Sold to a man frae Glesga.... Here is an early ('81?) Aria through-neck single humbucker bass from the RB series. It has a couple of tiny dinks in the finish, but scores 9/10 overall for an early '80s classic. Has the original case, nicely stickered up with retailer, Aria, Marshall and Dire Straits tour memories. The handle is taped over, but the plastic grip is still in there. The transluscent gold finish is AMAZING and probably the least-seen of the options. This is not the honey colour - this is gold. But not crude and tacky looking like a gold top guitar. The photos make it look a wee bit more bronze than the akshul gold. The wood grain shows through nicely. The bass is all professionally set up and happening. +++includes original warranty card and hang tag in its little cellophane packet+++ The fretless red one with no case went on ebay last week for £321+ carr so I thought £375 + carr would be good for this, considering it has its case and such... Whaddaya reckon? [attachment=5622:SBR60Front.jpg] [attachment=5623:SBR60Back.jpg] [attachment=5624:SBR60Case.jpg] [attachment=5625:SBR60CaseOpen.jpg]

The Sibs cab is a great deal! Smooth adn dark tonality adn "only" 200w hadnling, but it has a fat sound that carries.
-
£325 is fair. Voiced for Celestions, and intended to go through a 4x12, so cab will have a big impact on tone/response.

In case it helps... I have the Road Ready version - and it does everything except walk itself down the aisle.... Had it out to try an SVT200T head - scary scary big and low. The LF made my pal's cat throw up. [attachment=5454:SVT200T.jpg] And yours is a very clean example. Clearly, this season's MUST HAVE item..! -

SWAP- my trace rig for an ampeg combo?
Thornybank replied to mr.sibs's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Amazing price for the old 200w painted box. Rich, creamy tone from ply construction compared to boxy brwarp from mdf. A lick of the right paint and it will look fabberoo. With one of the wee side handle AH150 heads on it it will deliver most excellent tonality. Cheap just for the old Celestions. Bargain++ -
All of the big Trace valve heads have their amazing side and their quirks - each is distinctive. £600-650 for a V6 seems right to me. I was/am looking for £1k for a V6 and cab (4x12 or 2x15). Worth it? Heck, yeah! If you heard a note "blind" and didn't know what it was, you'd guess any boutique number, I reckon. Cautionary tale of shipping fun that argues for personal collection... My last V6 purchase wasn't packed very well and got dropped, so I was out a full revalve of KT88s. Looked OK, but 5 dead out of 6. Luckily, I had a spare octet for my V8, so I wasn't right out of pocket. Still, have to add £150 value more onto the price. Owch! But - dig this - the amp was working (albeit over the top drivey sounding) on a single valve! The poor valve - taking the full 725 plate volts all on its ownsome... If you are sending yours off - take the power valves out and wrap 'n pack them separately. Also, put many wraps around the whole thing - it should be bouncy, not breaky. A corner landing will crack a casing and the inertia of a big transformer usually distorts the chassis (leaning tower time...) If there is a claim you never want to be accused of under-packing. Also, I put a weight notice on the boxes of these biggies. These aren't high demand pieces - who ever gets to see/hear one to know what they are? So, expect a couple of goes on eBay to find the right person who has the pennies together at the time of the listing. The good thing about the forum is that there can be the chance to have a good dialogue and agree to hold until savings are gathered up. But £650 delivered? For a V6 that is checked over and happening? 370 watts of solid KT88 tones? Fair dos. Yea, unto a snip!

