I like it more literal. Offer something for £400: Whats your best price? My best price is about £800, but I am willing to take £400

A bolt on neck always seems a bit of a budget thing to me but TBH, I haven't really ever noticed too much issue playing at the top end. As most bolt ons are fender style they tend to not go up that many frets anyway. I feel a neck through is nicer to play, but that doesn't mean it gets played any better. And I have never had sound issues with bolt on or neck through, for me it is a fingerboard / tonewood style microdifference that I wouldn't notice anyway.

What are you listening to right now?
Woodinblack replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
She does, although so did Rocky, the previous singer. -
Some very nice basses. Going through bass direct is an option if you want something general (or here, there are quite a few that pass through our marketplace), but one of the advantages they have is that they can do whatever you want. As you are at the beginning of the thread you will still be at the point where the only way to get one was to contact them and ask, wheras a few years back the configurator came out, and you could then automatically pick what you want, but there are still limits. Mine for instance was configured the old way, which gives you options you cant get otherwise, such as the neck on mine, flamed maple with ebony and I specified the width at both ends and the thickness to be an exact match to my #1 ibanez neck. And it is. Blind you can't tell the difference (except the ibanez neck is actually a bit rougher due to the woods). Its also chambered for weight reduction with a 3+2 headstock, which at the time didn't exist as an actual model, although it is now close to an Elwood L24.

Obviously its is easy to know something is there once you have been around a bit! It should take you a while to get through. The long and short is they make fantastic basses in pretty much every combination you could want, and options that are hard to get anywhere else. The quality is mostly superb except maybe for screws and fittings, 90% of the time everything will be perfect, if it isn't they will fix it for you mostly but mr Maruszczyk can come over as a bit harsh. If you specify something, specify everything, don't make assumptions about what would be obvious, as it might not be! I have a Maruszczyk, I love it, one of my favourite basses. However, I have had broken screws and mine also lacks string retainers which means I have to be really careful stringing it to avoid buzz. but honestly, I should just buy some string retainers!

Well, if want in depth opinions and the true collective experience, the best place to look is the 128 page Maruszczyk thread. That should keep you busy for a while.

Here is the leon before sticking stuff in it As you said, the seats aren't entirely flat, but as soon as you put the PA on them they go fairly flat! So that is everything in my list up there, plus the bass bin

Obviously the B6 is much bigger than the B3 / b3n / HXFX - I can't find a picture of any of them side by side to get an idea how much bigger. Anyone have one?

Some lyrics are the whole point of the song and the sound is just there to give them something to play against. Sometimes the words are just there to go across the music. Some the music is very full and it is up to you what bit you really pay attention to. I tend to do backing singing and some other singing, so I do listen to the words.

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
Woodinblack replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
Would also mention here that Fender Precisions did also at various points come in medium scale (32"), which might be useful for you. -
ok, additional points with that then, there are two types of keyboards you can get, weighted or non weighted (and also semi weighted, and thinking about it membrane and a few others, lets ignore that and stick with 2!). If he is used to the piano he might not be that keen on the non weighted which is what most synths are, but then he might be - I have a DS49 which isn't weighted and a piano that is. The Roland DS 61 is weighted, the 49 isn't weighted. The D isn't either, there is a cost implication (and weight) in having weighted keyboards. Might be worth your son nipping into a shop and trying some to see if he gets on with it ok.

Sure is. I think if it went fully I would still try and get another one as there is nothing that is the same format as that. Although there is a part of me saying 'if I got an echo, chorus, overdrive, octave up and autowah pedal, I would have everything covered. But that would take as much space with an additional 5 leads, 5 power leads and 10 connectors to go wrong live. Or I hold out for when TC electronics get round to making a plethora 2 that had a bit more plethora!

If you want something really cheap to be getting on with there is the Roland:Go, but not sure how robust it would be for gigging. There are also the Yamaha MXs that are looking cheaper second hand, but a good thing would be to watch a review on them to see if the interface is something you get on with. I must admit the thing I like on the Roland DS (and VRs), is the interface is very much 'I want a piano, press the piano button then if I want look for a variation'. Sometimes a keyboard can be a bit of a rabbit hole, chasing a specific sound. i have known too many keyboard players who were good players, but ask them for a change of sound and that was the next half an hour gone.

Prices of everything have rocketed - I bought my DS new for £600, now used ones are that price. Also I was waiting for the price of used VR09s to get down below £400, they got almost there and started going up again.

I must admit, in hindsight, as someone who had a B3 that I used a lot and sold it for a B3n which I have hardly used and still don't really get, I sort of regret getting rid of the B3. That and the B1-Four which again I rarely use, are probably why I will skip the B6. Only problem is that as much as I like the HXFX which I do, it is now getitng to the stage that 50% of the times I turn it on it says firmware failed, and the last time I turned it on at a practice, it firmware failed twice in a row. I presume at some point it could fully die. Actually I think I will do a firmware update on it. Not today though, I am playing a wedding tonight!

I would go for a Roland DS if you want easy with generally good sounds, or a Roland VR09 if you want to do a lot of organ stuff

The seats on the Leon are almost flat, certainly flat enough to slide the speakers on. I think I am odd in this case as I don't mind the lane assist if that's what you mean, you turn it off when you are in lane mode by rolling the wheel down to get the list and pressing it to turn off

Yes, almost certainly the MU50 will have better sounds, so not a bad choice. The advantage these have is just the plug and play USB and no other required leads. You read the power order wrong, these actually have batteries in and can power your keyboard as well, they don't need to be the other way round.

No, the guy who came up with the HP as a unit of measurement was in the business of selling things to replace horses. You would hardly want to say 'well, heres my new machine, its very expensive and unreliable and only as powerful as a 5 day old foal'.

I don't know about the skoda, but it is the same family as the seat, so I guess things might be similar. I have a seat leon ST (estate) which has a flat loadin and seats that go down. But the actual floor of the leon is actually lower, and it just has some floor thing which makes it level. if you want, you can take that out and put it at a lower level, whcih presumably gives you more space top to bottom but gets rid of your flat loading, so I have never done it. But it can be done. Is it not a similar thing but with yours put down at a lower level? - edit - I looked at a review, it is the same thing but it is an option, I guess mine was just one that had it fitted. If I didn't have it, I would just get a 6mm MDF from B&Q, cut it the right size and paint it black or put some carpety stuff on it, it would be exactly the same thing.

Largely speaking they are functional. Some of them are pretty good, some of them are a bit non convincing, it varies on a patch by patch basis. you have the general piano / horns / strings etc and you can find reasonable patches for some of those, but it is not really competing with some of the really good sound modules (or even the iPad apps). For use on a stage they are fine, I wouldn't really use them for recording. I got it for use on the stage, for home I have some good apps and a Roland DS, which sound better. In fact on stage I mostly use the iM1 app, whcih sound better, but it is handy that it is just a hardware box you can plug in and make noise. I think they are very good for the price.

Most of the places we go have toilets so we are ok with that.
