  1. They only do Relic, pay attention Pete 😜
  2. Indeed, some myths out there are that the clean ones were shite, so never played, and the battered ones were awesome, so played a lot. Years back I had 2 x 1966 P Basses, both built around the same time and very close in serial number. One battered, one very near mint. Well... I prefered the mint one and it’s on my wall as we speak. There’s great vintage basses, and awful vintage basses. The one in the OP could be either
  3. Jah Wobble - and it wrecked my head for a while to be honest. I was 21 and playing casually with Keith Levene, who primarily is like a brother rather than a band mate. Being huge fan of Jah and his style it weighed on my mind for some time - plus Keith had also spent a lot of time with Flea and Hillel from RHCP in the 80's so that was also a major weight I put on myself. It got better as I developed and got closer to Keith. Oh yeah, and also when I realised that I may be alright at bass, but would never be in their league!
  4. Barrel jacks are notorious for going wrong, you’ll need to replace it and perhaps keep a spare handy if it’s your go to gig bass. You could try rolling up some sand paper and giving it a clean, but it’s a long shot.
  5. Just don’t be asking for a set of free strings too....
  6. Here’s my 52 year old P Bass too 😁
  7. Just caught this video of Mr Phil Mann using an Old Smoothie...
  8. But surely if you remember it you were doing it all wrong? 🤪
  9. It's the White Album that finally got me into the Beatles and their catalogue... but I'm 'only' 40, is that ok? I'll be sure to check out your link when I can focus on it.
  10. He’s been commission selling his basses at NKR and the Gallery. Given the heavy ‘Pino owned’ tax I don’t think he’d give a monkeys edit- and that’s on top of the usual NKR tax!
  11. I’ve not seen any Masterbuilt basses for sale, as new, but the electric guitars can be £5 - £6.5k on the Coda site. Second hand I’ve seen them around £3- £4k depending. There is a TB topic that has them pitched at $8k. Fender did replace the neck on the new one. Actually I remembered after that the other was a warped neck, not the truss. The shop denied it, crazy. (BTW I spent 16 years in the trade, including Fender, so I knew my onions). Yes, it does make the Ray Special seem cheaper!
  12. Exactly, though I wish they did a 60's rosewood board P Bass. If, or when, I need to sell my 66 P Bass that's what I'd be satisfied with.
  13. Unfortunately not Don, the Pino basses are team built, and many of the other team builds are over the 3k mark. The Master build basses are even more money than the Pino... Our friend Hiram had the truss on his Flea Jazz break, but more alarmingly my friend bought a new CS bass that came with a busted truss rod. I can’t believe it left the factory like that as it wouldn’t even adjust anywhere near the position it should have been. Also, the shop didn’t pick up on it either, nor on another second hand CS they sold him with a busted rod. Whats the world coming to eh?
  14. I’m a fan of Cobalts, but have actually just taken a set of my Stingray Special only today. They are great flats for those who prefer rounds, but in my experience D’Addario Chromes on a Stingray is a great flatwound if you want to stick to a regular flats type vibe, but still have some treble and punch.
  15. Yes, my mind boggles at this one too tbh. Edit - and other CS prices these days. I do like CS, and have previously owned some lovely ones, but I don’t like them enough to spend that kind of money.
  16. I think you had too much Port and too many mince pies this Xmas... you’re selling it? 😮 It’s a stunning colour, from a great year, with a killer neck and, you’ve had it all this time from new. Me - I sold my 94 Stingray (that I got used in 96 aged 18) 10 years ago after playing it for ages through some golden years, but then getting more into 60’s P Basses. It took a few years to see the mistake, and then I tried hard to get it back but the owner wasn’t up for selling it. Ideally, I’d love to have kept it. Good luck either way.
  17. No new bits to speak of, but today I took out a bass that I’m meant to be selling, and well, now I’d quite like to keep it. My finances won’t be happy, but my heart is ruling right now. Luckily, I don’t think that counts so I’m still in for a purchase free 2019.
  18. Fender P Bass - Overrated? 🤣 🙄 I do love a good P bass.
  19. Playing/jamming out today with a bass I’m selling - dangerous for sellers remorse or what?! ;)

Always dangerous. Ordinarily once I've decided something is going it gets cleaned up, put in it's case and there it stays until it has a buyer.  Only exception was my Special which I hadn't allowed myself enough time to play.  Then I did get it out of the case and it hasn't been back in it since :D

      Yes siree, bass now withdrawn!

  20. I personally only put flats on my acoustic bass, and Chromes would be very nice if your other half likes flats on them. To me they sound more natural, though will have a bit less volume. Plus, some of us prefer the feel of a flat to a bronze string as they are much smoother to the touch.
