1. Weekend BUMP - May have to consider offers on this one! PM me if interested. Mark
 2. £2k - I would be dead chuffed to sell at that price! Yes still dreaming about that amount! Mark
I've got one of these too, same year. Guy who did some work on the frets for me recently was so impressed he was asking how much they went for now. "About two grand?" was his estimate. Actually I don't think I'd take two grand for mine.
3. Never a more true word said my friend! Thanks Mark
I know I'm biased but these older Thumbs really are stunning basses. Great wood and superb build quality and they really growl! I particularly like the figuring on that body. All the best with the sale. Peter
4. Looking to move on my Warwick Thumb bass after 15 happy years together! Have to sell to fund my new custom built bass and will be very sorry to see her go as she has been a trusty and reliable bass for a long.long time. There are some signs of wear on the bass but nothing out of the ordinary for a guitar that is 17 years old. There is some "thumb rash" above the bridge pick up and a couple of scratches around the jack socket and cut away to the neck. However I repeat that these are minor and cannot be seen unless you look really, really close! Please note that as I am funding a new bass I am not open to any trades for this one. If you want more info or pics then please PM me. Oh yes price!! Looking for around £1k which I think is a fair price. Not going to give her away! Thanks Mark
 5. Higgie, Nice one. That sound for Deeper Underground is spot on - awesome! How much does the P&C cost? Cheers Mark
Hi mate, a pedal I had cool results from - especially for the Zender stuff - is the Crowther Prunes and Custard. Here's a sample I recorded a while ago running it through the AF-9 to try and cop the "Sir Psycho" tone: Sir Psycho Sexy And here's one with the P+C by itself, trying to emulate the synth tone on Deeper Underground by Jamiroquai: Deeper Underground As to the EBS vs the Mutron, I've only played with the EBS briefly, but it does have some rather cool filter sounds. It's a different beast to the Mutron though. The Mutron is the classic old school funky filter. I wouldn't use anything else now!
6. Higgie, Not being in to fuzz much can you recommend a pedal that may give that sound? I am guessing some sort of overdrive or similar? I took on board your point about the AF9 and the Mutron from a post you made before so really want to try and get the best from this pedal! How do you rate the EBS Bass IQ against the Mu-tron? Mark
Well you definitely won't be getting the Sir Psycho Sexy sound without running some kind of dirt into the filter. The same goes for the Zender stuff. As a stand alone filter I absolutely love the AF-9. If I didn't have a Mutron III it would be the AF-9 sitting on my board. Try running some kind of fuzz into it!
7. Just bought a Maxon AF9 after looking out for one for a while. I understood that this is the closest thing that you can get to Mu-Tron III without having to shell out £300 +!!!! Anyway after excitedly setting it up I have to say that I have been rather disappointed with it's performance. I am trying to get the Stuart Zender on ROTSC album sound or Flea squelchy sound from Sir Psycho Sexy and do not seem to be getting either. If anyone has one of these and can give some advice on the settings required to achieve these sounds then it would be much appreciated. At the moment the EBS Bass IQ is sounding 10 times better and looks like it will be the one envelope filter that ends up staying on my board. Thanks Mark
 8. Hi Guys, I use this guy on the web and he is brilliant, great prices and I guarantee you that his delivery is unbelievably quick! I would recommend him to you all. 9. Had a few offers through which is great - still keen to hear from someone with a Musicman 5 or 5 a string jazz bass who wants a trade for this beautiful 4 string Warwick! Cheers Mark
PM'd
10. PM'd
Would you consider a trade for a Sandberg California custom 5 http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=sandberg please look at the link for images
11. PM'd
Hey man consider a swap for my iceni? Its on the board...ultra rare!
12. Don't think so - I can only just cope with 4 strings let alone 6!! That is the guitar players domain only! Cheers Mark
Would you be interested in a Vigier Passion 6 String?
13. Wow that You Tube clip is awesome - thanks for sharing it with us! Shame I missed them on Sky - you do get some great gigs on the more obscure channels at times. Nice onw. Mark
 14. Now that 3 of my 4 basses have been sold I am left with one that I need keep until my new bass arrives in a few months time. I am thinking that I would like to get hold of a 5 string to go with the new 4 string so wanted to see if anyone fancied a trade? The Warwick was built in 1991 and is the thru neck version, I have owned it for that last 15 years. In pretty good condition all round and has been a great bass for me for so long. Looking really for a 5 string Stingray or Jazz but would consider Lakland or similar and happy to look at some cash adjustments either way! Let me know if you are interested and we can talk money and swap pics etc. Cheers
 15. Have not even got that far yet!! Spoke with Bernie this morning and next week we have to have a long chat to sort some of this out so I will let you know what is decided after that conversation! Can't wait!
At least tell us the spec, woods, colour etc.
16. Paul bought my KSD Jazz bass and is a great buyer - polite and efficient comms and very quick payment. Top bloke and highly recommended to others. What a great site this is!
 17. No worries at all - it is on his Greatest Hits type CD which I have had since I was 19! There is a great program by NCH Software called Golden Records which you can use to take music from cassette or vinyl directly on to your PC or Mac. I used it last week and it is great, easy to use and not bad quality either! If you go to www.nch.com.au and search for Golden Records you and download it and get a weeks free trial. Worth doing that just to get your fave records into MP3 or you could just buy them again on CD!
