And harley benton do amps!
-
Second gig of the weekend and god were my fingers feeling it. I had to play some songs with a pick just so I could save some use for later. So a village pub not too far, normally not busy. Got there, they showed us the alcove we were playing in and in conversation it popped up as 'you could play outside if you want', so we did. Thought it would be pretty empty, but when we started soundcheck people started pouring from everywhere, it was heaving (although not as close as yesterday). Apart from the finger thing, I had a problem with the amp / pedals / whatever, just couldn't get much volume for some reason, swapped the speaker leads round, tried the amp at full, hardly any volume, fiddled with the board and then something happened and all was good, but it unsettled me a bit. But after that all was good, played until the latest we could (had a curfew outside), every seemed to enjoy it a lot. If this is what post covid gigging is like, I am impressed, seems like everyone really wants to have a good time.

I watched youtube and found a good tutorial on correct under-over lead wrapping, so took my leads out, wrapped them. Did a gig, took them out, put them back in rewrapping them (although the first couple i completely forgot how to do it) and it seems neater so far.

it was the Pall Tavern in Yeovil. A pub I had never been in - I think the previous landlord went to prison! It is a very different place now. Also, I think it is one of the first gigs in town as as well as all the regulars from other pubs, we saw the staff from some of the other pubs and ex landlady of one of the closed ones

OK, so just back, ears ringing slightly. This gig was a test case for the new landlords at a pub that was never a music pub to see if they could do groups. I think they will do groups - it was absolutely heaving. Apart from any covid concerns it was pretty well like any very busy gig before the pandemic, chaotic, busy, people were close to each other, hugging and dancing and trying to get in our space too. Everyone seemed to be having a good time, especially the landlady. I suspect that was the first of many there. Easy load in from the road a couple of foot from the back door, not a bad layout.

Gig tonight, a little worried. Although we have done two gigs so far, this is the first one that is indoors in a pub. And there is one tomorrow too.

I always do, never had an issue.

My turquose bass and its strap are on page 3 of this thread. I did consider white but I really wanted something closer.

I find it a real pain they still haven't made a EHB1505sms yet - just seems crazy to spend a grand on a bass knowing you have to throw the pickups away and get some nords (or whatever)!
-
If you are putting on a white bass, you can do them both at the same time
-
Could do that either but clearly easier with a pick.

KISS kick Dave Lee Roth off the farewell tour

Yeh, but he was great in the movie Runaway wasn't he -
Musik Productiv were one of the first EU big shops to collect UK vat. Most of the large shops now won't be a hassle at all. The only tricky ones will be small shops and individuals, its the only people it really impacts now.

I have medium gauge (in face probably over - 50-100) on my mustang -
Love the old Yamaha SGs, great find.

I hold mine like it is the last pick on earth and if I drop it there won't be another one. And tbh, half the time my pick playing doesn't involve the pick, it uses my thumbnail as a pick!
-
I don"t really like playing with a plectrum, but I can do it way faster. Physically my second finger cannot keep up with my first, and to play with a pick you are getting two notes for every one with a finger, so it is always going to be faster for me (talking on one string)

Genesis / Steve Hackett Manchester Fri 24th Sept
Woodinblack replied to 4000's topic in General Discussion
Oh Nad? No I am not a great fan of him, but once the thing is started its ok. Most people I think, but seemingly not Steve Hacket! To be fair his singing isn't that bad Because Phil Collins can't sing the songs any more, and he can't drum. Nad would sound better doing them. I assume that the other two can do it, so the keys and guitars are fine although obviously they were never as good with the guitar as Steve Hacket anyway. And I was given trick of the tail when I was 13 and it is still one of my favourite albums, I know that genesis probably wouldn't do it but just as well, i wouldn't want to hear it butchered. -

bittersweet why? I loved the Hacket shows I have seen, they are really well done. -
Could probably do it with a plectrum but there is no way my fingers move that quick for finger style

Yes, that would have made more sense if he took his vocal but the band did the other parts.
