Shop U shape necks, but that's just from memory. Either way, it's very comfortable. Width is standard for a Jazz. Thanks. -

First time I’ve ever had to leave a negative... Rich agreed a deal on 23/12, said he’d pay, didn’t. Then later said he’d pay again in 27/12, and didn’t again. Then deleted our conversion on 1/1 without even a word. Thing is, all was amicable and fine prior to being ditched. Not cool Rich, I was more then patient with your excuses for late payment, I put no pressure on you, and yet got the proverbial middle finger.

Gbase.com is good for seeing what’s in the States, and you can search by years.

Withdrawn - it’s far too good. Bought in August ‘20, it’s a stunning Bravewood with slab board, ash body, Radioshop pickups, and tons of mojo. Sounds outstanding. Bravewoods sell themselves, so I’ll just leave it there. Weighs 9lbs according to the original listing on the BW website. ***The last photo, form the Bravewood website, is closest to showing the colour of the bass. I may retake photos if I get a chance. No issues, and well looked after.

That time when you play a bass you were going to sell

I’d love to say yes, just to see your mind melt when you have to decide which to part with 😁 -

Similar thing keeps happening with my Bravewood Jazz. It’s a seriously killer bass, it’s just that I’m a P Bass and StingRay guy first. I like having a Jazz in the house but often wonder if I really need such a good/expensive one for the odd play, and it’s a relic which really goes against my grain. Then I play it, and think I should keep it. Happens monthly, I really should know better and just settle 🙄 -
Just bought a pedal, all good thanks 👍

Yeah, played a few at Andertons the week they came out. Too many variables though to say the exact cause of difference, the single H were heavier and had ebony or rosewood boards. It’s also the same old thing of the same spec bass won’t always sound the same on each example. I get that the signal has to travel through additional components on a HH, but they always fundamentally sound like a Ray to me. I guess the only real way to know is to alter/test a HH as a H... but life it surely too short 😀

So, just bought one, and now requested return,, after my mate sent me this email Empress sent him...

I sold Franck @MELLOW a bass recently, in an easy going, no hassle, and friendly sale. Everything went smoothly, would definitely recommend 👍

Difference between a Stingray Special and Classic
Chiliwailer replied to lancer's topic in Bass Guitars
I think the first thing you’ll notice is a massive difference in ergonomics, the Special has been cleverly designed that way as its lighter and contoured beautifully for feel (even better than pre-2018 Rays IMO) but the Classic is a no frills weighty slab body. The gloss neck on the Classic is the next difference, and the profile is different. They both sound great, just different. The EQ on the Special is super flexible and sounds great through the range. The Classic EQ is simpler and not as well engineered IMO, but still sounds great for doing what it says on the tin. The Special is a more modern tone, but the EQ can get into the old school territory-ish. I prefer that the G string aligns to the poles better on the Special too. I almost have both, a versatile HH Special with rounds and an Old Smoothie with flats. If I had to just have one then it’d be the Special. Get both 😂 Congrats 👍 -
The Wednesday issue was due to a phone number error on your side, which I know was rectified in good time. More clarity and early warning on collections would have been helpful, I’m sure I’m not the only one that this is an issue for. As luck might have it, the courier had to come to my door today because he didn’t get the phone number. How ironic. Sometimes the ball gets dropped eh?
-
Apparently they won’t come to my door because they are a freight company, not a courier. So not Covid related - just a miss sell. Booked Monday, missed collection Wednesday, only find out Thursday - just doesn’t sit right with me.
-
Having a poor experience with them unfortunately. Firstly they failed to collect yesterday. Now I’ve just been told the ‘courier’ they are using won’t collect from the door of my flat. I have a physical condition so getting the bass down to the street (only place they’ll collect) will definitely raise my pain levels no end. Super pi**ed off.

‘74 Jazz bass and the fear of getting it refretted
Chiliwailer replied to mike f's topic in General Discussion
Personally I’d get it done (if the current frets stop it playing properly) either with low profile frets or by having the new frets stoned down to stop that brand new feeling. That said, isn’t it Brian May who won’t refret his Red Special? So you’re not daft. -

Could be two way truss, what happens if you keep tightening - or at least going in that direction?!
-
I think you’re right Guy, my experience from working in vintage shops and playing a fair few is that there can be quiet a difference. The necks were made and finished by hand after alL edit - and not to Lull or Sadowsky highly skilled and expected exact measurements!
