One of my guilty pleasures. Tiny Desk again to blame
-
Great. Cheers for that @The59SoundHow did you find them? There seemed to be a lot of initial excitement when people first got them, I’m curious what the lasting impression is over time Now if if anyone’s looking to get rid of some.... 😉

I didn’t know Craigslist had made it over here.

I have a combo. It is a guitar combo. It has a valve pre and power amp. It’s tiny and I like it. However it only has a single tone control, voiced for guitar so does little for bass. Where do I learn more about modifying this to make it more bass appropriate? Or valve amp circuits in general. Perhaps giving it a bass /mid/ treble instead of the single tone. I don’t know if that would even be possible. I suppose an alternative would be to use a preamp pedal but ideally I’d like everything to be in a single unit. Or any recommendations for amp techs that could this kind of work could be an option although it’s not an expensive item at the moment and I don’t particularly want to make it one. Thanks 🙂

I’m considering getting some of the JBXN pickups. I’ve had a look through various threads on here and different places online. Ive yet to find an actual measurement of the damn things though. Can anyone enlighten me. I know they are deeper than standard jazz pickups but if someone could confirm the depth that would be awesome. Thanks in advance BC Hive 🙂

Lovely. Is it played upright or...? How big or small is it?

I had something similar to this. It turned out my chrome browser needed updating.

Thanks John!

Are these active or passive MEC pickups? Been searching online but not getting much sense. The logos are worn off mine so I can’t tell if they were silver or gold logos- I used to think silver were passive and gold were active but looking on the MEC website that seems to be wrong. They do active versions of both colour I’ve just read that these had an active passive push pull - like the Pro 1? Mine doesn’t that’s for sure. It has got a handy kill switch fitted by a previous owner to the battery compartment.

Yip it’s a use once only code. Its ends at 6pm today too.

NBD. Nice little early Xmas present to myself.

Aw damn -
Yep have to agree with that exactly. Owned my redhead for over 20 years and never had a problem with it. With an extn cab it was awesome.

Was that the one in Leicester by any chance? I’m glad if it was, I was starting to twitch and I really don’t need another bass. -
If you fall on the side of preferring a higher tension TI flats probably aren’t for you. Very low tension. Obligatory IMHO.

The one that got away in 99/00 Manchester Bass Centre

LOL local urban legend. That was exactly what popped into my head when I read your first post. I went there a couple of times, the Bass Centre, not Jason’s, nothing special and the staff were pretty aloof if I recall. -
Haha yeah I’ve just found the download page. Like you say a bit confusing. The thing about the upsidedown install is, the bass I’m considering this install for has the bridge pickup mounted so close to the bridge it’s pretty useless and because of the existing mounting lugs, this pickup would be nearer the bridge. So ideally if the single coil pair was closest to the neck it would be much more useful. Thats also the reason for asking about the lead length, to see if they would be long enough if it came down to it.

That’s great Andy Thank you. Pics always a big help! Ive sent Martin an email as I have some questions. I’ll have another look on the website but I couldn’t find much about fitting or dimensions. Do either of you recall, when in single coil mode which side of the pickup coils are used? Bridge or neck side? I’ve also thought of fitting the pickup upside down for this reason

Had a look last night and mine is a 92 build. Tempted to fit black black hardware for change.

Thanks for that Mick. I’m thinking it over. Sometimes I like choice, but then I also know from (expensive) experience that too much choice makes it more difficult to find “your” happy place, and then you stick to that one setting when you do find it! Fussy buggers No problem Andy, no rush here. 👍🏻

That's cracking!

I think I got here with those intentions too. Can I suggest you stay out of the gear for sale area, i went from owning 2 basses for 20+ years to around 20 in 2 years !! .....and to the site

Ive recently come across NPR on YouTube too and spent hours trawling through their content. There is some really good stuff on there

@Andyjr1515 @TheGreek digging this thread up from the past. Sadly a lot of the pics have dropped since the upgrade. Are you getting to use it much Mick? It turned out fantastically! I was curious about the quad pickups. Do you recall how long the cables were from the pick up to switch? When in single coil mode I presume they are hum free? Which side of the pickup becomes the single coil? Thanks!

To be honest I’ve hardly played it, or any other bass in the last couple of years (life getting in the way). It’s a strange coincidence you’ve posted this thread as I’ve only recently picked a bass up and for some reason decided it would be the Pro. I literally took it out of its case last weekend for the first time this year. It’s really nothing like my Pro 1, but not in a bad way, other than a vaguely similar body shape. They’re just completely different. I like the narrow jazz width neck, I’d prefer it was wenge or bubinga but I guess maple does give a different tone to my other Warwick’s. As has been said that bridge pickup could do with being an inch further out. Has anyone tried other pickups or pre in one?
