Sounds like just the sort of thing I'd be into. I've listened to some YouTube Beta vids, but of course these reviews always have some arse playing in a style that I'd never play myself, so it's hard to tell what's happening. Seems well worth a punt though, thanks.
I know what you mean, the proguitarshop review on YouTube with the Telecaster didn't really do it for me, but with the bass it's whole new thing. It feels weird buying a high tech pedal that gives a lo fi sound, but there is a depth and naturalness that I really like in this pedal, pure old school and not for the modern as its not as 'wow' as some may expect. Doubt it'll be everyone's thing, you know? Just works for me as a complete opposite to my Aguilar, really like having this Colour Box for old sounds from a modern bass. Haven't tried it through and amp yet, would need to hear it loud and proud to have a decent idea so haven't bothered. I use it through a desk and headphones mostly. Shame it's so pricey. Tried it on my Telecaster, couldn't get a tone that worked for me, not good when spending a load!

Have you spoken to Mark at Bass Direct, wonder if he knows? Mike Lull is really accessible, you can literally phone up and ask him those questions yourself, he's a really friendly guy in my experience. Paul at Mike Lull answers the emails, really nice guy but he may steer you to Mike with questions about the nature of the basses. I've had two Lull's, both incredible in totally different ways, though of course wood and pickup choice sees to that. It's taken years and a huge variety of basses, but I finally found the maker for me, no question or hesitation.
Sorry to hear that - good job that you can send it back! In the end I opted for the Funkulator as it seemed a much simpler solution. Will let you know how it performs.
Nice one, look forward to hearing how it goes, looks like a cool pedal
man i might have to give the prog EQ a try just to see what it's like. I've heard all good stuff about JHS pedals that looks really nice. Fortunately for me i'm not buying squat at the moment so have no GAS. All of my music is happening through recording and writing at the moment, so no need to spend money as i can tweak EQ's to my hearts content once recorded Glad you found the right one for you
Good idea, most people may overlook the issues I have with it. I noticed that even with the EQ off my bass tone wasn't the same, when I took the EQ out of line my tone was better. This wouldn't bother a lot of players, some may not even notice, but it's something that really bothers me, especially on electric guitar. Bear in mind I needed to use it through headphones where it is perhaps more noticeable, I didn't even bother though my amp after that
Wow, really? I must try one. What chance a sound clip..?
Sorry bud, not set up for that right now. Unfortunately I don't have a Neve at home to compare it to, though I did recorded through a 70's one years ago, the pedal tone is very old school and reminds me of what's it's supposed to be. It's very useful as I'm using one bass for a few styles so the JHS and my Aguilar do great jobs at either end of the spectrum. It's very noticeable in the mix especially. Oh, and like you say, finger performance is key to tone change!

PRICE DROP TO £1800 - no offers below please. I'd prefer to keep it than sell cheaper Fender Custom Shop Precision Bass, chocolate sunburst 1964 Relic model. Has a very full, soulful, warm and round tone as expected from this model. The quatersawn neck has great tension and it feels so smooth and played in. This one has superb relicing, lovely lacquer ageing and looks awesome from top to bottom, I can't recall seeing a more authenticly reliced sunburst P Bass. Completed on 2nd December 2014 ( certificate has Americam style dating), purchased in February 2015, Coda have one exactly the same for £2699 right now (relic version). It's in 'as new' condition, all the case candy is there, and when you open the case it smells brand new. It used to belong to a guitar player who hardly played it so it's pretty much untouched, I took this on a trade deal against a guitar but as I'm covered in the P Bass department it's up for sale. The original sales receipt can be forwarded to the potential buyer, the warranty has not been registered yet. Weighs a very comfortable and light 8.66 lbs. TRADES - I'd prefer a straight sale but please PM trade offers ONLY if you are able to come to my home in Harrow, thanks. Final update (hopefully). This is my headphone jamming set up. Pre amps, Effects, MP3, Drum Machine and Mixer. Aguilar preamp for modern tones. JHS Colour Box preamp for old school tones, Empress comp and some FX for fun. Settings are well messed up from setting it up!!!
How about the Solid Gold FX Beta? Anyone got one or given it a go?
Oh my gosh, bought this pedal today.... Old school heaven, I could review it but I'm speechless at how nice it is. It does exactly what it says on the tin 'old school Neve sounds a la Abby Road' Perfect contrast to my Aguilar Tone Hammer. Job done EDIT - not JHS as in John Hornby Skewes!!!
OK then, thanks for trying it so we didn't have to... PS: Try more things!
Any requests? It literally took me about 3 mins to dislike this EQ, gutted as it could have served a really good purpose. Maybe I'm just too particular? So folks, give it bash yourself first, then report to Mr Discreet
Cool. It's ok I didn't see that! Liked the link ref Flea's board great to see what the pro's get up to. I thought the taped control knobs was great!!
I just got my Source Audio EQ, played it for less than 3 minutes and I'm sending it back. It's DSP - digit processing. As I expected, it killed the tone of my bass, squashed it and took out the natural space in the notes. I tried it through headphones as that's how I'd mostly use it. For many players it would most likely be less noticeable through an amp, but I have a deep hatred of digital pedals ( or natural tone altering pedals) that kill the sound of a bass I love. Next.....

MXR Bass Comoressor - M87 Perfect working order. Only ever been on my pedal board, Velcro already on the back. If you'd prefer the sticky rubber feet let me know and I'll get some from another of my MXR pedals. Such a great pedal, the LED's are awesome, giving you an indication of the input and how the attack and response buttons are responding, so useful. Very flexible yet very easy to use. No box, but comes with instruction booklet. Not even a year old. ****No offers please**** Collection from Harrow. Postage is extra, depends what service you want, of course I won't make money on postage, please PM, Cheers.
I've reached this point also. 5 for me!
Think I'm joining you and Lozz there. I was originally a 4 for safety, but I can't see one reason why I'd need to change my Lull as its the perfect workhorse for me, and I'd only sell my Flea if I was skint ( looking more and more likely now, especially as I'm so into my Lull). I just sold a Jazz Bass as I can't justify so many basses these days, something has changed in the old brain and I feel better for it!

Deja Vu, I think someone else asked this last week . http://basschat.co.uk/topic/262775-zero-mod-tug-bar-for-j-basssuccess/page__fromsearch__1 If it's an original 60's bass, you may want to tread carefully as the pickguards can easily mark from the pressure of the thumb rest. So you could end up with a 60's bass that has marks in the wrong place on the pickguard.

I'll let you know how it goes, should get it by Wednesday or Thursday. Edit - ignore what I said about the Mooer pedal ( now deleted), I've looked at too many the past few days!!!
