  1. As a separate asside, I hate blue LEDs, and wish they had never come out. I know they are useful, but they are always too blinding. Red / orange / yellow / green, I was happy with htose.
  2. Why would you think that? I have avoided singing for ages as I hate my voice, but doesn't everyone. As it is, from doing all the backing vocals I now do a few songs in ranges the singer can't do, and although I felt really self confident about them, that is just in my head. At the gig at the weekend, one of the ones I do is surfin' usa, and looking at the crowd, they were dancing, and doing stupid surfing impressions etc, and enjoying themselves. They weren't standing there looking at me thinking what terrible singing that was, and even if they did, it didn't seem to stop them enjoying it, so maybe its better to not overthink iit!
  3. OK, got mine now. Fairly heavy thing. So I tried it and wasn't impressed. Then I turned the volume up! It goes actually pretty loud doesn't it! I mean just to the air even without it being on your back. I had a quick noodle with it and it certainly vibrates on the B-D strings, really strongly on the b, which is good as obviously by then the sound is dissapearing in IEMs. Obviously not enough to form a big opinion on, and a bit dissapointing that it didn't come on saturday so I could have gigged it, but there is another gig next saturday and as I am not doing the sound for that, should be useful.
  4. Tuners. I have switched to an ABM600 (and I also have a CTM100), but I really miss the tuner on the TC450, which is why I often take it to practice. Yes, my helix HXFX has a tuner and there are clip on tuners, but the amp is always there, and would be such a simple thing to add. Plus often the guitarist checks when he forgets what key we are in! Suppose I should ask ashdown. Or maybe drill a hole on the front and put some pulled apart clip on tuner. Just got one that cost a tenner, not too much on the scheme of an amplifier, certainly more use than a VU meter.
  5. I think that is a bit harsh. I used to work with an electronics company in the 80s that made CCD pipe inspection cameras. They were the state of the art, however they had quite a high failure rate, and that is because that was the state of the art. When we first started we had to have a gold bonding machine to connect the CCDs to the package. Of course, we could have not used any component without a fully proven reliability record, in which case we would have been sticking a kid with a notebook into a sewer, there weren't other options. Some companies are using componants that have just come out, most of the time everything is fine, but not every company can just sit that far behind the curve. In this case (and I know nothing about it), it doesn't seem unreasonable to select some LEDs to do a job and then find that 3 years later they are breaking down, if you then try to remedy the situation - that is how manufacturing is. Especially when that is not a critical part as in this case. You would not expect them to be failing, and 99.9% of the time you would be right.
  6. What phone is this on? This is on my iPhone (XS)
  7. I think I also play harder if I am standing up, so although at practices I am standing up, I am not at home.
  8. Also this is the first chance I got to try the stuff I bought in lockdown. Ibanez 1505ms - absolutely fantastic, couldn't fault it, although it did sound a bit bassy, maybe need new strings. Squier CV Mustang - absolutely fantastic, but maybe not bassy enough Behringer 12" sub - certainly added to the drums and with that we seemed to have the best sound we had, so I guess it is doing its job. Ashdown ABM600 - loved the sound, haven't really explored the EQ options, but in its first time live the DI lead felt a bit loose, thought it was a plug I had fixed badly but no, one screw has come off of the DI socket, and the other was loose, so it is flapping around. XVive u4 - needed a better setup but worked almost flawlessly, even though I was a long way from the mixer where it was.
  9. Oh thats the other thing I noticed. Although I hadn't gigged since last march, I practiced regularly, so it was quite a shock to the memory how much your fingers hurt after 3 hours when you hadn't been gigging for a while!
  10. I would say as it happens with multiple basses and multiple cabs, the only common thing you have is the amplifier. Any chance of recording the crack sound?
  11. Its just nice to get the band back together as a starting point!
  12. Brilliant night, great to be back. Resurrected the gig thread in honour of it
  13. This thread is like a time capsule, it stopped when Covid hit, so I thought well, I would continue the other side (hopefully). Yesterday, after much faffing, we had our first gig since probably the one reported on here in march 2020. It was for a family that just take a complete campsite over to have a birthday party. Turned up to setup expecting like what we had a few years ago, a makeshift stage at the bottom of the field, but no, it was a full marque with a wooden stage part, very impressed. 6-9 with a 20 minute break. We had rehearsed enough songs for 3 hours. Seemed a bit stiff at the start and we made a few mistakes here and there, but the crowd enjoyed it and I really enjoyed it after a couple of songs trying to get relaxed. The guitarist said it was the best bass tone I have had. Same 2 TC 1x12 speakers but the ashdown ABM600 and Ibanez EHB1505ms doing their first gig (and the squier mustang for a few songs). Also I used the SY-1 more than I have before (including an impromptu happy birthday on holiday camp organ sound!). It has to be said the band sound was good overall - I also used a behringer sub I got as a b-stock and that really helps with the drums. Suffice to say we ran out of songs as the songs are faster gigging than practicing and had to rapidly search our lists to remember songs we hadn't played for the year, and my fingers aren't going to be doing anything today - its not the same gigging as practicing is it! Really happy though, can't wait for the next one.
  14. First gig since march 2020. We have had to cancel the last gig because the singers son had covid, and the 2 before that because the guitarist was taken ill just before the gig, and the gig in the middle of lockdown due to rain. Only an hour before I go and set up, so lets hope nothing happens in that time!
  15. Yes, Take some time, sit down, concentrate and just learn Sir Duke!
  16. You would be ok in the US, but in the UK doesn't that give you a nasty 10Hz beat frequency?
  17. How do you tell if one you have is the revised model - are there any outward signs?
  18. Oh yes, it won't be like the classic, and someone will make a boutique hand wired one in about 5 years for a few grand! I will wait for the future impact mini!
  19. That would have been cool, would like to hear 'don't like mondays' done by her.
  20. Ooh - Osborne effect time! Will wait and see what comes out then (or get a cheaper one when everyone upgrades)
  21. Me too. Not all of them, only 5 or so have their own strap, so that should cover it. Oh, then how do you fit it to the chapman stick?!
  22. Orange is a banned colour in my house, my wife has a pasionate hatred of orange! The only thing of those that really concern me are the connection to a strap. I don't have the same strap on every bass (I don't even have the same strap type on every bass, I have a combination of dunlop and shaller straps), and all the reviews say it is not something you can put on and off. But it is screwed in, so maybe I can make an attachment to different straps. I would however hate it to knock our my friends, I have a headstock for that purpose!
  23. I did think maybe it was better waiting for a second version, but if it does what I want now then it wasn't an issue. I saw a long term review and a gig review on youtube and saw what people were saying were the good sides and the bad sides, and to be honest, the downsides weren't something I would have been concerned about. I saw the silver, it was a bit "obvious big metal box" for me, I can't imagine it would be that popular unless you had a white bass with a white strap. Or maybe it is like that (Unpainted) so you can paint it to match whatever colour you want, so I could have a turquoise one!
  24. Sounds good. Seems like a good answer to a problem I have had. Will report back when I have had it and had a chance to do a gig with it, which will hopefully coincide next weekend!
