I am not sure that anyone really has issues with the inlays, there are a lot of people customising theirs, mine are standard as they are fine. Its a matter of preference. Pickups also, it depends on what you want. I am not a fan of the barts particularly, but it is a choice. My only non standard bits (although mine is a 1505) are the knobs and the jack socket mods, because I fancied metal knobs and I don't like locking mods.

John Entwistle or Chris Squire, who do you prefer and why?

Only 20%, I would have thought it should have been more than that! -

I think of it also as contract. If you pay to go to see a group, if one of them dies, you contractually can't complete that tour, its not possible. If for instance it was a solo artist in the name, and one of them died, that would be different, as long as it wasn't the solo artist. So for instance, When Entwhistle died, they continued the tour. If I had been going to see it (which obviously I wouldn't) the only part I would have wanted to see would be him so I wouldn't get what I paid for, but to cancel would leave me out of pocket. I am sure whoever they got to replace him could do the job. But on their subsequent tour, I would have bought those tickets in full knowledge of who I would see, so at that point I would get what I paid for. I mean this is rock and roll, lets not try and con ourself that whatever group we like you couldn't get another entirely different group of musicians to form a group that would sound exactly like those people so that you wouldn't be able to tell at a gig it wasn't them. Its the personalities you are going to see. -
Which is probably why we see a lot of 'band called off and can you play on saturday' posts in our local area Hope to be better by our next gig on saturday (although I feel fine - I will test closer to the time)

Couple of months is fine, and also they were a young group and I think it is very different at that stage. Scandalised? Why does everyone go from 0 to drama queen these days? Who the hell is scandalised? Noone is telling anyone anything, they are providing an opinion which is kind of what a forum for. -
My daughter works for a company that imports a lot of japanese stuff, and they have the same problem, nothing being imported from japan at the moment.

I have one as a replacement in an ibanez 5005 as the preamp was half dead. Its been a pretty good replacement, it is quiet and versatile. I am pretty happy with it.

Probably mostly his own. In my book, someone dies in the band, tour is off, there isn't really much of an option beyond that. On the OP, its only later (in fact after this thread started) that I really got to hear some of entwhistles lines, as I had to do who covers. I still don't like the Who, but some of the bass lines are fun to do. -
I thought the FI was great, and very powerful, but for a gigging situation, the only one on my board is the SY200

Changing Impedence like Audere does in their onboard preamp
Woodinblack replied to Owen's topic in Repairs and Technical
But pretty hard to work out as you would also need the r / c network of the lead and amplifier input for the given amplifier. All in all I am not sure what you would be gaining for any of this compared to one pre-amp with a bass boost! -
I guess that base wood seems a bit light for walnut, it was around the time they were doing them. Must be just a mudburst!
-
I cancelled a practice for the first time due to covid, but the advantage is, the next gig isnt until next week, so hopefully should be free by then!

Isnt that one of the late 70s walnut P Basses? The bodies later on went on to be the first used in the P Bass ultras / ultra IIs at the end of the 70s

To be the pedant, the pickup sees the vol as max 500k or less, with the 1M resistor (assuming you have not plugged the other side of the pot into something) and you are just measuring with a theoretical infinite measuring tool. -
Nighmare. Glad our singer is good at dealing with those guys. The last gig I had there was a drunk guy who wanted to play the drum kit, he was trying to crash through and I said 'look, I am still trying to set up and there are leads everywhere which I need to sort out so can you come back later' and he looked at me and said 'that was the nicest f*** off I have ever had' and wandered off quite happy.

Seems to be variably priced, shame I missed this earlier, it is now on offer for £119, reduced from 150. I guess I will wait for the next reduction! -
Jazz bass - passive or active?? Sire V7 owners thoughts are wlecome...
Woodinblack replied to carlsim's topic in Bass Guitars
Its odd that there is noone that ships them, even if they don't ship themselves. If all you want is a bass boost, is it important the method it uses to provide that? I mean does it have to be impedance switching, can it not just be a bass boost, which pretty well any preamp does? -

the answer is not no, the answer to the question "can the impedance switching be done in a passive circuit is no". It could be done actively. -

Not in a passive thing. Well, I guess you could have two volume pots and a switch between them, although it would still depend on what the impedance of your amp was, and you would have to have 2 redundant volumes, which doesn't sound like a great idea. I suppose it could be a custom dual gang hand made pot, with a swtich between them, and then being careful that you picked the right amp (and get rid of the tone). Basically not practical. -
I blame everyone on here for my purchase of one. However, I can say that unlike some of the other things I have got just from being here, there are no regrets with the ABM.

It was for me the first couple of times I went there, I assumed they were shut.

Where do you even get Auderes from around here? -
Problem with Blend control on Jazz bass.
Woodinblack replied to squire5's topic in Repairs and Technical
If you use two bolts on the pot, one below and one above, you can make sure the minimum amount of the control is above and it will fit better. -

Woodinblack replied to carlsim's topic in Bass Guitars
TBH - can't you just not use the controls at all? Almost all of my basses are active, but I never really need to fiddle with the controls, apart from the volume and balance -
