1. Have to do The Gallery! Great gear, great guys and great prices if you know what you are looking for. My wife "enjoyed" half a day in The Gallery whilst I tried every amp and cab combination in the shop before settling on my current set up! Mark
glad i am not the only one to that did that .my wife was in fits at the bass centre site ,and the gallery saga was the icing on the cake . weird sense of humour women have so next visit to london ,the gallery is top of the list
2. Might be sensible to try the GB with the Aguilar before I make the change then!! Thanks for your thoughts guys. Mark
+1 I tried the AG500 at the same time I bought the DB750 and it was a very close call, other than on price and weight!! I use a GBIV through my DB750 for nearly every gig and can vouch for the fact that GB and Aguilar do sound great together, if that's any help to you. However, I'm not really into this thing of certain basses sounding better with certain amps. It's all down to personal taste, string choice and EQ settings at the end of the day. And, as someone else has already said, it's your rig so go with whatever you like! Good luck!
3. As a fellow Warwick owner I would like to see you get £750 for this bass but sadly do not think that that is likely. I tried shifting my 1991 Thumb 4 string NT recently and only got up to £700 on the 'bay. Just could not let it go for that low. I would second the comment that if you can hold on to it for a while then I would as Warwick's are sure to come back into fashion again at some point. Once upon a time they used to be THE bass to have! Mark
That's a good point Kev. I paid about £800 for it including shipping etc. Not interested in trying to make a profit. I'd ideally like say £750 for it.
4. Guys, Interesting to hear different opinions on this topic! I am using a 2x10 Epifani cab and the music that I play is jazz/funk so I like quite a tight finger style sound with lots of mid and bottom end and also have quite a few tunes with slap bass in it so that is why I like the zing of the EBS and GB basses. Last time I was at Bernie's we even put the KSD 5 string through the EBS 2x10 combo and that sounded great for a sub £750 bass! The advice that I seem to hear repeated is that your bass sound is only as good as your weakest link and I am not sure that the Aguilar can be classed as the weakest link at all as it is a cracking amp. It may just be that the EBS suits the sound that I am after more!
+1 Kev. To be honest, GB works wells with EBS - it's a well proven setup. I would like to know the criteria on which "Epifani cab are worlds better than the EBS ones". Nobody has mentioned speaker sizes, style of music or anything. It's all about getting what you like and what is appropriate for what you do.
5. Not tried an Epfiani amp yet. You don't rate EBS amps then? Mark
Keep the Epifani cabs, they're worlds better than the EBS ones, and sell the Aguilar and buy an Epifani head, there was a used one for sale here a week or two ago.
6. Hi, No doubt that it does sound good but the EBS head just has a certain "brightness" than I think other amps struggle to achieve. I have a Rumour bass that should be ready in Nov and just thinking that EBS, GB Rumour and Epifani cab may make a great combination! Mark
IMO Keep the Aguilar. Aggie + Epifani sounds very nice to me.
7. Seriously thinking about changing my Aguilar amphead for an EBS HD350. Interested in a swap if a fellow BC'er has one and wants to do a deal. If not I may sell if I can get the EBS amp for not much more money - funds are tight at the moment! Would also welcome thoughts from other members as to if I should make this change at all? I love my Epifani cabs and will not change them for EBS but last time I was down at Bernie's I have to admit that the EBS stuff sounded awesome! Cheers Mark
 8. Have you tried the NGM complex at Thornbury? Their link is below: www.ngm.org.uk We used to rehearse there and they have an amazing studio. Mark
 9. Hi, Which model tuner is this? Thanks Mark
 10. Had a chat with him afterwards and to top it all he is also one of the nicest blokes that you could meet - Typical!
Roger is a fantastic player, really lovely feel. He is also a very good upright player.
11. Looks like she stays as is then!
No mods on mine at all, stock MEC pups, original 2-band MEC circuit. I wouldn't want to mess with the sound. I agree with the other comments about pre-'92 Thumbs. They are the best basses Warwick ever made - these are the basses that made their reputation after all - and I'll never shift mine. Except maybe to replace it with a 5 from the same year.
12. + 1 on that. The EBS pre-amp alone is £150 fitted. That £480 price would be the conversion from US $ but then you would have to pay over 20% on top of that in customs and import duty. This is a great bass.
If you speak to Bernie Goodfellow who is the UK Distributor for these bases, he sells them new for around £700. With upgraded pre, you are looking at £700 or more.
