What are your views on the vinyl s(pl)urge?
Woodinblack replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
I loved it when I was young, the whole ritual of the music, but then in my late teens and early 20s I moved a lot and it was a pain moving around. Then CDs came out later on and the sound quality was a revelation so I got rid of all my albums and got CDs. I loved the sleves and liner notes and records had more 'value' as objects than CDs, which I understand, but I couldn't be bothered with it now. I mostly listen to all my music on random, but if I want to actually listen I will listen to the whole thing. Not very common these days. -
Correction - our borders are very weak, we aren't checking much that comes in, we have chosen to stop ourselves exporting with anyone close to us.
-
Indeed - that was the point, it is a problem now but wasn't before brexit.
-
This was about 2nd hand goods though, not new items that thomman sell.
-
That was never really that much of an issue - I did several pre-brexit trades and the shipping wasn't really a problem.

Not really because the person selling it in spain (for instance) is not responsible for the costs of VAT and import duty of every non EU country in the world, which are all different. Unfortunately now we have removed ourself from the customs union that includes us, so our choices are reduced (in many things). THey just have to list where they are (the EU) and how much they are selling it for. It is the responsibilty for someone outside the EU to work out what their local customs and VAT charges are, because they are not fees they are getting. And if you find something from somewhere else is too expensive, the best option is to not get it. Sadly (or maybe luckily) there were a few basses I have seen that I would have bought a few years ago before we left but now with charges they are too much.
-
Complaining that a bass from the EU was too cheap?

Are you complaining that a bass from the EU was too expensive?

Nice that Ibanez only care about the US
-
Indeed - I mean they have a lot of guitars and have very few basses, even second hand. generally my local shop even has more basses

I don't often say Fender and Wow in the same sentence but...

But he is a collector., so it is a bit different Its just a fancy name for period correct nitro finish. Its a bit of a cheat as New Old Stock generally means old stock that was never sold, as you get with valves or electronic components, something that was made a long time ago but never sold. These aren't them, these just look like it. -
Turns out that Andertons who said they could get the LT actually couldn't and have now removed it from their site. So probably out of the question cost wise unless something s/h turns up (which would be more sensible anyway). I still like the dimension but it seems everything says that getting the korean dimension over the euros would be a bad move (even though I like fan frets, and it was nice to play).

Thats annoying, I was in exeter last week and decided against going into mansons as they never have any interesting basses!
-
Shame they didn't bring the middle to a dual pot on the front - I guess it would be easy enough to do.

I really do like that colour on a bass. I think it might be a while before we get it on BMWs. Oh those were alway popular for reasons that I have never been able to understand. I guess its like strickly come dancing, a popularity that to me makes no sense! -
Thanks - was looking at the one at andertons (not even sure they have it, even if they say that they can get it) whcih was the tonepump and the fluence pickups. I really liked the fishman pickups in the Dimension that I played (not noticing the B string issue that they say about on talkbass), I thought it was very clear. I certainly wouldn't be that interested in the darkglass preamp, as it seems more a dingwall thing.

Zoom b1-four

Very nice, but by accessible to me I was thinking under 2k, I don't even know if I like them yet, or what makes an lt different from an lx or an rst etc
-
So still looking at spectors after my failure to get a dimension at a good price. I am guessing from the prices that the LT is better than the LX. why is that, and is what makes it difference worth it? There seems to be a shortage of accessible Spector 5s around at the moment anyway!

Trying to get Cliff Burton live tone but can't get an Ibanez HD1500

Bearing in mind that is very old tech, I would think the helix or zooms would do it without raising a sweat. -
Problem using multiple guitars on stage.

Saw placebo a few years back. The bass player changed bass every song. From one thunderbird to a different thunderbird. I didn't realise there was so much variations between thunderbirds, either way, they all sounded the same. -
Well, yes, when the stomp XL came out I was expecting like an LT in half the box, which would be perfect - I did love what the LT could do, but with the need to have the synth pedals too, it made it too big. Seems that after getting a big jump on the competition with the helix, they are slipping back a bit.

I do like that as a look (apart from not play 4 strings), although the price would be a 'you *** kidding me?'! -
I don't need that many effects, although I have often wanted a 7th switchable! I think if I was playing the guitar the Plethora would be more interesting to me, I would be using more modulations, and then maybe a plethora and a stomp would work where I would just be using the stomp for distortion / overdrive and eqs. I would be unhappy if my HX died. I do worry about that one, as every 4th time or so I turn it on it says 'firmware failure', but then I turn it off and on again (I am a professional, I know the tricks!) and it works fine. I had a Helix LT, but that was too big for me - although if I was, as is my dream, gigging with the chapman stick, it would be ideal. I don't actually undertstand why the plethora doesn't do distortions - I mean in my last band I started with a TCBG250 combo that had toneprints, and that had distortion.

I would say that most basses from most manufacturers look a bit like a fender. Even the foderas being discussed here look pretty fendery, I would say that most of my basses sort of look a bit like fenders while only one of them actually is a fender, and that is a mustang.
