  1. Never thought a P Bass would make you break the fast....
  2. Black was still a custom colour back then, so they are not so common. Lovely bass... Angel Music was my favourite honest vintage shop. James was a co-owner and knows a good guitar when he sees it, I’m sure this one is a beauty, especially at that weight. I’m currently P-less which is odd, but on the abstinence challenge, so unfortunately I’ll leave the joy of owning this one to someone else!
  3. As Mr Krow says, at least there will be some style in your exit, can’t fault that. I’m enjoying the challenge, as of last week I’m 6 months into this and have one less bass than when I started. Can’t work out if I’m sensibly content with what I have, or just plain old sadistic...
  4. I definitely think so, I’ve played many CS Basses (inc Pino’s) that are average. The rest are outstanding, which is what you’d expect from a CS Fender.
  5. Mark is a good pal of mine, 110% trustworthy and a great seller. More importantly, I know this bass and it’s one of the good ones. Great price too
  6. But the 1997 Flea’s didn’t even have a truss rod! But seriously, I’ve owned both and the Modulus Flea is an exceptional bass, but quite different to a Ray IMHO. Though I totally get why some folk would prefer it, they are that good for those who get on with them, and like composite necks.
  7. I guess I’m lucky enough to have owned (and sold) all I wanted to, and have now come full circle back to Music Mans as my main pick! Edit - I meant to say ‘buying basses’ in my other post!!!
  8. For me it’s now. The Specials are outstanding, as is my 2016 Old Smoothie. My previous 2015 3 bend was a killer too. I’ve also owned a 86 and 94, which were good, but not as good as my others. Could just be luck of the draw.
  9. I sold my beloved 66 P Bass this week. My wife needing a new car was the catalyst, but the high value of the bass always bothered me anyway. Still a shame to let it go, but not a biggie in the grand scheme of things. The upside here is that buying a cheaper P Bass isn’t even on the radar, especially for this year. And I’m so tired of buying basses... who’d have thought?!!
  10. That’s great, glad it worked out. They break in really nicely and if they feel a tad sticky right now it’ll wear off.
  11. I find the 58’s to be nice and bright basses, so maybe an overwound pickup will help you make it darker. Lindy Fralin do 5% and 10% overwound pups. The more over you go, the more dark mids and volume you get. Or just get a 60’s P Bass....
  12. That’s asking alot for a refinish too...
  13. It wouldn’t be un-Fender like to not be strict on parts used, as it’s still early days. This shows it’s not far off http://www.guitarhq.com/fender.html#serial
  14. Saw the photo and thought it was from the next Star Wars movie.
  15. Did you need 10 Rays? Did you want them? Did you regret them? (Answers: No - Yes - No).
  16. Actually - to be fair I've just seen that a few of the very early ones seem to not have the rod access... But like I said.... that logo! (translates to beware).
  17. Its a fake, a real one would have the truss rod section filled in behind the nut. Oh gosh, and that logo... 🤣
  18. Jeez Warren, why are you hanging around pal? You’ve been after one with a February stamp for ages Youre wife is awesome It’s dot and bound its got lollipops its in great condition. You just sold that car... I’ll call you the taxi myself for when you leave the abstinence club. Give Andy my regards while you’re there 🤣
  19. Not at all to disagree with Chris above as I get what he means, but I can certainly remember playing a fair few Pre CBS dogs. Though in general I’m a vintage Fender fan and have owned my fair share in the past. I don’t think they are better, just different. But the prices? Oh jeez, where to start making sense of that one... lots of arguments for and lots for against.
  20. That’s a lovely story, sounds like a great guy. What was the shop called?
  21. That looks absolutely stunning! Here’s a pic of a much younger me, reunited for quick play with a 61 Jazz Bass that I’d played a few years earlier. It changed everything for me that first time round and lead to me buying my first pre CBS basses. This 61 was always the special one for me.
  22. My theory is that the opposite is far more cliche, therefore removing your left hand ain’t so bad
  23. Well you know, it’s better than bassists doing this....
