Getting too comfortable with 16.5 string spacing
Woodinblack replied to adriansmith247's topic in Bass Guitars
Same here - on the 'what do you do if you turn up at a place and someone gives you a P bass to play', then yes, of course I would play it, and it would be fine. Seeing as I was obviously not expecting to play anything obviously they are presumably not expecting a virtuoso performance, so it will be fine. But at home I have other basses that I prefer to play so it wouldn't get played, so what is the point of buying it? -

Yes, I agreed, more versatile, but better? I mean when you get a concert violinist whos left their stradavarius at home and borrows one from the local school and doesn't sound as good, does that mean they are not a good violinist? I mean, that jaco was a rubbish bass player, I never saw him playing a dingwall! -

Certainly makes you more versatile - does it make you better? -

Hardly a minor difference, it's almost 50% more. In your example it is like getting in my car and the pedals are now 4 foot away. in reality it is more like playing a mini key keyboards vs a full size one. Obviously, I could play both, but if I want to do something fast or intricate it is going to fall apart on the mini keys, it's why they don't have them in concerts. I can go from 15 to 18 pretty well without problem, although 18 is pushing it, but a 19mm 5 string frankly is no fun to play. Yes, I could play it but if there was anything else there to play it would get played instead, so it would be useless to me. so yeh, I wouldn't buy one because I know I would just end up selling it. -

No, but you could just tag him on here. The one I had worked fine -
Why so many short scale basses at the moment?

Lovely, but first rule of the SS club, don't call it the SS club -
I love the look of these too - can't get on with the spacing on the 5 string or I would have one!

It is a bit poor! The neck is very different from most of them I have had, and the ones I currently have - a lot more P bass'y. The dimensions are on the website: both 45mm width at nut, the sr 68mm by 24th free, the TMB 72 at the 20th (where they both end), makes sense the spacing is wider on the TMB at almost but not quite 18mm vs 16.5mm Front to back the TMB is 21.5mm at 1st and 24.5 at teh 12th, compared to 19.5mm and 21.5mm at the 12th on the SR, so way chunkier there and you can feel that, it reminds me more of the G&L2500 neck wise. I suppose it is similar to the ATK too. Neck access isn't bad, joins right near the top so even though it only has 20 frets you can reach them without too much trouble. My wife hated the colour on the website but it person she says its not such a bad shade of toothpaste. I think it looks better in person than the website shows. The pickups seem nice and clear - I was expecting noisier, but didn't hear anything on my brief try. The controls move well, although the knobs are cheaper than a cheap thing! -

They have had 4 top tens and 23 top 30s, so I guess so! Lullaby and love cats were both higher placed than Friday Im in love. -

And it turned up today. It was a pain, after deciding to get one, everyone was out of stock. Well, almost everyone, bax had one, and after my previous experience with them I thought I wouldn't use them again, and they had shipping with hermes so ditto, but it was also cheap at £193 inc vat and shipping. So what the hell, I did get my money back last time. Ordered it on the thursday night, a bit dismayed to look when I got the shipping on friday that it was currently in Holland, being shipped. But looked late friday night and it had cleared customs. Looked this morning adn it said delivery tommorow, now in bristol, looked half an hour ago and it said left outside, so I went outside and there it was! Luckily, because I don't want to have to deal with bax that much, it seems perfect, very unibanez neck, but seems really easy to play and sounds great (especially the b string). -

I would have thought now Disturbed for Sound of silence. People might be surprised that all their songs aren't that terrible! Wouldn't have thought that either of those are hugely unrepresentative of their other output. -
How long to wait for an eBay buyer to respond?
Woodinblack replied to Jakester's topic in General Discussion
Absolutely not true. Although I am (although if I am actually working I ignore most things), but I have friends who are the opposite and won't see something for days. ok, if I make an offer on something on ebay then I check if it is accepted, but in my time on there i have met a lot of people who dont. -

On here, maybe, not on eBay though -
I learn it in its original form, then after a while it drifts into something else and come to a version that we do.

I guess it depends what you mean 'expects'. I list something either for sale by courier or pickup (generally down to price I guess). If I have put something as pickup I realise it is not going to be as popular, and if someone wants to arrange a courier to pick it up I will help with that, but generally it is something I don't want to post, or dont want to ship or don't have anything to ship it in. I wouldn't 'expect' anyone to get a courier but I would tollerate it. On ebay I doubt that is the case -

Not sure what you mean there - noone expects anyone to arrange their own courier do they? -

I like those wilkinson ones, I have them on a couple of basses. What did it do to the balance? -

If you put an offer in, it lasts for a few days, so maybe he wasn't expecting you to accept straight away, or maybe he only has access during the week. Apart from a slight annoyance i wouldn't worry much for a few days, then after that I would step it up. -

I have a TMB35 inbound. I will probably be looking to change some things, but I guess I will see how I will get on with it when it turns up. But black hardware would be good. -
Was it a different gauge string? Just wondering if it sat lower in the nut than the previous one. Obviously that doesn't help your truss rod issues.

Spleeter. Isolating bass on audio recordings
Woodinblack replied to Woodinblack's topic in General Discussion
Turns out it is the same tool, the website is just a portal to it (as is the app). Pretty powerful thing really, I was looking on line for bass tabs for Skunk Anansies Twisted, and every one of them is wrong, as is the first few bass lessons I saw on it, and it is very clear by listening to the isolated bass. They all do the standard triplets on the vocal lines, when its just basically voice, bass and drums. What noone has right is that it isn't a triplet, and after hearing it isolated, it is quite clear it is. Its a pair of notes played after the beat, so it is like a triplet but with no note on the beat, so the last 2 of the triplet. Going to be useful!- 6 replies

Finally made a decision, yes, I would buy the squier mustang. Or the bronco. So I bought the TMB35
