Do I tell the rest of the band...or keep it to myself?
Woodinblack replied to gjones's topic in General Discussion
I am not sure what not letting everyone know the bands plans is going to help. Surely those things need to be discussed as a band so everyone knows? -
Take the ugliness of the ric controls and graft them on to the ugly body of a telecaster, and you are really onto a winner!

Genesis / Steve Hackett Manchester Fri 24th Sept
Woodinblack replied to 4000's topic in General Discussion
So what was the problem with it? I know quite a few people who went to other gigs and were impressed. -
Playing songs in a covers band you dont always like.?
Woodinblack replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
There is a lot of acoustic stuff round here at the moment, I know quite a lot of people in those sort of groups now. Its not for me but probably good for people who like that kind of thing. -
Playing songs in a covers band you dont always like.?
Woodinblack replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
I play whatever is fun to play, whatever I like to play and some songs that are neither fun or I particulary like that the crowd like (like sex on fire). The ones I normally don't like are the ones we play badly, in that I would rather not play something at all than play it badly. There are a few things that I wont play and that is fine because we have no real style, so we have all the songs the whole of the last 60 years to pick from so there is no real issue apart from drunk people in pubs calling for some of them, but then they can just blame me and we carry on. -
I had an ibanez ric copy when I first started, loved that bass, but it got nicked. Had a rockinbetter, actually had two, they are good but the bridges aren't great and you can't replace them with anything else as it would mess the scale up.

Squier Classic Vibe 50's Precision Bass - NBD/Review. Astounding.
Woodinblack replied to funkle's topic in Bass Guitars
Why not go back to the bog standard squier pickup, put a bit of copper shielding in the cavities, tie it to earth and avoid tvs and florescent tubes? -
Digital mixer choices - Behringer XR18, RCF M18
Woodinblack replied to lemmywinks's topic in Accessories and Misc
I have used an X18 mixer for our band for the past 4 years, before that an XR16. The other day a friend asked me to do the sound for their gig, so I went along and they had a manual mixer. It was really hard getting round the limitations of it going back, I certainly wouldn't want to do that for myself! -
So that is what you were saying before - when in series, C2 is parallel with the bottom coil, making a tuned circuit giving you a big boost at a certain frequency, the certain frequency depending on what the inductance of the coil is, I am guessing from the sound demos some mid range frequency.

Nordstrand Big Singles. Any users? What bass did you put them in?
Woodinblack replied to fretmeister's topic in Bass Guitars
I think if he wanted to go for it he would have done so 9 years ago when this was posted! -
Rickysounds.co.uk bank transfer?
Woodinblack replied to THISISDINOSAUR's topic in General Discussion
hahah - I would never keep a sticker on anything, but would find it very difficult to get upset what someone else did on their own bass! -
They are mormons though aren't they? Not that I am saying you shouldn't burn your Osmonds records anyway (apart from of course Crazy horses)

The spalted one with the EMGs? Oh you wont regret that one at all, I found it really comfortable to play at the bash but sitting in a chair at home it is even better. I will gig this the next time we gig, it sounds a lot bigger than it looks.

Maybe he was never paid enough for new strings?

What is the problem you have with the preamp now that you are trying to fix? The preamp in the EHB seems fine to me, other than it being the other way round to my john east in my shuker. And if all you want is a treble cut you could just wire up a tone control and just have the preamp flat?

On Sunday I took a trip down to what is becoming for me, a standard bass trading place, which is IKEA (in Bristol this time, rather than Exeter as it was last time). This was to meet up and pickup this bass that I had played at the South West bass show, one of @Jabba_the_guts fantastic little basses. Fell in love with these things a few bass bashes ago and finally have one. I am sure most people have seen them unless they don't go into the makers threads, or the short scale thread where I posted it, and if not, there is a link at the bottom of its birth, as well as some much better pictures! This is so fun to play and also easy to use in the house as they are so small (27" scale). It sounds very full and bassy, with single / parallel series switch. And of course LEDs, with two options, very bright or OMG I think i have gone blind Heres the other pictures of it, and its creation thread.

The optimal size is long as they need to be and as short as you can get away with. Luckily with XLRs you can chain them anyway - I have some 20M speaker ones, but a whole load of other cables that are shorter, and if I am closer to the speakers, I will use the shortest that I can. Not necessarily for electrical reasons, although that helps, more for lack of trip hazzard reasons!

There are people who do both loud stage and acoustic setups, and I have heard that there are people that only have one amp, seems not so useful if they have to buy another amp just for the quieter use if it is avoidable. My TC450 I could use on stage and in my bedroom, I know that is different as it is a class D, but it would be good if the ABM600 was like that.
