I have a translucent black one too. I’m going to check the serial number later now I guess the Japanese built ones used German parts - hence the rear cover. I recall reading once that the German built pro2’s didn’t ever get sold as they weren’t up to standard, but there does seem to be so many stories about these.

Congrats on the new purchase. Afraid I can't help with your question. How does it sound?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've spent days reading, trying to understand t and s specs and all things driver related. I still really have no idea what these things do for tone ? Anyway going off spec cost and availability I've plumped for a Fane 8 225 from blue Aran. Should land tomorrow with free next day delivery. Hope to have an update on the transformation in the next few days.

The angle of the pic makes the pickups look off. They seem to be more of a "v" if you flip the picture. They're Lace Alumitone pickups, I've seen them on a few high end basses lately. Better output, clarity, range blah blah, the usual blurb. I don't imagine they'll be stock, more like a customer spec build. I like different looking headless basses, not too struck on that though.

Hey Dasitor and welcome.

Hi Dimarco

Just a thought. If I get a driver rated at 150-200w as most of the ones I've looked at seem to be. Do they provide their best at that sort of volume. What I mean is I'm only going to put 5/10/20 w through them. I'm not sure there's any alternative anyway but maybe someone can shed some light on it.

Thank you. I appreciate the info. I need to measure the cab as it's fairly shallow. As in the original post this is going to be used at very low volumes so it's more quality than quantity. The quality I'm after is old school too not modern hifi. I don't think those old b15's and other low output (compared to modern standards) combo's compare to the cutting edge of today's drivers.

I have an old small open backed cab which has an 8" driver. I'll be honest it's a guitar cab ?. But having read some favourable opinions on WEM combos of the 70s I'm thinking along those lines. I know they were 12s and 15s though. I don't need volume at all. This is home use only, neighbour friendly levels. I'm just looking for lovely tone. The lower volume the better really! Whats out there? What should I be looking for spec wise? What info can I provide about the cab?

My go to reply is the PJB Doublefour - 75 watts, very transparent, in a shoe box size package.

That's weird. I did reply but it's not here. It was a couple of years ago when I tried the BDI using a fresh battery. I think I tried the settings in a few positions but can't remember exactly. I need to dig it out but I think it's at another address at the moment.
-
Ooh lots of interesting options! Did I mention I hate choice i have a BDI21 and I struggle to get much from it.... I think my hearing is ok. Maybe it's too subtle? Or am I missing a trick with it? I'll have to look up these different VT pedals. I had an amp with a valve pre years ago but I don't think that got me where I want to be now. Is it output drive/ break up I need?
-
I've seen the nano heads in the past but never considered one. I'll have to check them out. Another thought was what about a guitar amp? There seems to be plenty of 5 watt versions of those around. Hmmmm
-
Yeah that's the issue I think I'm going to have. I wonder if I'm better looking at pedal.
-
Yes it'll be for use at home, purely for my own enjoyment at neighbour friendly volume levels. I don't have a budget as such. From what I've read and heard (online) a lot of valve amps sound at their best when they're pushed fairly hard at the output end. If such a thing existed to achieve that tone but at living room volume and all the way up to on stage without changing the tone I'd be happy to pay for that. Say a B15, if I could that to perform at low volumes I'd probably get one, but I'd don't think it's achievable. I'm happy to be proved wrong though! Thanks for the WEM info. I've seen a few on EBay and like you say they can be picked up at reasonable prices. How are they at low volumes?

How's the CTM15 working out ?
-
Have you checked the pickup heights on them? Could be some tweaking to do there. Are they all passive ?

I have 4 and 5 strings, fretted and fretless. Previously owned a 6 and have a hankering for another. I have for the past year equally and consistently played none

Speak for yourself Dad now, welcome Raeman

How did you come to buy the bass? Was it advertised somewhere? Wasn't it advertised as a Wal?

Is it time to replace the guard on my Precision?
Dazed replied to Bridgehouse's topic in Bass Guitars
Would it affect the value much if it was cracked? Genuine question as I don't know about these things. I guess you have to decide how concerned you are with that, if you are ever planning to sell? I get that it's all original and that is cool! Have you had it long and has it shrunk much while in your ownership? I think if it was mine I'd go for the Spitfire now and preserve the original. It could always be swapped out for special occasions Out of interest, is there any way to check the date of a pick guard ?
