I know several people with guitars like that, didn't know there was a bass.

I wasn't specifically talking about housing, although there are issues there, more education / social structures, although with housing, although it was tough with interest rates, you could actually get a mortgage, even going without carpets and curtains. I got a mortage as a junior engineer on my own salary (on a small house). that same house now, on an equivalent salary I would have no chance to get - in fact probably on my actual salary. I am not blaming the people who have the houses, I am blaming years of underinvestment in not building houses, and people not really voting for that as a priority. All people ever really want to do is pay less tax and moan that there are no services any more, but that is human nature.

I think you misread that, are you sure it didn't say that THEY were too dense to verify what was in the box?

I have a Squier mustang that I should probably move on as I am not playing it, so I will bring it in case anyone wants to try or buy it! -
The Big Fat South-West Bass Bash 2022 - Sunday 9th October

Luckily I only have to drive a shorter distance so I don't have to play with your conkers! -
Not blaming the students, blaming the governments, although the governments of the day and the people who vote them in are often the people who benifitted from those things.

The Big Fat South-West Bass Bash 2022 - Sunday 9th October

Traditionally it is like the old apple phone events where oyu just bring a tent and a chair and camp out overnight to be one of the first in and get high fived by the staff. Failing that, you can just turn up at any time between 10:00 and 16:00 and walk in -
They didn't raise their prices in line, they were a government created institude made after the war to answer the problem that most people unless they were well off didn't have a chance to get to university (not just the fees, the need to work), and as such they were subsidised. That subsidy was removed in 2010, so the masters I was doing had to be abandoned, as they had to charge what they charge now. So my degree cost me 6k. Now it would cost over £20k. I would have never been able to do that, I felt guilty enough taking that much money from our income at the time. Still, handy pensioners still have access, its a shame the 'people like me' never will. Seems like modern life is very much about doing something, pulling the drawbridge up so the next generation don't get that oportunity and wondering why kids are moody and don't want to do anything.

The last two laptops I have came with a USB-C charger, which is understandable, as they need more power. The dell one was just a hard linked power supply, but the apple one was just a power supply with a USB-C socket and a USB-C to Magsafe lead. Which is great as apple make rubbish leads that break, and I have had to buy several different power supplies as the lead was dead, now I just need the lead. However, I got a couple of devices with USB-C power sockets so I had to go and buy new leads for those. Standardisation huh?

Used to be a lot cheaper! You have to be pretty well off to do it now.

I did my degree on the OU too, luckily finishing before the government changed, couldn't have afforded it now. My dad didn't believe in going to uni, so I had no other option earlier I did the full 360, the only year I struggled was doing a 60 and a 30 in the same year, especialy when the 30 which should have been easy was just badly done (Think it was a first year of intro) Still glad I did it and lucky with my timing

For Sale Section Error
Woodinblack replied to BassApprentice's question in Site Issues and Questions
I most definitely know the reason! -
I think this would have been a great thing 10 years ago with all the nokia chargers and everything with thousands of adaptors, but at the same token a) everything now just has a USB socket on it and a lead to get to what you want b) I am not sure I am keen on legislation saying what type of connection something has, because who decides these things. I assume the new standard is USB C, so the 90% case in my house of having USB A sockets providing power everywhere will mean a lot of new adapters and having had to wait for a long time not upgrading my macbook because the new ones had USB-C power sockets, rather than the magsafe which is what i need in a laptop that i use on a daily basis.

Hi All, The forum was upgraded tonight to a new version of PHP (the language it runs on) as the world has moved on and we could no longer do updates without upgrading it. it seems to have gone jolly well, apart from the Sales forum falling over. I believe that I have fixed that now, but if anyone else sees anything unusual (and I mean really unusual, not just someone posting that they don't think that the P bass is all that, or that maybe jaco would have been better on a 6 string), can you let us know, thanks

For Sale Section Error
Woodinblack replied to BassApprentice's question in Site Issues and Questions
AFAIK, having found the error I have fixed it and in my checking it now seems to work in both light and dark themes (I was feeling all clever about fixing it and noticed the logs still erroring, and remembered the dark theme). I am now not getting errors, so I am assuming fixed. If anyone is still getting it (on a newly clicked page), can you let me know by message or something, thanks! -
Worst cover version (by competent musicians)
Woodinblack replied to Nail Soup's topic in General Discussion
It takes a song with real power and feeling and removes all emotion from it, merely replacing it with being loud. Honestly never heard a cover version by a proper group that destroyed the feeling of a song so badly, or a song that I actually felt such hate for that it actually made me feel less of the group. -

Well, he is wrong, it is absolutely dire. and I like disturbed. -
Agreed, they look a bit odd like that (even more so on that one where you see how they are out). My shuker has slightly angled pickups, but as they are black on black and only jazz size, they don't really notice but as his are big, they do.
-
Love that. Which isn't surprsing as most of his colourwork is good
-
Literally was my problem with it. I wasn't even colour blind so what reason did they have!

The careers advisers job was basically to funnel everyone at my school into the dockyard or the military. To be fair I went to interviews for both. The Air force were really enthusiastic, but it turned out that they wanted me to be an engineer that didn't involve learning to fly a plane AND i had to cut my hair, and the dockyard (hellish interview) offered me that job but it was a 1/3rd less than marconi did, so a bit of a no brainer.

I think the light marks make it. There is a very similar uberhorn that doesn't have the marks, I prefer the one with, it adds a highlight. Only because it is a fretless! The uberhorns are supremely comfortable and mine is so light. Only downside is they wouldn't be so good for someone who wanted to use a plectrum at the time.
