Lindy Fralin for me. Had them in my old 64 Jazz and they were delicious.

I had the 2nd and 3rd basses Modulus Graphite made come through my hands via trades. Both were FU4's and identical quality to the other 3 I've had from Modulus. This was 2 years ago, they landed in UK for just over £3k I believe. I was told an ex employee of Modulus is in the team, I can vouch that they did a great job.

Price includes postage. This pickup came in my 2015 Mike Lull PJ4 but I've now switched back to my old favourites, Lindy Fralin. I wasn't planning on letting this go but needs must and I seriously doubt I'll be straying from the vintage vibe of Fralins again. It's a great pickup and has a modern sound which is focused, tight and above all serious top quality. I'll post proper pictures in the next day or two when I get home, for now here it is in my Lull

Is that Rob Brydon on the sax? Love it when you meet great folk like that, nice one

I had a set 2 or 3 years back, I think 58 or 59 P Bass. They were good, but didn't knock my socks off. Lindy Fralin standard P Bass pickups knock my socks off in a very big way. Pricey, but worth it. Anyway, I doubt anyone will not benefit from an upgrade to a Bareknuckle if they are using a 'standard' pickup.

Sold. 1977 Fender Jazz, looking for part trades etc
Chiliwailer replied to karlfer's topic in Basses For Sale
Quote from a massively respected Fender expert who is a member here. (If the gentleman concerned sees this and would like me to remove it, I'm happy to do so. Was VERY grateful for his help!). QUOTE "It all looks legit to me. The made in USA stamp came in 1976 when the logo changed, some of the early 76xxxx serial numbers have it too (before they became S7xxxx). The gloss neck and clean hardware is so typical of that era, many folks get very suspicious with the late 70's gear because it ages so well! Looks like a lovely slapper that one" END QUOTE.
I'm cool with that thanks Karl, you didn't print the bromance bits so I reckon we're alright As for 'expert', perhaps not. But experienced and always learning, somewhat For many years I've wanted a YOB ones of these, this exact spec. If only I was one year younger and a bit richer. (Edit- I mean one year older...when was I born?) GLWTS pal. -
Spouses, do they like or hate your instruments?
Chiliwailer replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
She's never forgiven me for selling my Custom Shop Jazz Bass, Lake Placid Blue with matching headstock. Weird thing is she hated the painted head when I first got it but then grew to love it. She loves my purple sparkle Modulus, is indifferent about two others but really dislikes my Lull P Bass as it's trans blue, she finds that odd for some reason and also dislikes the headstock - fair point. I have an old Martin parlour from the late 1800's hanging in the living room, that's easily her favorite. But my getting rid of the LPB Jazz Bass affected her much more than I thought, she loved it hanging in the hallway. I gave her frist refusal and a discounted price, she refused so what more can a man do? -
Help please... Been sold a fender Precision that is apparently from 1976, headstock has been painted over and the only evidence there is from the neck? Does the following pic make any sense to anyone? Or have I been sold a dud...?
Really sorry to say that's not looking correct mate. I've never seen that style on the very many 70's Fenders I've had apart over the years. It's wrong for lots of reasons, no doubts.
Well, since that last post, I got my "one more hit!" Finally pulled the trigger on that Tony Franklin fretless (NBD thread here) so I think...at least for now...I can change my vote to "GES." (Am I in denial? Probably, but I'm glad I've scratched the itch for now...)
Nice, those basses look awesome. Enjoy the high
There are worse addictions mate, and generally GAS if done sensibly is a zero sum game
Better avoid that custom made bass cash loss kiss of death then!
I think you have the terminology wrong however Dan, GAS = Gear Addiction Syndrome
Indeed, I say I'm at GES, though once an addict always an addict so must be careful. I was playing my Stingray 5HH today, going between the 5 positions and playing various styles. I was also using a JHS Colour Box in 2 of the positions to give it an old school vibe, unbelievable how versatile this bass can be. I could honesty live a happy life with just that one if it ever came to it. Which lead me to thinking.... ...I could sell of all my basses (though perhaps not my Lull PJ4?) and ask Mike Lull to build me a P bass bodied 5 string Ray HH pickup configuration with an Aguilar preamp, maple board and sub 8lb weight.... It was a fun thought for 5 minutes and will most likely go nowhere of course. But GAS is an addiction never kicked me thinks

SOLD - Musicman Stingray 4H 3EQ Black/maple
Chiliwailer replied to TommyK's topic in Basses For Sale
Ouch, this brings back painful memories... I sold my first and most favoured Stingray in 2008 when I needed to sell off all my gear to buy a flat. I've bought and sold a huge amount of basses but the Stingray is the only one I'd want back, every year I send an email to the guy who has it now, every year he says he won't sell it! Better off with a £700 bank loan in the long run perhaps? If not, GLWTS -
Having said that, GAS has been less of a problem of late Dan, in part because I think I've now owned every single bass that was on my list. I have you to thank for most of them Chris
I hear you there, so I guess that's one reason why the fun has run out for me too?!

I only bought this pickup up two weeks ago to go in my Lull PJ4, but have since installed a Lindy Fralin P Bass pickup in the neck position and they don't match up well (though luckily the Nordstrand Dual Coil that I had before this Big Single does match up very well with the Fralin and sounds great). This one matched up beautifully with the Nordstrand NP4 P Bass pickup that was installed before, and gave me the extra trebles and bite that I was looking for. But as I've been a huge Fralin fan for a long time I seriously doubt I'll ever put the Nordstrand P Bass pickup back in again as I feel back at home again with the Fralin (in case you're wondering, the Nordstrand is a fantastic pickup for a modern and tight Precision tone). Anyway, 2 weeks old and hardly used. Bargain for replacing another soap bar pickup or replacing a Dual Coil. Bartoloni DC size - 101mm X 32.3mm From the Nordstrand site... single coil 4/5/6 string bass pickups these pickups are all about huge, full, loud, aggressive single coil tone. they use the same magnet layout as the fat stack, and the resultantly big coil is about as much single coil pickup that can be packaged in a soap-bar cover. this is the ultimate pickup for the jazz bass®-on-steroids tone purist! these pickups will fit as replacements for bartolini™ p2 (5 string) and bc (4 string) pickups. dimensions are 4.25″ by 1.25″ and 3.95″ by 1.25″ respectively. standard spacing is 19mm ctc at the bridge
I think you were right with the first one - despite all my focus being on this one particular bass, I can see myself looking further afield if/when I do finally get hold of it. I am in denial about the extent of my GAS!
Yes, the 'one more hit' sub category of GAS
-
OK...which is the closest match for "I've got pretty much all the things I want/need, except for one very specific bass, and I'm going to need to save a fair bit of money and probably wait for the exchange rates to shift in my favour before I can finally buy that one and then be happy for life*"? *"Life" may not necessarily mean "life."
Either a classic case of GAS denial or none of the above and a flaw in the poll.
GES Is never really a permanent state....
Really? You definitely make a great argument for that, but I know a lot of guys that have been set with their gear for quite some time. I suppose for them a certain need makes for a purchase rather than GAS, in it's additction and fun form that is. Anyway, that's the dream I've been chasing!

The Aria Pro IGB series had a medium scale years back, PJ configuration. These were often very lightweight and you'd have money left over for better pickups. A friend of mine who is a tech and obsessed with lightweight guitars and basses suggests headless conversions too, so if you find a bass you like and fancy getting the band saw out.... Good luck mate