Thanks Gunsfreddy2003. Its a bit embarrasing that I have "If Only My Bass Could Talk" on vinyl but have not played it for a long time since I have no reliable way of transfering it to an MP3 player.
18. It was called Goodbye Pork Pie Hat and it is an old Charles Mingus tune! Hope that helps! Cheers Mark
Dear All I was at the concert at the Jazz Cafe in London on 22-05-2008. What was the name of the tune he opened the concert with before "Lopsy Lu". It is driving me mad as the riff seems very familiar. Anyone in the community know?
19. I sent Bernie my deposit and ordered my Spitfire 4 a month ago and really hope that it turns out as good as yours! How long did you have to wait for yours? I have been faithful to my Warwick for 15 years or so and then went down the Musicman route but I have to say that once I played one of these at Bernie's shop I was completely hooked and have now sold 3 of my 4 basses to fund this new bass. I really didn't think that there would be such a difference between the factory built stuff and the a custom bass like this but BOY there is! Interested to know how much you got to specify on this bass to your own requirements? Any pics of the back of the body and neck? Thanks Mark
I've had this about 2 months now and played it in most scenarios, my Gospel Bands, a Wedding do and several Covers band rehearsals. With +- 20 odd db on the three band eq most sounds are easily available through a set flat eqd LM11 and UL310. I would say that the mid control is overly fierce in comparison to the bass and treble, I understand these are adjustable and will get it seen to next time I visit Bernie. The overall output is hugely powerful and you do need to be carefull with your pre settings initially, and you need quality kit to bring out all the tonal nuances and harmonics she can produce. I call it the slap switch but it actually changes the pickup setup from parrallel to series I believe. The difference is subtle but unmistakably "GB" and adds that instant slight zing and almost a sort of echo to your slap notes, hard to explain! Playablity is superb, I understand the shape has changed over the years, and this being the latest incarnation is hugely playable, the neck is a work of art satin smooth and between Jazz and PB at the nut, just right. One comment I would make is that the bottom strap button being offset to one side makes it difficult to balance against a wall or your cab so the use of a stand is essential with such an investment, I would have preferred perhaps the twin button setup ala Status basses, small thing but trying to be objective. Bernies use of some fancy woods in my opinion makes for one mighty pretty bass, almost too much so if I were to frequent any "Pub" gigs, so I must invest in a less valuable instrument for those occasions. The finish and workmanship is impeccable and I would urge folk to try one if they get a chance, its a large investment but at my time of life its about time I spent some on myself. There are several Custom manufacturers in this price region and for the investment you have a choice to make if you want to stray away from the usual Fender fare and be "different", folk tend not to ask what sort of bass is that for some reason, which is cool with me.
20. I tried that Mark Bass stuff out and agree that it has a great sound, serious power and portability but the aesthetics of their gear always puts me off! I know that sound should be everything but I just could not cope with looking like a wasp!
For a really crisp, modern sound with plenty of scope for different music, go graphite necked Status (there's JohnGH's SII 5er on the for sale section) & anything MarkBass. You'll never look back!
21. Has anyone used the Elixir strings? I know they are supposed to last a lot longer due to the coating etc but the only bass player that I know to have used them advised that they felt weird and had a very strange tone and would never use them again no matter how long they lasted! I love the sound of a freshly strung bass but it always has a cost to do this for every gig - usually more than I get paid! Would be keen to try them if others rate them but don't really want to waste £40!
Some great comments here already............... I plead guilty to being very lax in changing strings, and I have been tempted to try Elixirs but they are expensive. I need to do some serious string research methinks. With regards to amps, I think I need to get something a little smaller than the Trace rig, so I'll will be selling that, and unfortunately will also be shifting one of the basses to help fund the amp. But the first thing I'll be doing is whacking some new strings on at least one of my basses, and I'll do that this weekend ( if either of the Sound Controls in Glasgow are still open ) Interestingly no-one has encouraged me to go for one of the Sei's that are for sale..................in my ignorance I'd have thought they would have been right up my sonic street. thanks again guys'n'gals, and please keep 'em coming. S
22. I will do - I have only just placed the order (last week) and understand that it could take up to 5 months to build. Must be patient, must be patient, must be patient - how long now?
Yup, the pictures just don't do the angel any justice at all. The funny thing is, everybody who has seen that bass, wants one like it. With wood like that, its pretty difficult finding anything remotely close! You'll love your GB. Post some pics once you have picked it up!
23. I have just put an order in for a GB Spitfire and am now feeling very enthused about the project having looked at these pics! I was down at Bernie's and saw "The Angel" when it was just a body with no electrics and etc and "in the white" ie no colour to the wood at all. I thought it would look good then but have to say that now it looks absolutely fantastic! I want one just like that!!
Another shot for your amusement
24. Need to shift the remaining basses from my collection and this is the next one that has to go! A superb example of this classic bass and in tip top condition for the age - honestly do not think you will find a better example, she has been really well looked after by her previous owners (one of whom is a fellow BC'er!). I need to return £700 on this bass which I think is a fair price for such an excellent example. Any questions then please PM me.
