1. Nothing Junior about that tone!!! Enjoy
 2. Having previously owned this bass I'm happy to say that it's not just a good looker, but an amazing players bass. At the same time I owned this one, I had another original '66 made in the same month and very close in serial number ( pretty sure it's May '66 iirc), the other one was battered and a real players bass, it was good but not even close to as good as this one. The tone is lovely and the neck is very comfortable, plus it's quite light weight. Blows away the often unfair myth that the mint condition ones were the bad ones so remained unplayed, not this bass for sure. GLWTS
 3.
Another option is £250 with the original EMG active PUPs. This is a steal
Surely this can't still be here by evening? Bargain beauty.
 4. That looks lovely Gary, nice one! (The natural headstock ageing is delicious )
 5.
Suppose trades are out of the question?
Hi Andy, trades may be a possibility, please PM me.
 6.
Are you they aren't supposed to be sold as a pair?
Lol! You remembered he'd likes his basses in pairs?! Though that's now grown to triplets. Don't tempt me though Warren, think what I could buy if I sold them both....
 7.
Is it E.K.O or Echo?
We called them 'echo' when I was in the trade. Or, 'you know, those cool looking Italian ones...'
 8.
Oh my oh my! I'm assuming this would be the same friend that the Pino came from? Those two look stunning mate. Thoroughly recommended seller and all round top bloke to deal with. GLWTS.
Thanks for the kind words pal Yup, this came from the same guy. He sure does have impeccable taste!
 9. The Oly White is now sold. I'll do a listing soon for the LPB And i think to myself "Do i sell the Olympic White or Lake Placid Blue?" - having just taken the white one as part of a trade deal. Really, this listing should be for the Oly White but if you fancy the LPB drop me a PM please as I may now sell both to buy another Lull P Bass . I never thought I'd sell the LPB as it's the nicest CS 1960's Jazz Bass that I've played, but this Olympic White one is a killer, I'd be more than happy to own it for sure and it is in fact just as good in its own way. (I've played a fair few average ones). The previous owner, a close friend, bought it new in October last year for £2565. He has gone full circle from P's to J's and back to P's and I have recieved it as part payment on a trade deal. This is the last of 3 CS '64 Jazz Basses he owned, this one being sold last as it was easily the nicest of the 3. It's a killer, have I said that yet? It's an Olympic White, 2013 model, 1964 Relic, comes with original case, certificate, case candy and is in great shape, only the dings that the Custom Shop provided! Currently strung with the nickel roundwound strings provided by custom shop, they are pretty much brand new as it previously had a set of Thomastiks on, as in the pics. White one weighs 9.23lbs - good weight for a Fender CS Jazz Bass. Update on the LPB, looks like I'll be selling it. It's a 2002 model, special ordered from Sam Ash Music, quarter sawn neck and brown tolex case, it's a closet classic but has some light relicing from use, hard to tell what's original and not though these days isn't it?! The back of the neck has a thin nitro coat which has worn through in a few places. The neck is very high tension, sounds awesome and with a great E string. The lacquer checking looks amazing. Blue one weights 9.13lbs. Cheers! P.s. I've paid my £20 a year subscription to sell, hope you don't mind 2 basses on one ad.
 10. Surprised to see this one still here. I've had the pleasure of playing it and it is everything you'd ever expect it to be, wonderful in absolutely every aspect and faultless. A very lucky Basschatter will be getting a killer bass from a true gentleman. Good luck with the sale Warren. Edit - after just reading Warrens OP, thought I'd chip in that this bass was owned from new by a close friend of mine for a short time, purely because he temporarily went back to Jazz Basses after a bought of good old fashioned GAS. I received it in a trade but having been well covered in the P Bass department and needing the cash I sold it on to Warren. To reiterate, this is a stunner IMHO.
 11.
I walk in your shadow Dan Pino is lovely, 55 is lovely, but 55 just suits me better. I'll kick myself over the Pino (that's a Pino and a Jaco I've let go now), but a bass has to be right for the player C
For sure, Pino's are very lovely, that was one seriously tough choice you had. I'm chuffed for you that you kept the one that suits you best, makes that kick a little lighter!
 12.
Taking Sean's advice which resonated well with that I was getting from my heart. The '55 is staying put, Pino now sold.
Clearly a man of style and taste Nice one Chris, she's such a special bass
 13. Here's a great contact for those interested, he's a friend and ex band mate, very highly recommended. http://www.online-drums.com
 14.
Dan, you and I seem to share similar tastes in basses mate (only my YOB instruments are a whole lot dearer!) C
Imagine if I did have the cash right now, I'd take your '55 and this, then probably anything you got Chris as we do seem to appreciate the same beauties. It's not often I find a decent YOB Fender given that I'm a 78'er, but this one ticks all the boxes. Can't have them all
 15. Black - check Maple - check Ash body - check YEAR OF BIRTH - check Growl and thump - check If only I wasn't skint
 16. Mark is a very good mate of mine and a top bloke who only ever buys gorgeous basses, this included for sure. Posting pics for Mark. 18.
This is without doubt one of the best basses I've owned.
Me too. I was absolutely gutted to sell this, even more gutted to see it for sale on BC when I don't have the funds to buy it back. Without a doubt this is a very special, stand out bass. Good luck with sale Chris
 19.
There's something most odd with my body chemistry.
Exactly this. Thank heavens I mostly use flats! It's all about sweat too, I knew a guitar tech who had to change his diet because by the time he's put new strings on and done some tweaking the strings weren't looking too good. I eat a really healthy diet, perhaps too much scotch, but I doubt that's what does it. Makes me think it's just my body chemistry and ive met a fair few players with the same issue. One poor guy used to 'slime' all over his basses...
 20.
Well the thread seemed dull, so I thought I'd brighten it up a bit.
blooming rosewood threads...
 21.

Wayne Rooney? Uh?
 22.
The string might not be touching the board, but the fret transfers vibration directly to the board. The softer, more flexible or porous this board material is, the greater the damping effect on the vibration. Imagine if your board was made of sponge. The frets would wobble about, taking energy away from the string, which then gets dampened by the sponge. It would have a similar effect to playing with foam mutes. Since rosewood is more 'spongey' than maple, this is exactly why it sounds darker, it's just that the difference is a lot more subtle.
Nice
 23.
I would have thought that any difference in sound between a maple and rosewood board neck would be more down to the difference in construction of the two necks then the fact that the fingerboards are different woods. IIRC Fender necks with maple boards are a single piece whilst the rosewood boards are obviously rosewood glued onto maple.
Indeed, more variables!!! Fender are mostly solid maple, with the odd maple cap reissue from CS if in they are late 60's if im not mistaken? I think of acoustic guitars and how rosewood and mahogany back and sides sound different, how cedar, mahogany and spruce tops sound different. Demonstrates to me that different woods give off different tones. Back to you with the extra variables!
 24.
When I hear that tone on a recording, I can see a maple boarded Precision in my mind's eye, seriously!
70's Pink Floyd does that to me every time!!
 25.
does anyone think there are too many variables for anyone to make a solid judgment.?
I hear you. I'd have to state that each wood has its own characteristic, though the variables create the overall tone so I competely get what you're saying. Keep the variables constant, then maple v rosewood can become more apparent. That's what we did in our tests.
