1. That's the back end of a Sound City 200 flashing GEC KT88s. I have two of those and a good ol' Hiwatt 200 on the go, if it matters.
2. Very efficient cab, with the hypersensitive EV drivers. Surprisingly balanced. 20w kicks it ito life. 100w gives solid bottom end - even digital watts will shift air with this. I had a Big Block 750 pushing mine. Oh, yeah!
3.
I am interested in one of the 15" combos. I can lay my hands on about £300 now and could scrape together more given time. I had better come clean and admit I don't really know what they are worth - this will be my first proper amp and I am going on recommendations rather than personal experience. Can we work something out?
Aye. The 1x15s I have are the second black painted ply cab style - with the port divide at the bottom - the one you can lift on your own. The box is pretty much the same as a Marshall angle cab. The sound is uniquely Trace. The reflex design really throws the lows. They are rated at 150w and will DI. I can do one for £300 and a wee bit carriage, which makes them insanely good value. I don't know why they aren't £500 - they just aren't. Yet? Anything you want to know, just PM.
4. The 2103X cabs were around £800 new. Killer studio cab, as you don't get any piezo fizz. Rich stabby plucks instead of static-edgy poinking.
5.
Have a bump on me. I can feel my trouser legs flapping just looking at that rig! I've always fancied the Trace cabs to go with my AH200 Series 6 head but never got round to it.
This has to be your best chance. The 1x15 is an easy £150 (though a driver upgrade wouldn't hurt) The 2103X is an honest £250 (kinduva specialist top cab, but born to sit where it is) The head is worth £350 to anyone who has ever heard what they can do If I wasn't sitting with the same rig... ...or it was 500 miles closer ... ...
6. Ogri - a fav! Heads: AH150 MkV £225 Best one I've had, HUGE bottom end, best small head of all time AH250 MkV £350 Very clean, UV working, tonal powerhouse AH250SMX (out on appro) £425 Spanky fresh condition, valve pre AH350X £350 Clean, UV working, Biamp capable, I can do the matching biamp cabs AH500X £350 Minor cosmetic bits, Biamp capable, 2 x AH250 in one box, ultimate tour kit Also some combos...
7. Classic 'from the old days' 220w SWR head. Valve pre. Kicks whatever you want kicked. £250 + carr = £275 delivered.
8. An Egypt Nofretiti! They were £750 in the '80s.
9. So - you want a cab for an Impact head? Don't get hung about 4ohms - it will put out the same wattage into 16 or 8 as long as it is set to that impedence. For bass, it will have clean headroom up to about 60w RMS output. What you need is max efficiency. How 'bout a '70s Fender 'silver face' 2x15? Max paper moving and jsut right for your wattage.
10.
What 4 ohm cabs have you got mate? Can you post?
I can post - no problem. Now.... Trace did 8ohm cabs almost exclusively so that you could add cabs, not watts, to increase volume. ...but... I can do one of the five 18+15+12 cabs they made back in the olden days. If you can lift it @ 110kg. Sure sounds good! I can also reload the trusty upright format 2x15 cab with 8ohm drivers to run @ 4ohm. Kille stage presence and lovely, singing tone - and not a stupid lift. What wattage would you want? What head are you using?
11. CAn't beat £200, sorry. Can beat £300, though....
12. Why not put a compact Trace 15 cab under it and get the full 280w?
13. Sound Control sold Robins for a year or so. No brand marketing support, so didn't take off.
14. Great amp, good price. You should try it with a decent set of pre valves before giving up on it, though.
15. Yeah, well... One tends to interpret the words according to wish, not reality... ...and BC has strong cred... I should have waited for pics from a newbie - will do from now on. But it was a snip if stroiaght - didn't even try to work on the "ono" bit of the price. But hey! The cab is strcturally sound and an EV 12L is worth £75-100. So cost is what, £100 + courier = £125? And it sits nicely under my Mk5 AH150. I guess I could haggle for £25-30 off, but I don't expect a guy who would do that listing would "get it". Maybe doing him a disservice? Screw it - life's too short. I'll get over it. I've done worse... ...many times... ...many... ..choke...
16. BOUGHT A PETERSON CAB [WITHOUT PICS] FROM THIS NEWBIE. Description was mahogany beauty in good condition. Well, it arrived.... Old crap black paint job. Ports full of spider webs and dust. Grill not torn, but logo plate not stuck on. So I guess the condition rating goes: Mint, Near Mint, Excellent, Very Fine, Fine, Very Good, Good, Poor Speaker seems OK, though haven't pushed it. Shoulda waited for pics - but been looking for an extension to put under the combo, so pounced. Not stage worthy as-is, but maybe a good sand a repaint will help...?
17. I stuck this here becasue feedback is for folk checking folk, and I thought the others who had perused the listing would feel beetter knowing that they didn't miss out on a cherry. Newbie lister... name different from name on bank account paid to. Probably never hear from him on BC again? ...first anything not parfait on BC... ...still the best forum going... Found the branding strip - bad glue/tape job, so fell off in transit - glad I checked the bin bag 'packaging'. When i'm done with the cab, it will look smart and play right - but wishing I didn't ned to throw the hours at it. ANd it will sound fabbo over/under the 1x15 combo. Och, weel.
18. Well, it arrived. Old crap black paint job - not mentioned in the description.... Ports full of spider webs and dust. Grill not torn, but no Logo plate nor "EV Loaded" plate.
19. Yet more - First Mk5/Ser6 era AH250SMX head, 210H cab, 1x15 cab (another compact = 3)
20. Yet more - First Mk5/Ser6 era AH250SMX head, 210H cab, 1x15 cab (another compact = 3)
21. Great piece - and supercheap - not much more than the worth of the driver.
