We use a 24 track desk in the rehearsal studio and I just take a monitor mix from that. -
In Ear Monitors - what to do?
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in Accessories and Misc
Hey man, no probs. Well the T2's were not great, I had a problem getting a decent seal with them and so the bass was a little lacking. I also found that dual drivers didn't produce anywhere near enough bass for me. In truth the standard buds that came with the IEM system had better bass so I used them more. Anyway I went back to ACS and they looked at the fit and decided to do new impressions and also offer me a free upgrade to the T1 triple driver monitors free of charge as that is what the MD felt that all bass players should be using as they produce the best bottom end. Again I can't fault their customer service - simply outstanding. They are due to arrive tomorrow so I let you know what they sound like again!!! -
Can't agree more with the comment about triple drivers - I am expecting delivery tomorrow of my ACS T1's having found both their T2's and T15's very lacking on the bass front. My drummer uses standard Shure buds and says they are better than any other monitors he has had in the past! Fingers crossed that the T1's do all that thy should.

Akai Deep Impact problem - help!!
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in Repairs and Technical
Just tried it with the jazz and exactly the same. It makes all the right sounds but just seems that the output level is about half of what it should be. The input looks fine and the triggering sounds good too. Ref the switch cleaner where would you squirt it? Just seen a thread on Talk Bass saying that a company called Panic Music repair them.
Hmm wouldn't be the battery on the ray would it? Might not be dead, but dying?
-
Akai Deep Impact problem - help!!
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in Repairs and Technical
Only tried with the Stingray 5 today but it was fine with that before so would be surprised. Last Saturday night it was fine with the jazz and hadn't used it since then. Really worried that it is going to be shafted!!
I've never looked inside the mutrons - the deep impacts just pain because of the Micro processor. Does it behave the same way with another bass (passive/active etc)?
-
Akai Deep Impact problem - help!!
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in Repairs and Technical
Yep - I took it off the board and tried it in isolation so that I could check everything and nothing makes any difference. Surely if they can fix old Mu-Tron III's they can fix a DI? -
Just doing some re-wiring of my board this morning and found out that my Deep Impact has a problem. When you click it on it is like it is running at half volume. You have to have the input level on full and the same for the output level to hear anything at all which is not right. Anyone experienced this before and got any ideas what the problem could be? If not can anyone suggest someone who could have a look at it and knows a bit about repairing older pedals?

I have recently been down this route but with another well known manufacturer. It is has not been a smooth ride but I would give the following advice: Get your impressions taken by a pro - doing it yourself is going to present all sorts of problems if you don't get the fit 100% right. I had mine taken by the company who make them and even the the seal was not quite right what happens then is you get nowhere near the amount of bass that you will want. I had to go back and get them done again by the MD this time. Secondly I would only opt for a minimum of 3 drivers, I have had a single and 2 driver so far and both really lacked enough bottom end to give me what I needed. Thirdly, I believe that Alien Ears are acrylic moulds and I hear that they are nowhere near as comfortable as silicone which heats up to body temperature and moves better especially if you sing at all. Interested to know how you get on.

'classic' stingray vs stingray - are they worth it?
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to zero9's topic in Bass Guitars
Manged to take some pics today of the pre EB neck/headstock and the Classic so that you can see what you get in terms of "better woodwork". I think the Classics do look really good. -

FS/FT Sadowsky Outboard Preamp/DI Box
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to White Cloud's topic in Effects For Sale
Did you have it on all the time or just for certain tunes with the Stingray and the jazz?
These are great for active instruments as well. I used to swear by mine when used with a Stingray and and active 5 string jazz bass with an East preamp. Gives an extra "width" to the tone of any instrument, and as you say, great with passive basses too.
-
'classic' stingray vs stingray - are they worth it?
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to zero9's topic in Bass Guitars
I have a pre EB and a Classic 5 and would say that they are very different beasts. I found the stock pre-amp in the Classic a bit lacking and changed it for an East 3 band and that made a world of difference. The Classic is a great bass and on mine the figuring in the neck and fingerboard makes it a great thing to look at - really pretty. -
Not yet but interested to hear what they are like though.

