  1. Love those matt guards, good to know about Chandlers.
  2. I’ve got an HH Special and an original 66 P Bass, like you the Sprcial has won me over and the 66P is rarely played much now (but still much loved). I’ll aim to keep it, but reality says when the wife and I move house, or if I leave my job and have to pay back money towards my Masters, it’ll need to be sold - I’m convinced I wouldn’t be able to justify another P, the Special is just too good and so versatile.
  3. I think these have been discontinued. Last set two sets I got had to be sent back because they were bloody awful, and not as good as previous sets. Either they were fake or factory seconds.
  4. That sounds awesome, especially loving the tone when you slid up to the dusty end, but all the way through it sounded so sweet, and with no ‘aggression’ at all in that Ray tone. You might be right mate about the price of mine, I may change it back soon and sit tight. I won’t need the bulk of the cash until March now. I’ll give it a week and have a think. Cheers pal
  5. 100% Warren, I certainly do agree it’s very different to all the other Rays I’ve played. The strings going through the pole pieces rather than over them gives such a different flavour, and the different pre amp and EQ is spot on. Genuinely gutted to sell it. I remembered seeing your Smoothie and you sounding great on a CTB video but I couldn’t find the link, I wanted to share it with @wayne58 when he was asking me about the Smoothie. Im mystified too that it hasn’t sold 🤔
  6. Cheers pal. I knew Jo years back from work, and I’ve seen what he does to guitars 😳 Just kidding, as I remember the first relic he did, and that’s his thing Vintage acoustic specialists definitely preferred.
  7. Thanks @bcbass So far for acoustics specialists I have: - Dave King - Luthiers Corner EDIT - (Vintage acoustic specialists would be most appreciated).
  8. Hi all, I have a Martin Parlour guitar from around 1870. Both the guitar and original case need some restoration work, to repair cracks and reset the neck. The plan is to get it costed up once my Old Smoothie Stingray sells. I’ve had this guitar for 11 years and it’s time to give it some extra love. It’s previously been tinkered with to set it up with steel strings, tut tut.... I currently have it strung with nylons, which are tuned a half step down to help ease some tension, and it’s absolutely gorgeous. I’d like to stick with nylon strings, and get them back to concert pitch. And in giving it the respect it deserves, I’d like to chance taking off the full size replacement bridge, and if there’s nothing nasty underneath have an original smaller pyramid style bridge made. Does anyone know any vintage instrument restoration experts around London to do this work? Cheers. Daniel
  9. The original matt guard on my 94 Ray was 3 ply, are you sure about this one? I remember the originals being white on this colour - could be wrong though.
  10. Looking good. Now that you’ve shared the link, you better jump on it! 😁
  11. Great price. Check the back of the headstock for the made in San Luis Obispo decal, if it’s not there then it’s a Jap Export model, which I think is still US parts. Pickguard looks changed, might be worth a peek at the preamp too, and check from soldering etc, to ascertain the pickup. Probably not an issue, but never know...
  12. That’s a nice pair. Grain on the burst is gorgeous. is there much tonal difference between them?
  13. Ask Scott Devine where he gets his gloves? As for the knackers, play naked like Flea, it’s cheaper then cream and easier on the groupies.
  14. Sorry if this sounds like a cliche, it’s not meant to... but as you may very well already know, basses from the same series and even same batch can really differ. So other exsmples of that model may not have the same wow factor and feeling as the one you played. It’s happened to me loads, and made me buy basses which weren’t colours I was into - which is gernally always white! Either way, great to hear you got the buzz
  15. I wonder if it's because I keep withdrawing it 🤔 🤣 Cheers 👍 Absolutely, the pictures in the direct sunlight make the choco horns seem much more extreme. Corrected - One day I’ll learn that I just can’t handle owning more than 2 basses, but in the meantime it’s been fun owning them!
  16. 6.6lbs? Yes please... very impressed. Bass face at 3.40 and Stuart Zender description at 6 mins was worth the watch too
  17. Please don’t email with bass trades - though I’d be interested in an electric guitar. Thanks.
  18. That colour looks pretty good on a 4, but it looks GREAT on a 5 🤪 Nice one!

Good point Si, if anyone is interested please PM me, i can then pass over details. Cheers

  20. Hi Frank, I owe you one mate for the Steinberger strap extension, so I’ll happily just send them over to you if you send me your address. Cheers pal
  21. Would suit a 3+1 or 2+2 headstock. 40/60/80/100, flat wound, long scale. These strings were on my Stingray Special for only a matter of days. I love Chromes, but for me that bass was better suited to rounds. Excellent condition.
