  1. Or battle off an attack by a group of klingons
  2. Agreed - I have had this as well with them. Having run a couple of online shops, yes, it should be very easy that the second you take a valid payment for one, it goes from the website. Still, lets hope this new website helps (although, it isn't really the website, its the people running it).
  3. Would certainly like to see either of those!
  4. Intresting positioning of the GK3, on the back. Also sticking out like that. Never thought of putting one there. Often think of putting one on again, but I think the next time I do, it will be an internal one.
  5. Its butt ugly, but also fairly distinctive, so I guess it is both. While I agree with you on most things on the wal, it has a very ugly headstock - or at least the originals were, they got better with the 5 strings later on.
  6. That is cheap for an alpher!
  7. literally the reason. Old fenders are in demand but also reasonably common so if you wanted a 1966 fender jazz for instance, there are quite a few around and you can pick and choose, they pop up all the time. However, if you want something like this, you really don't see them very often, when one appears there are going to be quite a few people going for the same item. it's not like these instruments are going to be played or gigged
  8. I do a whole series of 'no way this will work' bids on ebay of which 95% never come to anything, but sometimes, there is a bargain to be had. But no, I wouldn't want to sort through 10,000 singles!
  9. Very much not for me, but it is always nice to see people trying to do non FSOs!
  10. I had a problem with a few auctions on eBay right at the start, let alone real ones, so you have to be pretty rigid and say 'this is my limit and no more' - there is no point thinking, 'well it only went a few quid higher than I bid so I should have bid more', as you never know if you had bid more, it might have gone up more, and it is always just a little bit higher, and before you know it, you have bought a kay for £200! (caveat, I have not ever done that!)
  11. No, the bass is switched on by plugging in a mono jack to a stereo socket. The transmitter - I don't know if that is by putting a stereo plug into a mono socket or if it has one of those little bars like the roland transmitters have. But that could be got round by an extension lead. However, now I have done some looking, there are quite a few reports of the G30 creating a high pitched whining noise on some active basses (and not others), so maybe they just say that so that people aren't sending them back.
  12. haha - sorry, I could have checked. It was crazy money at both prices. But then auctions are like that if you get two people who aren't prepared to back down, things can go crazy.
  13. The OP said it was after commission, 11k before commission. People pay crazy money for old things. they don't have to be at all good, just old.
  14. I would say that is more splitting hairs, although it is strictly true, I would say an active pickup such as an EMG or the like is an active pickup in that it is a sealed unit that wont work without power. It doesn't really matter what the internal function of that sealed unit is as you can't use it passively (and even if you could the output would be too small to use). And would distinguish that from an active bass which 9 times out of 10 is a passive bass with a preamp. I would consider any active bass where you could tell the difference between the output level when it was active to when it was passive to be faulty. Either way, not the reason for the line6 issue here, that is down to the stereo plugs.
  15. that is the setup of your basses, not a feature of active basses. However almost every active bass on the market has a stereo socket (not 'is stereo') for switching on off the battery. If your active bass doesn't have a power switch it certainly will have a stereo socket. The line 6 wireless use a stereo plug for powering, so there is a risk of incompatibility there
  16. No - since when were active pickups louder than passive pickups - I never understood where those sort of comments came from. A good active pickup should have exactly the same voltage output as a passive pickup into a reasonable load such as the input of a bass amplifier, or it wouldn't be any good. I suspect they a) don't mean specifically mean active pickup, but active bass and b) are referring to the stereo output jack on an active bass
  17. I wouldn't say ugly on those but there is something wrong with the proportions I like gold hardware but once you have gone sunburst and tort there is no way you can go up, so I would agree in that specific case. However, I would say if that was on a P, it would be uglier.
  18. Down to tuning though isn't it. It is only 3 more strings than a chapman grand stick, and that is easy enough to play
  19. There are quite a few youtube videos of such things if you want to see it!
  20. Doesn't even sound slightly prog to me, but it is a good bit of work.
  21. I have seen FoTN quite a few times. Saw them back in Portsmouth Guildhall in 1990 and they were actually not that great, so I stopped going to see them, but carried on seeing the mission as they were always good. Then a few years back I went to see FoTN and Mission on a double bill at the kentish town forum, and they were actually fantastic, and the mission, well, they were pretty terrible (and didn't want to be there). Funny how one off gigs can taint your whole view.
  22. I have used my bam200 in a practice (which is nearly as loud as a gig), but don't think I would use it on its own in a gig.
  23. Yes, I just went to read his comment. he felt that noone really appreciated it as they never went in the studio together, so assume he hadn't done much.
  24. He was one of the people playing keys on it, there were several and both Waters and Gilmour said he had next to no creative input in it, which is why he was sacked. Although I suspect that was more Waters idea. It started a long time before 85 and I suspect will stay forever.
