I’m hazy on that tbh - it’s been well over 10 years since I was in the know. £600 rings a bell. I can’t recall if that’s just body or neck and body. I know it’s not cheap though, hopefully someone will come along and put me right. Just remembered he also makes Dwight guitars - some by hand and some from parts IIRC. Not cheap though.

Yup - and to top it all off he’s such a nice fella. Loves chatting about old guitars, and can still laugh at the hype of old gear - “people think they are made of pixie dust” was my favourite line!

A LPB Jazz or Sherwood Green P would be very tempting for me... but in reality I’m very pleased that this is one that deserves keeping. I agree with you both about how good these feel, compared to other options out there these are very special. For me, Clive Brown does a relic that’s closest to the real thing - but he doesn’t make guitars or basses, so Bravewood have definitely got the prime spot and huge resect from me. Thanks to you both 👍

One last post - just had another hour on it, playing to tunes, drum loops and a recording a friend just made. This neck is just delicious and very special, the tone is wonderful and the overall looks and vibe keep making me stop playing and just check it out 🤣 I’ve known I was going to get another Jazz for some months, but was waiting for something special rather, than follow my GAS. Feel like I’ve been rewarded for waiting.

Urgh... understandable, but well worth a try!

Well... it does exactly what it says on the tin.

@marleaux62 & @GuyR - as you asked for my thoughts... The bass arrived today, I put some flats on and have had about an hour playing. It sounds fantastic, very clear and crisp with some awesome lows on the E string. I’m looking forward to getting to know it over the next week when playing it with less of that ‘new bass anticipation’ thing going on. The vintage vibe is there in buckets, and at times when playing I really did think I was on an old bass when I looked at the neck! It’s not a bass that’d fool a collector or vintage fan, but that’s not really the point is it? I think it’s a great value, but high quality and lovingly made, unique instrument. And throughout the sale John was awesome, especially while two couriers tried their best to screw this up.... but the Bravewood won, and I got it on time.

I’ve always heard it was approx 6 months, around early 66. They were going for that Gibson style deluxe look with the blocks and binding, and the Jazz was supposed to be the deluxe model. Happy to be corrected.

For me, the basses were still as good (and sometimes bad) as Pre CBS until the design overhaul in ‘68. I’ve owned some absolutely cracking 66’s. The excellent ‘Fender Golden Age’ book puts that period as 1946 - 1970. But when I see the yellow & green wires on a ‘68 bass (because fender were using up old amp wires) I don’t know whether to laugh or cry!

Of the vintage Fender’s I’ve owned, these were my favourite 3. A ‘64 Jazz (refin), ‘64 P, and a heavily nodded, and awesome, ‘71 Musicmaster. All were sold years back as I needed a deposit to buy a flat, out went a load of other vintage gear too. @Davo-London has the P, it’s in very good hands. I’ve been lucky to have some other great old Fenders before and since, but these 3 were a special combo.

Stunning 👍

Vintage Fender Jazz - opinions anyone?
Chiliwailer replied to Grewster's topic in General Discussion
Just seen this bass on eBay, with a photo of the back of the body. It has the nail marks in the right place for a ‘69. £3k is a bit steep though.... -
That’s all good to hear from you Guy, I hoped the neck would be great as the necks so often let down the CS basses. I’ll post my thoughts on this thread when it comes. Congrats on the 65 👍

Thanks Guy. Having owned a fair few origins 50s & 60s & custom shops I’m very much looking forward to this one. Especially as the vintage ones are out of my price now and the CS ones, as great as they can be, don’t feel quite so special to me anymore - and are also way too blooming expensive now! Always had a soft spot for an ash bodied Jazz with a blonde finish - sealed the deal.

Sold - arrives Tuesday 😁 Thanks for the tip @marleaux62

Not surprised mate, it’s a perfect partner for your purple Modulus.

The Fender guys didn’t mind, but the Music Man rep (a real salt of the earth and lovely guy) got panicked as I never told him which neck swaps we did, so their records were out. It was ok to swap a neck on same spec gear, the customer was always happy and ended up with a top notch set up too. Anyway @hiram.k.hackenbacker, haven’t you got a credit note at BD? https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/MM_SR4HH_BFR_Pink_Champagne_Sparkle.html

I think as well as not giving a toss, Adrian is naive - you can’t write anything digitally these days and not expect that it could go to social media. Prevention is better than cure, and being professional shouldn’t be a big ask. No way I’d give that guy my hard earned.

The stacked pots each had a resistor attached, which the signal passed through. This was in addition to the capacitor(s) that is still used.

Thanks Mark, for another perfect sale. Always a pleasure

Interesting that, wonder if it’s because of the (obviously expected) issue with fakes?

Very true from my experience, it’d be my 1st choice

Gentleman, this 1960 Jazz Bass chat is just small talk Gibson Les Paul - 1959 - £250,000 😳 https://www.gbase.com/gear/gibson-les-paul-standard-1959-sunburst-2 A LP with humbuckers was made from 1957-1960, then the LP was discontinued until about 1969 I think so less now vintage LP’s were made. People love the 59 neck, and ones with a good flame are very desirable. Rare in a true sense, but totally bonkers.
