Rotary switch for series/parallel/single-coil?
Woodinblack replied to mcnach's topic in General Discussion
Yes, that is the right electrical type, but the shaft is a 'solid with a flat bit taken out', which is common on electronics, and uncommon on guitars / basses. Sometimes important to look at that if you want the same knobs I would also only have a make before break in a guitar wiring application if I had a choice, to avoid massive pop noises. It doesn't matter if you short two coils together or one to ground, as long as you don't disconnect and reconnect. However, I suspect you have little choice in options -
Rotary switch for series/parallel/single-coil?
Woodinblack replied to mcnach's topic in General Discussion
Its quite an easy mod. rotary switches are generally organised in poles and throws, and generally they have up to 12 positions. If you only want 3, that means you can get a 4 pole switch (sometimes in the guitar world called a channel) that will give you more than enough for this. The main issue is getting one with the same shaft dimensions as your pots (presumably the serated type) -
The poplar burl overwater 5, but sadly it was one of those non communicating buyers or I would have bought it.

Ibanez SR2600 Premium Bass, Cerulean Blue Burst Sell (Sold)

This question was answered about 2 weeks ago. Since then it has got steadily less and less clear with every continuous post. I guess it was lucky we weren't discussing signal to noise, or that would be ironic!

Never sounded fresh to me - certainly loose and obviously no autotune, he hardly ever gets near a note!- 194 replies

What are you listening to right now?
Woodinblack replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
one of our set list -
Indeed - the stereo effects are notably more involving and more in depth than the same effect in mono, which is where i am seeing the difference in the two devices. The 'stereo' chorus I was listening to sounded the same on the B1/four in headphones and through a speaker, the B3N sounded different, so yes I can see if you set up the effect you wanted in stereo you might be persuaded to turn it down a bit to make it more subtle, and lose it entirely in mono. That is a good point, maybe i might just record the same sound through a mono and stereo output and see what the difference is.
-
I don't need stereo either, but most keyboards, even some of the mono ones have stereo outputs, and I would suspect some of those live must be wired stereo. There was a performance from the RAH yesterday where the presenter said that the system was being run in quadrophonic sound. Obviously that wasn't a standard band tour

This is true, it has a better build quality in general, and you can have more patches, although some of the patches in the B3N take two slots instead of 1, is that the saem in the B1/4? Is that pedals that are more flappy, or a greater quantity of pedals of an equal flappyness ? The pedals on the B1/four are bigger, in fact, so much so I would imagine the b1/4 has a larger totaly flappy area! Well, the only way to find out would be to either ask someone who knows or to take one apart. I was only guessing, I have no knowledge, and I am not sure if I feel like taking them apart at the moment. There appears to be no take apart video on youtube - kids of today, what the hell are they waiting for?? However, if it had the same chipset, why would it have fewer memories?

Ah, gotcha. Well, I don't think it is hypocracy, rather than legality. That damn EU with all their intefering ways said we had to have a choice. I am not sure if they said what to do if the choice was no -
Well, yes. I had a shoulder / rotator cuff problem last year which got in the way a bit. Went to physio and just before lockdown it was starting to get better, they then swapped me to a new physio who I didn't get on with, and as because the world was heading lockdownward it was a good time to say I was cured. Mostly went away but in the last few months it has flared up to the point it wakes me up in pain. I have started doing exersizes, and hope it goes away as my group does 3 hour gigs, and I have another two groups to practice with.

I went there too, sadly I also clicked on the accept all button which enabled me to see that squier had released a shell pink bass VI. I didn't need to know that Very nicely laid out site (apart from that!) -

I mean, as virtually no online shop on the internet can work without cookies, do you not do any online shopping, and what are you doing on basschat? I see a virtual ton of session cookies, login cookies, timezone cookies going all the way back to april. -

I have an ibanez SA. Not great but not bad, not something I use much, and I also have a gibson and a few others, mostly I play the indie. Always wanted an RG, but not much poiunt when you dont play it much. And I do have a yamaha RG, which is a copy!

No it has a section on the stereo looper and also a few more quotes. I did check when I said it. Any stereo aux that comes in goes out to the headphones as stereo, so the output is certainly stereo from aux. However, I just checked a direct A/B between StereoBassCho* on both the B1/four and the B3n, and if the B1/four is stereo they have really masacred the output of that effect when they did it. I tried it on the B1/4 and it certainly didn't sound stereo (from my unscientific listening), then tried the same effect (both as default) on the B3n and it really sounds deep and wide, just like a stereo chorus. There is just a depth / rate / locut and mix controls on both and they are set to the same. If that really is stereo, they have screwed something up! And as previously mentioned, I don't care if it is stereo or not from my use, other than having got one, I wondered what the difference from the B1/Four and B3n. There is a cost difference, even now, I wondered what that difference is due to, an I am reckoning (without a scrap of proof!) that it doesn't have the same level of DSP processing that the B3N does. *Picked as it was the first stereo patch on the B1Four.

Shuker, ACG or Sei Basses for a custom build?
Woodinblack replied to PatrickJ's topic in Bass Guitars
When it comes to customs, it is easy to say "I want a ACG/Sei/Shuker" etc, but I find it helpful (like tattoos) to pick the luthier from the stye of work they do being what you want. Of course they could all do anything, but they have their strengths. I have a Shuker Uberhorn and I have had an ACG Recurve (and looked into an alpher), but the thing is, they are not that much like each other. Although you can customise what you want, change string spacing, wood types etc, ultimately a shuker mostly looks like a shuker and an ACG mostly looks like an ACG. I would happily have either in a heartbeat if I could afford it (and there is a 32" headlace salace that was calling me on the latter), but I find it a lot easier to look at what they have done (they all have pages of their previous creations), and find something you do like as a starting point. -

Indeed, if you scroll back you will read the part that says 'unlike the B3n that mentions it'. There is no doubt the B3n does stereo. But thanks anyway!
-
I guess I might use that occasionally but probably not so much around the house. i use the Spark for headphone practice which has the ipad via bluetooth and is conveniently by my chair. That is certainly stereo, but it also has dual speakers so it does that too. The B1-four would be handy for a quick jam on I guess, but not if it also has to have another cable to the iphone (and live I have the helix FX)
-
well, that is the advantages with racks in general - there is a hell of a lot of choice, and used rack stuff is so cheap. I am often drawn to it down the cost and flexibility but then there is the size etc.
-
This was a guitarist with a full rack thing (excellent young guitarist), stereo rack guitar effects, the graphic and rack pa amp. if you have already decided to go to the rack route it opens up a lot of options
-
I wasn't taking it as rude, I just assume it wasn't and I can't try it at the moment! I mean I am not bothered anyways, mine would never be used stereo anyway, but just interested now.