Hi These are the best I can do with my meager telephonic technology. Pretty poor with tiny ser no type, but you know the number.... All the hardware is shiny - the finish issues are Fender polyester things, not abuse - though the back of the neck thing looks like it took a dunt in its past. Fender, though, so it didn't actually dent the wood or anything "structural". [attachment=4685:07_01_08_1030.jpg] [attachment=4686:07_01_08_1035.jpg] [attachment=4687:07_01_08_1037.jpg]

Ho It is aye in Scotland. has had it just a matter of weeks. He sells top end hifi and plays guitar, so I am guessing it came in trade from a bass playing hifi nut = could have come from anywhere. Serial is S889056. Doing the shot involves some hassle with phones and the computer (USB challenged) but can do it for a potential buyer.... ...izzat u? Cheers

Unbranded Schallers it is.... Dating Fenders. Not a science, izzit? The serial is S88xxxx. The first 8 is not bold, but the same weight of type as the rest of the serial. Could be any time from 77-79, I guess. Given it doesn't weigh more than 20st it could be earlier, so the logic on tuners would fit....
-
The tuners are right - they "transitioned" around then. My fretless '77 has Fender tuners, so they raised the question for me and I checked that. If you care what it looks like, or if you are buying to sell on, then it needs a low price. If you are buying to play, then its a peach. It would pretty up, if you can be bothered. The trick as I see it is that you can't tell what she's like in bed from a forum listing.... This one rings just swell. How much is the '76 from Thunderthumbs? Might be a good reference....

More detail photos. Hope these help. Apologies on behalf of Motorola for kwalitee. Ref. comments on values - two years ago - up here, anyway - PBasses were a snooze - it was all Rics. This would have been a £500 shop price sleeper. Just now, the West of Scotland is big on "Precisions with attitude" so shop on this one tidied - not fully refinned - would be £750+. It might not be everyone's first choice, but someone would go nuts for its shock treatment history.... The scariest looking bit is the finish crack at the back of the neck - looks like a wood split - but is not. None of the neck edge wear "feels" when playing. Looking forward to a test drive, but... ...I get nervous above 300 watts or so... (It is about stable supply of 700+ plate volts... ...and quality of valves available... ...and the pain of warranty issues/repair logistics on new designs. Currently, EBS just throw the broken bit away and give you an all new pre or power section - but they won't be able to afford that with valve stuff, will they?) I had a couple of Hiwatt 400s. They were insane enuff - and at the limit safe performance from "traditional" design. Still have one of those Marshall 375w '80s nightmares somewhere. My Trace V6s put out about 340w and the V8 does a steady 400 peak. My Hiwatt 200s are ample for most "real life" stuff. It all comes down to pre and power headroom. How much is enough depends on your playing style/dynamic range. (Hence the joys of a 2-channel amp allowing switch between different settings for finger and slap.) Volume can come from efficient/more speakers. Doubling your cabs makes more difference than doubling your output power. Still, it may sound a-m-a-z-i-n-g...?!?!?

Hi, all. Many and various pics are now in the phone and all ready to download. Cheers for the methodology statement from Jase. The wee man has decided to initiate a 3Gig games download today and I am USB port challenged - would have to disconnect to upload from camera. Will get 'em up as soon as can.... Chris

Friend is selling his 78 Precision (Serial S88xxxx). Sunburst, not too heavy - but... cosmetic issues. The usual late 70s finish stuff was his cue to get out the wire wool and start a home relic job. Pity, really, but nothing too huge. My tech reckons a few hours with finer stuff would give a clean look. There is a patch of gone finish at one spot on the back of the neck behind the first fret. Looks funky now, but manageable with many careful applications of superglue over a few of weeks. So.... he has his feet on the ground about this. I reckon all tidied and sorted it would be a shop price £799 bass giving him £675 after commission. But needs all that care. £575 caseless? I expect there to be copious demand for photos. I can email to PMs, but I am dogged if I can figure out how to post them up here.... ...any clues?

Or stick a Trace V6 in front of your guitar player and you can both fight over it. Plenty of tone control to allow solid guitar sounds. Or take both - yours with the 2x15 and his (hers?) through the 4x12. You simply cannot get that much sound/tone/presence/weight out of anything else at £1k per rig. Whew! And you get to drive the drummer NUTS!
