  1. I have a yamaha (and older model) which I love, because it is 'just' a piano (to be fair it does have the options of another couple of voices but I never use them) and sometimes it is good to play just a piano and focus on what you are playing rather than the sound (the sound is fine but, its just a piano). Above it I have a synth in case I want to play synth stuff, worry about sounds and control issues. The piano is midi'd up, as sometimes I use it to record midi from, but I wouldn't actually really use it as a master keyboard for anything, I would use the roland with its synth keys and controls. Or if I wanted real control I have the roli or linstrument. Point is, for me, a piano is a piano and a synth / controller is a synth controller, and although I would run a piano sound from the synth, I wouldn't really run a synth from the piano
  2. There are loads of bass players there, but by now they have probably gone home!
  3. Not me, I had a westone guitar and it was fantastic. I went to get something else from Telecoms in portsmouth and they just had some of the first westones there - they played so well, everyone loved them. They were like the first actual budget guitar that I saw that actually played very well. I modded it so heavily and I would say it was my first useable guitar, replacing my Kay Pine Strat POS edition.
  4. He did, I sent the details and never heard back!
  5. I guess your bass bashes are quiet affairs!
  6. Impressive but makes you wonder if you want that much stuff, why not go for the X32 which has the 16 channel sliders and the 8 bus sliders?
  7. Yeh, I used to use the thing before it was band helper but it was too unweildy and complicated for me, so I just use a much simpler song / set list - I have the iPad as it has to run the mixer and synths etc.
  8. I was going to say put it at the end of the song!
  9. Outdoor gig, normally enjoyable. It was a bit more overcast than last week so audience was down a bit but still more than I expected. We had dragged a lot of pre-pandemic forgotten songs back, and also brought another 3 new songs forward as we had played this venue a few months ago. First half was good, good reaction, did one of the new songs and a few of the old songs, nothing really bad. Played my Maruschyck, that I had stopped playing as I had put coated strings on and it had messed the setup so much that it was lifeless and buzzy - I put it on a hanger for a few months, and took it off the hanger last week and it was fine - no idea how that happens., Second half did the other new songs, one seemed to go down well, one less so. BUt there were quite a few mistakes in common songs we do, left a verse out of one song, then about half an hour messed up one song so bad it couldn't be recovered, so the confidence was completely gone. Got through the rest of the songs, and it wasn't pleasant. Afterwards the drummer decided to quit at christmas so the guitarist decided to quit then and there. So that looked like it for the group. However, this morning, things are back on track, but we have to make sure that this doesn't happen. I mean it shouldn't happen, the new songs and the recovered songs were fine, this was a song we had been doing for 4 years or so and had done it loads of times.
  10. Congrats on the new bass - don't have to worry about saving the green one for you any more!
  11. Who did you request - there aren't any support requests connected to this that I can see?
  12. I used to use an XR16 (still have it), it was actually enough, but the 18 lets you do multichannel recording so you can postmix, and I really wanted to do that!
  13. Also full graphic equaliser on any channel and overall channel, 4 effect slots with loads of choices (that are actually good). The 5GHz router (which you don't absolutely need) is about £30 and usb powered. And the main useful thing is you can just stick it at the back where its easier for everyone to plug in, rather than have it where you can access it during the gig, and when you go to set up, you can wander out into the crowd and adjust it from the FOH.
  14. You need a tablet. doesn't actually have to be separate, mine also does lyrics and runs soft synths. But I also have a XControl, which gives me sliders and stuff
  15. I did the sound for my old drummer a few months back and he had a soundcraft signature, I am not sure what model, but it was pretty big. it was ok for an old school mixer, although being an X18 user there was a limited number of outputs and its a little harder going back to that sort of mixer, but in the end I got a reasonable sound and they seemed happy enough on stage (there were 6 of them, sharing monitors). The mixer actually worked fine and was more flexible than the old alto my old group used to use, although made me realise how I couldn't actually go back to that style!
  16. US prices are never quoted with taxes, because it makes it more fun that way. Also you pay different taxes in different places, however you can buy them without taxes in the right places and even when you do, the taxes aren't that high.
  17. Almost certainly - it has been kicked and thrown around by a lot of people between poland and the UK!
  18. For the clarification of any doubt here, couldn't @Clarky, who I belive has one of those amps, replicate the settings that @dmccombe7 used and see if his sounds in the same ballpark? I could get my ashdown to make that completely overloaded noise, and I could get it to make the smooth noise, but there was no setting where it could do both.
  19. But if I was to be actually serious, the one that really shined when my wife used it was my mic, which is a TC-Electroncs MP75. She had a shure 58, but never really liked it.
  20. Some already listed: Pearl Jam - Ten Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast Pink Floyd - wish you were here Hawkwind - Levitation Fields of the Nephilim - Fields of the Nephilim Michael Kiwanuka - Love and Hate Hard Corps - Def before dishonour Sade - Diamond Life Genesis - Trick of the tail Camel - Moonmadness Kate Bush - Everything she did before Aerial Rush - Everything they did after caress of steel and before Hold your fire. But if it was going to be one album, genesis is the one that has stayed with me longer, but there is one.. hmm.. track, so it would have to be Fields of the Nephilim.
  21. What you go to all that extra effort? Clearly noone here in marketing, you just have to take whatever microphone you have and make a pink version. Or add some glitter. Job done!
  22. That is the point of active pickups (not active basses), where the actual pickup is too weak on its own, and it is amplified at source to make it up to normal level output. Some people certainly prefer the sounds, although 'more musical' is an asthetic choice, not an absolute value. Certainly with a weaker magnet or lower coil winding, there is a physical measurable reduction on impact on the strings (not in carole kayes case, turning the volume down just makes it quieter, which you just amplify more later, the pickup still has the same impact), whether this makes it better or not depends on what you like.
  23. Agreed, it is a very good cover, but not quite as good as the original.
