  1. I have the critical mass, it is one of the pedals I use for specific songs, like the 'hey teacher' in brick in the wall, the background of I get knocked down, both as gang vocals, and doubled for you should be dancing.
  2. I tried to get one, but left it too long, and the ones I saw advertised were stupid money.
  3. A multi effects unit? Currently switched from using my ABM600 to a ME90b straight to the PA.
  4. Friend of mine said they were looking to get tickets. I recommended the 4th at cardiff, the first one. At least you stand a chance that they will actually start that one!
  5. Well, I just looked. I 'think' bruce springsteen, coldplay and Hozier count as bands? Of the others I am sure there are actually quite a few with actual bass guitarists on the stage.
  6. Yes, started on piano as a kid, then went to guitar when it wasn't cool to be playing piano in my later teens. Then went to bass then switched back to guitar. Quit guitar in my 30s and took it up again in my 40s, then got in with a good group of musicians, noting that most of them were better guitarists than me, and it was hard to get a gig as a guitarist as there were so many so went to bass, then realising I loved bass more than I did guitar. Then I got a chapman stick, which even after all this time I feel I am a beginner on, but still have a fascination for that stops me getting rid of it!
  7. There are quite a few devices that have all of those, I would say it was more the normal than unique. Any cheap digital mixer or IO box does it, I have a spark amp that does that very well (but also has a lot of effects) that I use in my living room, I have a behringer uphoria 202 that has two mic / xlr / jack sockets in, headphones out and does 96k usb out which I use for my chapman stick (as that is stereo and can use its 48v phantom), that is less than £50 and uses proper usb sockets - I hate micro-usbs for anything, it is a terrible socket that is always the first failure point.
  8. Group I was with a long time ago did that. Always liked it.
  9. Was there a 'value of youthfulness, energy and happiness' can go up or down disclaimer?
  10. Local club that can be hit or miss, but easy load in and a lot of space. I have been going through the PA recently apart from outdoor gigs where I need a bit more power, but tonight I thought I would take my home setup in to see what it sounded like, that is a Warwick Gnome 10" cab and a BAM200. I was very impressed at just how loud it got, and how you couldn't put anything on the speaker without it falling off! So I cut back on the PA and put a lot through the bam/gnome. Had the advantage of being able to feel it through the stage. Anyway, unusually, a group of older ladies started dancing from song 1, and largely speaking, danced most of the set, which was nice, so by the end of the gig everyone was up. Makes it quite rewarding, and for us, a short gig at only 2 hours so home before midnight.
  11. this is true, there are always some exceptions and I know some great blues mucisians, but I have seen more bad than good when it comes to blues, it does tend to be the lowest common denominator of musicians so I am always impressed when I hear a good one and very impressed if I hear something special
  12. Changed my mind and also changed the chinese whisper of my original post! scrumpymike - everything he owns unless he sells it between now and then Rich - Shuker 5-string, something else (will toss a coin on the day), Genz Benz Shuttle 9.2, Barefaced Super 12T cab. BreadBin - something interesting chyc - a very nice double bass, an Ashbory Bass, GSS 06B400MKD combo, and possibly Warwick Streamer fretless, Sandberg Custom 5 with Delano XTender, Sandberg TT Marcus Miller rip-off, BC 110T cabinet, BC 112mk3 cabinet, Acoustic Image Coda TRBboy - Frost Custom Basses PJ5 (my first build from scratch), Sandberg California TT5 Passive, possibly my customised Yamaha BBN5, Markbass Stu Amp 1000w, GR Bass GR 410+ (1200w, 4 ohm), a fairly unexciting pedal board 😅, & converted Trace 1x15" cab, if it's in a satisfactory state by then Stub Mandrel - Joyo BadASS & PJB C2, American Vintage II 1960 Precision & Squier 40th Anniversary Precision for side by side comparison. Chienmortbb Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass, Sire Marcus Miller M2, Bugera Veyron. LFSys Monza Cabinet, Zoom B2Four.
  13. Lots do - I loved the thunderbird, if I was playing in a rock context I would play one all the time, but I do a lot of pop and only really play 5 strings. Which is why the dingwall would be nice, if I trusted chinese dingwalls! Oh yes, I have never played an alpher, and would really like one, but its a lot of money if I don't know what they are like!
  14. Never played a real ric for long enough to get bored of it, never played a ric 5 string (the 4003s5), never played a ritter or a fedora. Never played a canadian dingwall for beyond a minute, which I would like to but the Combustion pretty well put me off any of the chinese ones. Probably would like to see if the thunderbird shaped ones are better. A few others I haven't tried but nothing that I would like to go out of my way to do so.
  15. Thats because it doesn't take much power, the preamp is on all the time the jack socket is plugged in (and the passive switch doesn't switch it off either). The G&Ls are not like the standard ones, in that the tone controls on a G&L work the same whether the preamp is on or not, but not in any other ways
  16. Well, dont' have one on me to look at the moment, but its the other end. The xlr socket and eject button are on a board that are held by (I think) 4 screws on 4 pillars. That comes off the other end to the aerial, and enables you to slide the board out and all the other plastic just comes off. make sure you don't lose the switches they are just little bits of plastic that press on something on the board. Will posts pictures of it appart later.
  17. They are wired as two sets of coils, which enables them to cancel ambient noise without changing the tone like a humbucker.
  18. I have shimmed necks and I have had guitars (mostly) and a bass with shims. I never saw any issues caused by it. If you want some fancy wooden slanted shim then fine, knock yourself out, I would never critisize for taking precautions, but having played strats that have had shims in them for 40 years and seen no issues, its not something I am going to worrry about
  19. What do you mean? Do you need the XR18 somewhere else?
  20. Yes, I love the X-Touch so I have it everywhere, although I also use the X-Air app as it is easier for going out front for a setup and for doing eq on (never got on with mixing station).
  21. I think the people who would come along wouldn't have actually noticed there was a bass player.
  22. I am happy that there is no underlying problem *now*, not necessarily that there wasnt earlier (and after a gig yesterday, I slept through 3 snoozes so 8am wasn't a time I checked!). There are always some edge cases at the end of a page, and maybe one of those was in play.
  23. I looked at that page a few times today and didn't see this. Also, 700 pages long probably wouldn't make it into the top 10 of threads
  24. Odd one for us yesterday. The drummer is in another band, they had a gig at one of the venues that is hard to get in (a local beauty spot on a hill), but their singer couldn't be bothered, so he asked if we wanted to do it, but our singer was away. Rather than turn it down he decided that we would ask the singer of another band if she wanted to do a one off gig with us as she had recently quit her band, so she said ok. So we had 4 weeks for us to make a 45 track set list which consisted of all the songs that our setlists shared, so she had to learn 15-20 of ours, and we had to learn 10-15 of hers. and a couple of holidays in the middle. So we did it yesterday. Unfortunately the crowd was a bit smaller than usual as they had put an odd name up for the group (we would have got more with our own name), but it worked out pretty well, there were a few little mistakes as you can imagine, but there were no disasters and we got through it well. And more importantly it was fun!
