  1. Post on the bass arena unofficial Warwick forum. I know a few guys have been through this process there.
  2. Just came across this on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/2413094311/permalink/10156090120594312/ Copied from the post by Joe Climan, list of basses In attached file Hi everyone, I do not post much but have, or had, I suppose, one of the larger collections of wal basses. This week, 10 of them were stolen from a storage unit they were in temporarily here in Santa Monica. I am attaching the most specific itemized list of the guitars that I have. If you see or hear of ANYTHING even closely matching this description, please let me know immediately. It goes without saying I am totally gutted mostly by the loss of such history. One of them, noted at the bottom, was among the first 10 Wals ever produced. EDIT: two serial numbers I have: 1. Tangerine orange (custom, one of a kind) mk2 - 3423 2. Mk1 with hand-tooled flower leather pick guard - JG1114 (4th wal ever produced I believe) Thank you so much.
  3. I smell GAS 😄 Personally I would buy something second hand, if it’s for use at home not something you will be relying on to gig with. The great thing about used gear is generally you can sell it on for what you paid. I got a Markbass 121 P combo in a trade a few years ago. Small, light, sounded great, flexible tonally. Ultimately overkill for my needs at home so I sold it for what it owed me. Basically a free rental for 12 + months. I knew I wouldn’t need anything to gig with. I wanted something very small light portable and sounded good. After looking around for a while i decided a Phil Jones Double4 was exactly what I needed. I was lucky and got a really good deal on one. My advice would be decide what you can realistically afford, avoid credit, define what you need from it now and then start looking. You can always trade up if you decide to take it further in future.
  4. @discreet sounds lovely on that clip. Only just had a chance to listen to it. Noisy feckers in Costa! What strings were you using and any effects on the recording? @kodiakblair at last, proper dimensions! Thank you !
  5. Welcome the ActionMike household!
  6. Hello and welcome Nobby!
  7. Thanks Mark, a glowing recommendation there. Let’s not go putting ideas in Mr E’s head just yet! Can I ask what did they replace? The thing with pickups/mods /upgrades is its often hard to see the difference, especially in isolation without a comparison between the two The bass I'm thinking of modding isn’t a jazz bass as such, it just happens to have a pair of jazz pickups, and the bridge one is stupidly close to the bridge so is very nasal and thin. I’m looking to somehow thicken it up, so a bit darker sounding without too much top.
  8. Cheers Harry. I’ve just had a listen to that vid. They sound pretty aggressive! Not sure if that’s exactly what I’m after, but for the outlay there isn’t much to lose.
  9. Gas is inexplicable and seems to defy logic. At least in my case. I would say I’m off jazz basses, at least the fender shaped variety. I have no intention of again owning a heavyweight cab or head again. I should probably add fretless basses to this list. Four is four more than I actually need, having not touched any of them for a long time. Damn I need to have a clear out!!
  10. Interesting. Thank you. Do they still sound like single coil jazz pickups? They are single coils right?
  11. One of my guilty pleasures. Tiny Desk again to blame
  12. Great. Cheers for that @The59SoundHow did you find them? There seemed to be a lot of initial excitement when people first got them, I’m curious what the lasting impression is over time Now if if anyone’s looking to get rid of some.... 😉
  13. I didn’t know Craigslist had made it over here.
  14. I have a combo. It is a guitar combo. It has a valve pre and power amp. It’s tiny and I like it. However it only has a single tone control, voiced for guitar so does little for bass. Where do I learn more about modifying this to make it more bass appropriate? Or valve amp circuits in general. Perhaps giving it a bass /mid/ treble instead of the single tone. I don’t know if that would even be possible. I suppose an alternative would be to use a preamp pedal but ideally I’d like everything to be in a single unit. Or any recommendations for amp techs that could this kind of work could be an option although it’s not an expensive item at the moment and I don’t particularly want to make it one. Thanks 🙂
  15. I’m considering getting some of the JBXN pickups. I’ve had a look through various threads on here and different places online. Ive yet to find an actual measurement of the damn things though. Can anyone enlighten me. I know they are deeper than standard jazz pickups but if someone could confirm the depth that would be awesome. Thanks in advance BC Hive 🙂
  16. Lovely. Is it played upright or...? How big or small is it?
  17. I had something similar to this. It turned out my chrome browser needed updating.
  18. Are these active or passive MEC pickups? Been searching online but not getting much sense. The logos are worn off mine so I can’t tell if they were silver or gold logos- I used to think silver were passive and gold were active but looking on the MEC website that seems to be wrong. They do active versions of both colour I’ve just read that these had an active passive push pull - like the Pro 1? Mine doesn’t that’s for sure. It has got a handy kill switch fitted by a previous owner to the battery compartment.
  19. Yip it’s a use once only code. Its ends at 6pm today too.

Yep have to agree with that exactly. Owned my redhead for over 20 years and never had a problem with it. With an extn cab it was awesome.
  21. Was that the one in Leicester by any chance? I’m glad if it was, I was starting to twitch and I really don’t need another bass.
  22. If you fall on the side of preferring a higher tension TI flats probably aren’t for you. Very low tension. Obligatory IMHO.
  23. LOL local urban legend. That was exactly what popped into my head when I read your first post. I went there a couple of times, the Bass Centre, not Jason’s, nothing special and the staff were pretty aloof if I recall.