13. Marlborough Jazz Festival was on last weekend and after we played I went and checked out some other bands and there were some really good ones. Highlight of the day was a band called Protect The Beat. My understanding is that these guys are all top session musicians and boy could they play! Their music is instrumental jazz/funk and it really grooves. The bassist on Saturday was Roger Inniss but I think he was a dep. Played Shuker basses and was awesome. If you get a chance - go and see them play. I guarantee you wont be disappointed.
 14. Hi Guys, I have a 6 piece instrumental jazz/funk band and people tell us that we have a really tight and professional sound. The problem is that we are struggling to get good gigs. Any one have any booking agents or managers that can get work in the south west? Happy to play corporate stuff and regular gigs. Thanks Mark
 15. LOL - nice one!!!!
You're worried? My band is called "The Watermelon Men"
16. Guys, Thanks for your comments I really appreciate them. Seems a shame that us bass players appear to be so brand fickle!! Just out of interest - have you guys changed the pre-amp on your Thumb's at all? Mine is totally original but I wonder if I kept it if there is any benefit in upgrading the electrics etc? Mark
+1 on Finn's comment. I believe that everyone should have a pre 92 Thumb NT in their bass wardrobe. The neck is so wonderful I could eat it. Growls like a Grizzly and made like a real Mercedes. In fact the parallel with Mercedes abounds in that early Mercs were built to a standard that modern ones can't compete with. This is an opportunity that only those in the know truly appreciate. Forget more modern Warwicks IMO, this is the real deal. So bump!! Peter
17. God I am worried now!!! My band plays two of those in our set - Mercy,Mercy,Mercy and Watermelon Man. Mind you the Mercy is done in the Morrissey Mullen style ie very quick and with some rip roaring keys and sax solos and Watermelon Man is done in the Headhunters style which has a real groove and a dirty funk bass sound courtesy of my EBS Bass IQ!!! If they were in the standard jazz style then yes I think they might be classed as PAP. What about Nature Boy?
Prompted by responses to the guy who is gooing to play jazz at the Jazz Cafe..... Some jazz standards are just sickeningly over played and almost always suck. OK, I accept that it is still possible to do something creative with them if you are Iain Ballamy but, in the main, these 'evergreens' keep appearing at jam sessions etc being played badly by people that can't play. I have heard (and played) them all a million times but now refuse to play them (really, I do). Its the jazz equivalent of 'James Galway plays The Beatles'. So I am starting a campaign to have them banned. The offending tunes are: Fever Mercy, Mercy, Mercy Canteloupe Island Watermelon Man Summertime Mac The Knife Tenor Madness Please feel free to add any jazz standards you consider banal, boring or just bad. I get the last say
18. Am I to assume that no-one on this forum is interested in this bass at £750. Tell me guys do you all think that this is expensive? Sure as hell seems a more than fair price to me for a hand built bass with a thru neck! Perhaps cash is just tight at the moment? Some feedback on this would be great! Mark
Guys, Had this on Ebay and been offered £700 for her - if any of you guys would like her then the first one to offer £750 can have her as it saves me the Ebay fees if I sell her through the forum. Also feel happier that one of you guys will appreciate the bargain more than an Ebay bod!! You all know that this is an absolute bargain. Pains me to sell at this kind of price but market forces obviously dictate. PM me if you are interested and she can be yours. Cheers Mark
20. Weekend BUMP!
Thanks - sorry about that. Monday morning and all!!! Mark
21. Just got an EBS Multi Comp and would strongly recommend it - excellent compressor. Mark
So, we got three there - BOSS CS-1, MXR Dynacomp and Line6 Vetta.. Which one do ya prefer, guys? I'm looking after a bit of compression, but dunno what's really worth choosing, so, waitin' for opinions..
22. Thanks - sorry about that. Monday morning and all!!! Mark
I moved it earlier, sorry for any confusion!
23. Sorry - does anyone know how to move it??!!!! Mark
wrong forum buddy
24. Come on guys this is a fantastic bass - as I have said I will look at offers on this one. Cheers Mark
Weekend BUMP - May have to consider offers on this one! PM me if interested. Mark
25. Not getting on too well with this pedal - there is nothing wrong with it and you can get some really funky 70's sounds from it but I have realised that the sound that I really want I can already get from my EBS pedal so this one is just not going to get used! It is a great sounding pedal and if you look at the comments on this forum you will see that it is about as close as you can get to a Mutron III without having to shell out £300 +!!! Looking for £80 for the pedal - it is in perfect condition. Cheers Mark
