Amps with Compession or separate Compression pedal??
alexa3020 replied to Linus27's topic in General Discussion
Ah I see, the Spectracomp is integrated into the head on the rh series and it doesn’t look like toneprint is supported with that head. Shame, loads to play with in the TonePrint editor but if it currently does what you want it to do, then no problem anyway -
Amps with Compession or separate Compression pedal??

It’s worth checking out. There’s basically a library of pre-made settings from tc artists that you can beam to your pedal - it’s honestly super simple and no tweaking required (unless you want to). Nathan easts compressor settings are good & muscle comp was good too. You can beam the default Spectracomp settings that you’re using now back to the pedal if that’s what you prefer. if you go create your own there’s a huge amount of settings you can tweak - way more than you would see on a compressor pedal. I’ve just picked up a Spectracomp. Still getting a feel for it. Any recommendations on TonePrints? -
Amps with Compession or separate Compression pedal??

I thought the origin effects cali 76 was the top player. I was quite tempted to get the compact bass version -
Definitely shape off (pushed in) to cut through a mix - in a rock band environment anyway. I did find that you'll lose some volume if you use the onboard compressor And make sure the input gain is cranked & occasionally peaking in the red. I didn't really like barefaced 10 cabs with my ABM - I much prefer the Ashdown 15 cabs I have instead - although many would disagree I'm sure

There’s a trace Elliot ah1200 at my practice room. That thing has it’s own gravitational pull. I’d hate to drag that to any gig! Most A/B heads are fairly light though - an Abm 600 is around 12kg, handbox r400 is even lighter I think and as much power as anyone would need. If you’re driving to a gig, I don’t see it as too much of a hardship to use a class a/b head if that’s what you prefer.

I know this thread is about class d vs a/b, but does lightweight (neo) cab vs heavy cab play a part in this as well. I think it’s less of a factor personally, but interested to get everyone’s take - particularly as I’m still lugging heavier cabs around

I looked for a decent backpack for a while that would fit an ABM head, I couldn’t find anything decent for cheap, so gave up. would be useful though, it’d be an easier carry in a backpack.

Thanks for the update. Looks like their are a few other options now. The mooer prime p1 looks pretty good but I’m unsure if it supports aux in

Reviving this thread. I almost went ahead with one of these a while back, but then I found out they removed all the bass amps in the available version of the app. The app has since been updated & it looks like there’s at least one bass amp (agl) and 4 cabs. I’d be interested to get everyone’s take on whether this is good over a year later. Or is there something similar and decent available

Is there not an easy pickup mod you can do to improve the G string - levelling the poles I think
-
Big lows & sparkly top end - jumps out the mix way more than a p or j

TC Nether octaver pedal for sale. I bought this used on here January to tied me over whilst waiting for the oc5 to be delivered. I liked this pedal a lot and it did a fine job while I was using it. I would just like to make my money back on it so let me know if you’re interested. Great condition & can be posted

WRT the price, there’s a couple of things that may be playing out here. 1. Do ashdown see this as replacement for the ABM 1200? The literature states “An increasing number of players have been asking if we can bridge the dual output sections of our ABM 1200 head. The new ABM EVO V answers that need for more power and dynamics.” If so 750w doesn’t seem powerful enough 2. where are they manufactured? I’d suspect it’s currently uk. If popular enough will they move production to prc & if so will the price come down? 3. Ashdown shop is pretty damn expensive anyway. Once the amp gets to the suppliers will the price decrease? can anyone remember the price when Abm 600 evo iv was released?

I see, probably safe to assume the extra dials are for a second drive section then!

Nate Mendel? I see the ff logo in the background

They also posted this image yesterday Ashdown enigma?

I have mixed feelings: it’s pretty expensive at the moment although I’d expect the price to drop once the product matures. On the front end everything looks identical to the evo iv apart from the extra vu I may be on my own here but I liked the blue panel (must be getting old - don’t like change!). The proof will be in the performance though 750w of class a/b power - should be monstrous! I’m sure the more technically minded will pick out some other things! I don’t think there’s enough for me to change from Abm 600 evo iv though - but let’s wait for the reviews and see!
