Blatant self-plug (ooer): We did spoof the whole 'react/watch me playing a video game/deliberate clickbaity title' thing on our 100th video craptacular: which so far has had 27 views.. Oh well.. We had fun making it! I think the best bit is the song at the end actually... -

This rectum: Also, yeah, clickbaity titles... One of my subscription channels posted a video a while back explaining how youtube had changed their algorithms so basically if you didn't have "NUCLEAR EXPLOSION FAIL LOL" urls, the chances of you getting views is like, none... -
Yay! Yeah, its a super useful thing - also if you're powering other pedals with a daisy chain, it stops them picking up the 'dial-up' noise from the B3n..
-
Also re the 'keeping it simple' comments above - all the effects on this are actually an old Zoom 505. Still got mine and one of the things i do like about it is lack of tweakability.. Compression knee, attack ratio? No idea what that is but i've got Comp1-9 and one of them will probably do..
-
Noodling around last night, does the B1-four have the Squeak Rock patch? I've stuck a small reverb, put the blend to about 40% on the 'Squeak' and boosted the bottom on the speaker cab and it sounds brutal... Gives me a nice 'thrum' feeling in my upper belly..

Some weird noises courtesy of my reprieved Zoom attached..:D First one, a Krafterky idea for an upcoming song. Second one, i just call it 'Dr Funkenstein. And a nutter bar steward fairground organ from hell sound i found while trying to make Royal Blood type noises! synths.mp3

Where is your band playing? This sounds right up my alley... or have you anything on YouTube? Also: personally I like a wildly inappropriate cover version, so anything girls aloud or kylie stuck through a p-funk metal blender would be my suggestion... probably not helpful if your singer is all 'popular = crap'..

I do this with my b3n when I'm away for work (another reason not to sell it!). Laptop into zoom via the aux and out to headphones, it works well! I have played around with audio interfaces and then vst amps but unless your computer is bonkersly fast theres always latency. Plus somehow faffing with vst plugins is less fun than actual musical kit somehow...!

How good is the Zoom B3n? I brought one to find out.

Can you copy and paste settings in tonelib? I spent a while (after deciding to stick with digital, long story!) a/b-ing my favourite fuzz and finally replicated it, now i want to copy and paste it onto the front of other patches. Ok, i could note down the parameters and then recreate it everytime, but where's the fun in that? -
Oh yeah, as far as digital sqzchqsch noise goes, i have a joyo filter thingy in between the power supply and the B3n, sorts it right out. Also i find that sometimes my bass pickups er, pick up noise from computers, digital TVs etc. I've got a Ground lift box thing that tends to clean that up too (zoom to amp)... I live in an old building, probably dodgy electrics...

To be fair also, a lot of the amps and pedals that its modelling are pretty buzzy and fizzy.. Personally i'd maybe leave that bit off but you'd totally get people going 'hey where's the authentic hum duuuuuuuuuuude?'

2019 Gear Abstinence Challenge (Updated with 'rules')
operative451 replied to Sibob's topic in General Discussion
Basically i 'replaced' it with analog pedals, couldn't really tell the difference, and so the pedals are going back to Amazon! I seem to get on better with guitar effects, so if anyone knows a way of hacking the firmware so it thinks its a G3, i have some black spray paint handy,... ;D -
Its basically the B3n with fewer buttons and plastic. Bit annoying actually! FYI i still have my 20+ year old zoom 505 mk1 which its basically a successor too, and its had a lot of bashing about and works fine. If you don't jump on it, i don't think it will be a problem!

Post your pedal board - Basschat style!!

Okay, okay, i get it. Individual pedals are Just Better (although please buy my Zoom ;D) Proper power supply, proper compressor and bought a replacement for the Joyo California sound that i previously sold... Now i need a proper board instead of some random bits of plastic i found in the rubbish pile at work... -

Boo, that's annoying! Oh well, we all know what it looks like! I'll fix it when I'm near my computer... Well, if no-one buys it, it's bizarrely not bad as a guitar processor, so... -

I've failed. Finally got fed up with the level of fiddling required with digital and have pedal versions of the things i use most coming from amazon...! Fortunately just a decent compressor (Electro Harmonix bass preacher) and a joyo california sound (that i had but sold..!). And there was the speaker replacement in the amp. But i consider that maintenance... And the Zoom B3n is up for sale on the effects forum, so that cancels it out, right? -
Finally after much um and erring, decided I'm more of a 'couple of pedals and into the amp' kinda bassist, so i'm offering up my Zoom B3n for a new home. It basically does about 97 more things than i need! Pics below, cropped from pedalboard image. I'm away from home at the moment so i can take more pics when i get back (next week). There's a ding on the right side, bit of paint scratched off, but in great condition other than that! I'll give it a polish and do a factory reset unless you specifically want my wacky patches! I don't have the original box but i'll throw in the neoprene zip cover and the joyo power supply filter that i use with it which is handy if you're somewhere with noisy power. Original zoom power supply also included. £95 posted, i'd consider swaps or part exchange for interesting pedals! (edited as the pics fell off)

Update: I've been wanting to get this a bit cranked and I don't want to upset my neighbours too much, so I dragged this, my B3n and my trusty bass to my local rehearsal place today. Handily, even though I booked the cheapest room (as I was byo-ing), it had a nice ashdown head and what looks like a 4x10, so that was handy for 'this is what proper bass amps' sound like' reference. Ok, so first job, after getting coffee and tuning, get a sound I like out of the ashdown. Must admit I like a bit more 'twang' than it had but I've never used super posh gear so I have no idea if that's what proper grownup kit sounds like! Next, straight into the hbw... which I wouldn't have bothered with previously as it sounded kind of... blegh. Now: much better, not as much thud as the ashdown but a pleasingly punky honk if I pushed the high mids! There was a Marshall half stack there too. So obvs I was lemmy for a few minutes. Being careful not to hurt the speakers! Then, for reference, played the zoom through the PA. Which was fine and probably closest to my hbw, which was loosely the plan as I wanted it quite neutral and FRFRish to use the cab sims on the zoom. Then into the hbw! Yep, that worked! Not as earth shaking (or loud) as the ashdown but plenty loud enough! And the handy thing about the speaker being able to handle about 4 times the wattage of the amp, there was minimal speaker distortion. It was doing a weird sort of tremolo thing with some nutter fuzz noises at one point but then I realised it was actually vibrating... so, note to self, put it on carpet next time..! Job's most definitely a good 'un...

I should have stuck a mic in front of it and recorded it before i started... Can't be bothered to put the other speaker back in though! I've actually finished it, i just don't have the pics yet (cos i forgot to take them!) - yeah, the dirst thing i noticed is that the EQ knobs now DO SOMETHING, where all they seem to do before was either add mud or string rattle. It is a bit less loud but a lot more bassy (heft? Might be good for metal?) and i've been using it with a Zoom b3n anyway, but now i could actually use it by itself. I may have to drag it to my local rehearsal space and see how loud it goes. The previous speaker just went PTTTHHHH at about 1/4 volume but didn't seem to go up any louder. I think this speaker will stay clean with the amp more cranked. Also, note the UMC404HD velcroed to the top, i usually DI into that and out to the amp - my benchmark bass tone is the isolated bass recording (its on youtube) of REM's Orange Crush. I stuck that through it and it sounded epic..!

The speaker has a weird connector.. And the wire from the amp isn't very long, so... The speaker has to go in upside-down! I went for 'wonky' cos then it looks like you meant to do it...
