1. Having shared some emails with Chris recently I am really am gutted for him that this is up for sale, but totally understand the dilemma he's been facing. I'm even more gutted that I don't have the funds to buy it back, I never wanted to sell it in the first place but the cash was needed elsewhere. I also used to own the CS55 that Chris has pictured and is keeping, that is an incredible bass with no faults at all, but I actually bonded more with the original 57 P Bass, it is special and full of vintage history mojo. Bargain for the right BC'er hope it sells soon so I can stop pondering how to get it back
 2. Up for grabs is a passive USA made Stingray S.U.B. Bass. Most of you already know, these are the discontinued ones that Ernie Ball ended up losing money on, the quality is outrageously good for the money. These aren't made in the East like the newer Sterling SUBS. The output on this one is HUGE, it matches my active Stingray 5 and sounds exactly like a Stingray should. Loads of growl and thump, beautiful Stingray mids and highs, jumps through the mix. Honestly, you'd think it was active when plugged in as it has a great big tone. I bought this with a view to defret it, but now I'm not 100% sure if I want a fretless Stingray or Jazz, decisions decisions.... In great condition, just the odd mark on the headstock and set up great. The colour is Burgundy, it changes in the light so I've taken a few different photos. It's a gorgeous colour. Unfortunately can't post right now, so it's collection only please. £350 for a USA made killer bass... Nice Cheers. 3. Always a pleasure to deal with, on a personal level he's a top man and always good to hear from. Enjoy the strings brother

 5. Great stories up there, got a few myself. First up is a Keith Levene, met him in 1999 and we instantly clicked and saw each other regularly. About 10 months later when we started to play together I asked him which band he used to be in, when he said PiL I felt proper foolish, but he absolutely loved that I was his friend for who he was, and not what he used to be. We've been close pals ever since. In 1996 I think, a tramp looking guy came into a guitar shop I worked in, early Monday morning. He asked to play a very pricey dobro, we let him have a play and were all blown away by his playing. He humbley handed it back and said "I'll come back later with my manager". We all thought he was a rock n roll casualty, but he came back with his manager and a BBC film crew, turns out it was Peter Green getting ready for the Splinter Group. Such a lovely man, a bit odd, but a real pleasure to meet. I was once joking with another customer about capo's, he started it off and was funny as f***. When he left my mates were like "that's Mike Myers". Top bloke he was. I'll probably remember more later, 12 years in Denmark Street threw up some great celeb and muso stories.
 6. That's a stunner. I've no idea why, but out of the many pre CBS basses and guitars I've played 60-61 have always been the most special for me. I'll be YouTube'ing how to rob banks later.
 7.
Thanks for all you replies, opinions and advice guys. I am pretty keen on the MXR micro custom shop model, so I might give that a bash....unless some of you know better.... Cheers
I used to have one to balance my active and passive basses. I should have known better than to sell it, great pedal
 8.
Collection from where my friend?
I'm in Harrow, NW London / Middx. Cheers.
 9. I didn't get on with my pitch black tuner.
 10. Glad to hear the pickup height helped. There's always SD Quarter Pounders too (edit, ignore that, huge poles! ) Are your two basses the same scale length? Could it be a tension v's playing style issue? ( so same strings, different response?)
 11. Also, do you trust the tech? Brass nut badly cut perhaps? Schallers are pretty good btw, doubt it's them.
 12.
I tried a different set of the same strings as i always use the same ones, and it's the same with the new ones. I tried the pencil lead but the nut is brass, it doesn't seem to come off when I draw in the slots! When I had the neck made, I asked for hipshot USA as I had the money for those at the time, but the luthier convinced me to go with schallers and I really don't like them at all so I'm a bit gutted that I paid out for them. I would like to change them but can't afford it right now. I should have stuck to what I wanted
How's the pickup height? So many times I've seen it cause tuning issues when too high. Is the bridge in the right place for the new neck?
 13. The usual suspects are: Duff strings String windings around the tuning head either crossed over or there's too few winds Pickup too high so the magnets mess with the vibration Nut needs some pencil lead in it Tuners need tightening or the gears have slipped or worn Good luck, should be fixable with some trial and error and perhaps pro help.
 14.
At the expense of hijacking my own thread, does anyone know the demise of Sound Control story?
Story goes that Royal Bank of Scotland leant them a huge sum of money (I've heard exaggerated claims of 20 million). SC wasn't too well though, spread themselves thin and lost a lot of money from the London flagship store on Oxford Street, it bled money from day one. Then one day, as banks do, they called in the money. Game over. So I was told by a few people in the industry anyway, who knows what else was going on behind the scenes, I wouldn't want to speculate.
 15. +1 for MXR Micro Amp. The custom shop version has great tone controls, very sensitive should you need them.
 16.
That won't work. It was so long ago I barely remember schools existed.
Phew, glad you clarified that in the second sentence because my eyes popped out after I read "that won't work" !
 17.
I thought these were nitro and I would expect it to wear rather than chip/flake.
Nitro is generally a softer less durable finish, so will chip and flake much easier than poly if it takes a knock. You're right in that it will wear quicker from friction than poly, but can chip too. Nice bass to blow all your cash on
 18.
Me too. Desperately trying not to think how good my Foundation 5 would sound sporting these.
I think old ugly school teachers from your youth is the technique you may be looking for?
 19.
ill have this!
Sorry mate, had already agreed to sell it to a fella and he paid late last night so it's now sold
 20. I've had these briefly on a couple of Precisions, but I'm better suited to bright flats so they didn't stay on for very long at all. The strings have hardly been played in but the ends are frayed from coming on and off, and the bridge end shows where they have been on a regular bridge and through body bridge. Great strings though, and the lighter gauge makes for less tension. £20 including My Hermes postage.
 21.
Do you remember the guage? Is the C string also Thomastik? And will you ship to Denmark
Hi, they are the regular thomastik gauge, they only do one on flats. I'll check out postage this afternoon and PM you. The high C is also thomastik. Cheers.