Gigged IEM's for the first time last night...
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to Walker's topic in Accessories and Misc
I am a convert to IEM's too, make things so much better live. How do you get a signal into the desk and also into your monitor mixer?
I played my first gig with IEM's last night. Total convert. It was odd for about 5 minutes, then my life changed! I could hear everything everyone else was playing and singing with clarity (except the drummer whom is not mic'd, but I remedied that by quickly throwing a spare mic under his kick and plugged it into my Rolls unit). I can honestly say I played my best gig ever - I was note perfect, well almost I could hear every detail of my playing, just like when practicing at home - it was an absolute bloody revelation We were at close quarters with a very noisy, up-for-it, dancing crowd, so for our last number (hands in the air, crowd singing, etc), I pulled my IEM's out of my ears, bloody hell it was loud! And I couldn't hear my bass. Straight back in. We normally use Yammy powered wedges (the rest of the guys still do), but trying in-ears really has made a helluva difference. For those interested, its a wired setup: Westone UM1's, a Rolls PM351, with a mix from desk, another line from my amp and a Shure SM58 thrown under the drum kit!
-

FS: Boss LS-2 loop/line selector pedal - SOLD!!!
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in Effects For Sale
That is right. But they have so many different modes that you can do a lot more than that if you need to! In my set up I use it to turn on multiple effects to once for different sounds that I need without the tap dancing! It is is also pretty cool that if you turn off all the effects in loop A and have say an envelope filter in Loop B and switch it to A/B mix mode then you can dial in a dry signal from Loop A and keep plenty of bottom end. I am no expert on loops by any means but took some good advice from here and found this pedal worked well for what I needed. Hope that helps?
Am I right in thinking that you can use this to mix 2 loops of effects and then blend them to create a signal out to your amp?
-
Up for sale is my Boss LS-2 pedal which is in good condition and come in its original box. Great multi functional pedal with loads of cool uses. If your not sure what these do then ask Shep (Panthersirsoft on here) he switched me on to the joys of looping! Can take some pics if you need them. Looking for £55 delivered.

John Deacon's amp rig? Do we know anything?
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
I admire him for getting out as without Freddie there was no Queen anymore. Much as I loved Queen I wish that Brian May and Roger Taylor would just bugger off now!
He retired Google says his Stingray is in the hard rock cafe in Ohio , Want!
-
John Deacon's amp rig? Do we know anything?
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
I bought that record from a record shop in Newton Abott in Devon while we were down there for a month on holiday. I remember the pain of having wait a month to get home and play it but loved looking at all those pics in the gatefold. Loved Queen then and still do now.
If you're old enough to have bought Live Killers from 1979 in Gatefold sleeve LP form at then there is a pic of JD using a maple fretless precision and the reason I've lusted after one for years. But what I meant in my earlier post is that we're probably hearing the Precision through the DI into the desk, completely bypassing whatever amps were on stage unless one or some of the cabs were mic'd up
-
Been checking this out with New Moon today and they advise the following: Me: Can you remind me if the guitars and other gear would be covered if left in a rehearsal room for a week at a time and also if set up and left at a venue for a few hours? Them: As long as the rehearsal room was locked then no problem. With regards to being left at a venue, if the event organisers advise you to leave them set up then yes, if left otherwise unattended then the room needs to be locked Me: Does that mean that if the event organisers requested them to be left then they would be liable and you would not pay out if anything was stolen? Them: No –not at all. We would pay for the claim, as long as it was at the venues direction to be left where they are (i.e. on stage, green room, storage room etc) Hope that helps the discussion a little chaps!!
The last time I looked at specialist musical instrument insurance this seem to be the case. Even in our rehearsal space which was on the 3rd floor with 4 heavy duty locked doors between it and the street, the gear wasn't covered because we didn't have bars on the window!
