  1. 2.5k log pots would be the right ones to use, so I suspect as they sent you that value (which would be unusual in any other bass) it is the correct type. There is a capacitor and resistor wired directly across the terminals of the volume, I assume if you replaced the pot these are back in place?
  2. Maybe I should have also said Pm'd yesterday at 10?! But he seems to have done a runner now! But thinking about it I will pull out and let others have a shot
  3. Certainly possible, I am guessing there isn't a big enough market of people who think it is a problem. I kind of like the offset thing, especially on an offset bass Or you could get a 6 string P pickup and just have it sticking out at the end, would that be better?
  4. Hardly! Take off and nuke the site from orbit, its the only way to be sure.
  5. Hang out outside for a few minutes and listen to see if they are playing wonderwall!
  6. Its just the Dog and Ducks near Ubits area, all the other ones are fine!
  7. I like it quite a lot. The strings are a bit looser than I would like, it is head heavy as hell, the neck is quite thick, the knobs and controls are cheap (so cheap that the tone control wiring actually came off the pot), the J hums a bit with any interference. But apart from all that, it sounds great, its fun to play I kind of like the look, it is solidly built (wiring aside) and it costs next to nothing! of all that, I will replace the pots and knobs, and it would be nice if something could be done about the neck dive, but the rest isn't an issue
  8. Well, about a year after ordering one and cancelling it as it was going to take a long time, I hadn't got round to reordering. In fact I wasn't going to reorder as I got a 5 string Talman short scale bass, so all taken. Then a surf green one popped up locally for £250, new condition. I thought about offering less, but I didn't. Then a week later it went to 225, so what the hell, so yesterday I went there and picked it up. It really is as new, it had the stickers and the tag on the neck and not a mark on it. I have had older looking new ones (so new my wife made me look in up as she was convinced it was nicked, but he was a guitarist). Played it a fair bit last night, its a fun thing, plays well. It doesn't have some of the loose ends that I have read about in places, like the bad neck heel. The only real complaint is that the pickup seems a bit microphonic. I have a feeling something like flats would be good for it, and of course a perloid pickguard!
  9. So for your enjoyment you go into a pub to play songs you don't like for people, or is this a job? Because if that was my only option then I would just get together with some mates and play songs I wanted and do free gigs without charging. What I find increadable is that according to this thread, where several posters live apparently even though we have had 70 years of Pop music charts, which must be many thousands of songs, there aren't 30 songs people can find to play that people would enjoy without playing oasis. Strangely, my band, and the band before it, and the band we are putting together at the moment (the last two not by my choice) manage to fit into this most rare 'don't play any oasis numbers' niche. And somehow we get invited back month after month. I am so glad I don't live in your areas where bands are only allowed in if they are playing certain songs. Luckily in my area, the cover bands can all do different popular songs, so have some kind of individuality. I am sure some of them do oasis (well, they must, there is an oasis tribute band around here) although I can only think of one that I have seen that did. I guess this is a very niche area.
  10. Yes, thats whats good. So we tend to put a ska twist on things, so we do Timber (pitbul / ke$ha), but do it as a ska song. Our brown eyed girls that we do is also ska'd. I don't mind playing anything if it is fun to do
  11. In my last group, the guitarist would do a couple of his own acoustic songs as the start to the second half, so we would sit it out until it was over
  12. I was haha - we do highway to hell. Gives me time to do my nails. And Alright now.
  13. Not particularly, but it happens! I suppose its better than drunk women falling over the PA.
  14. I wasn't, I am just saying what I will do, but apparently it seems gives you and others the right to pass judgement how I am allowed to entertain my punters and now not playing oasis is a 'niche', jesus get a grip!
  15. Why? This isn't the day job, this is what I do for entertainment. When I joined my current band it was obvious that my opinion was less important than others on things - fair enough, but I wanted a line in the sand of what I wouldn't do. Oasis was it for me (and seems for other people). I have to play lots of songs I don't like, I play several songs I hate, but I am not playing oasis. I have played with my current band for over 150 gigs including one pub where we have played ever month. Many times people have called out for wonderwall, almost like its a joke now, but they know it is not happening. So no, I don't have to, no 'end of story' thanks very much!
  16. It makes my skin crawl. Loads of drunk blokes spilling beer everywhere and singing a soulless mindless song at the top of their completely out of tune voice. Absolutely hate it. Its a situation I would have to leave, which is tricky if you are in the band. I hate oasis with a passion, and always have (their music, although I can't say I am a fan of them either), just something in the simplicity and the whining vocals that to me is like nails down a blackboard (except I don't actually have a problem with nails down a blackboard). It makes me irrationally angry, in the same was as eating noises do.
  17. Literally that makes me happier than you could imagine to miss out. The one thing that would make me want to stop gigging is a group of drunk blokes screaming wonderwall at the top of their voice. We do sex on fire as it is, and I never understood peoples love for that, but no to oasis.
  18. I would like to point out there is nothing recent about my hatred of Oasis!
  19. Yes, clearly. Or maybe you are expecting something different. I have been lucky with all my experiences, but TBH, I haven't been to many and I learned how to do the fret dressing myself. No, I am a guy who calls himself a 'software engineer' and it doesn't bother me anywhere near as much as it ssems to bother you. I have never been ripped off by the gallery, I have only been there once, they seemed friendly enough. However, if I did have a bad experience I would start a thread 'Bass Gallery setup poor, anyone else', rather than jumping in on an old thread to tell everyone that every luthier in the world was bad. And frankly, what is an opinion worth if you think everything is bad? Other people have good experiences which you are telling them can't happen. I am not responsible for your moods or feelings, that is entirely down to you, as I said I don't 'want to make you angry' or 'make you feel' as such an expert as you on human psycolgy I am sure understands. I litterally don't care if you are angry or not, you are just some bloke on the internet.
  20. And that makes you a troll - you come in here, saying all luthiers are conmen and that your experience trumps everyone elses experience. You alone know how people operate. You of course are wrong there. Clearly we know you are angry, you have come in here digging up a long dead thread so you can have a rant about a company you feel wronged you, a company many use and are happy with. I doubt many in here care if the response made you angrier or not. Ooh, a band of psycopaths, even better, well mansplained. Wrong, but still appreciate the effort. But hating everyone because you went to couple of people is a good idea? I would say with your attitude I can see why people aren't bending over backwards to help you.
  21. Im puzzled why you thought it should take more than a few days to level the frets. If you are constantly doing it you can get it done quite quickly (not me, takes me hours). Even stainless ones.
  22. Have they gone up that much then? I certainly wouldn't go north of £500, and absolutely not in that condition.
  23. Id never heard that, and we had a grey cortina! Well, Silver Fox i think it was called.
