The most hilariously bad song I have heard
Woodinblack replied to shoulderpet's topic in General Discussion
I suppose like all lists, that has some stupid entries. A lot of those tracks are just songs that it is clearly uncool to like than genuinely bad songs, Like for instance Rockstar by nickleback, the song that is almost worth liking because it is so trendy to hate. Yes, you could say it was the worst song ever made, but then it is 2xplatinum single and 4.5 million sales. However you spin that, it is not the worst song ever as clearly millions of people liked it enough to buy it. So according to those lists, its a worse song than anything by the shags or anything in this list so far? Barbie girl, yes, terrible but everyone knows it and it sold nearly 2 million singles, so that is worse than anything anyone on here has ever written? Ice Ice baby? A classic, everyone knows it. Agadoo.. Mr blobby.. ok fair cop. -

That really does sound like a Eurovision song, with a Eurovision video -
They look nice but the videos are a bit offputting!

An ideal pre-amp should be completely transparent, to the point where you should not be able to tell the difference between it being on and off when everything is flat, assuming you have good leads and a reasonable amplifier. What would be the advantage of the pre-amp having a 6dB gain, rather than, say, turning the volume up? It gives you a bass you can't switch to passive without changing your settings, or change basses live (like having a G&L!) I have never heard anyone complaining that the problem they had with the barts was because they are too quiet - the volume is fine on them, just that the pickups are a bit bland. I think if the EHBs had nords, I would have got one by now.

You think that is bad. They are in their 50s now and have to live with that -
Shameless plug, posted mine in the amps for sale!

Decided I might as well move on my Ashdown CTM-100. It works well and sounds glorious but I never really take it anywhere because it is heavy and I have to carry the PA and keys and basses etc, so it used to be too much for the car. Also at waist height on top of my cab in a small venue its not great with my big singles Anyway, all is in pretty good condition, it has a nick on one of the handles, and a bit of dust from sitting around. This is a Made in the UK one (I only just found out there were chinese), and it was hand made as this is the prototype that all others were made from, which is why it has different coloured knobs and a funny serial. I am not posting this though, its too much of a faff to post a valve amp of this weight and I am in no hurry. So local pickup (you can try it etc if you are here) or I can meet up or deliver reasonably locally. Just for sale, don't really want anything about from a 5 string bongo or a SY1000 synth Heres some pictures.

Hey you could start a whole thread with that! -
Oh yes, now I see the china thing - they had two, one at 549 which had madein the UK on the back and one at 499 with Made in china - that one seemed a lot tattier
-
Sounds terrible - wonder how it got in that condition? Also wonder if they are just going to take it back and ship it out to the next unsuspecting sucker. Reminds me to not get S/H stuff from andertons. If only there was one available within an hour and half drive of Torquay

I have ordered from them and haven't had any issues, but then I have also ordered from bax successfully a couple of times. Luck of the draw really, if the order goes smoothly and you don't ahve to deal with them all companies tend to be ok, its only when they need to do something it matters.

Do you have a supportive partner and is it important?
Woodinblack replied to Cat Burrito's topic in General Discussion
Mine is very supportive. In the last group she came to all our shows, but the current one, we do stupid 3 hour gigs in pubs she would rather not go with so she doesn't, but she is always interested. She has no problems with me buying things, beyond the roll of the eyes and a judgement on whether the new bass is ugly or not. Which is good, the non ugly basses live in the living room. She is a singer and we have been in groups together, but currently our last group just split up so we need to do another. -
My ric copy was nicked, otherwise I would have been happy to stick with that.

Interestingly, looking at the circuit diagram the 2 and 4 ohm are the same connection.
-
I didn't know that, I thought they were all done here. I know mine is UK - will have a look in it to see what its valves are, it was the original circuit, so I assume it is the diagram I have. Gotta take some pictures for selling anyway.
-
that's what the valves should be isn't it? That's what it says on the circuit diagram I have i didn't think any were made in China, I thought all the ctms were made here and the others made in China. Mine is the first, ie, not one of the first, the one the others are based on by some strange quirk of fate. never looked inside though Very, more than mine and that works! Aren't you just going to send it back?

Some VERY good news at last - live music back by the Spring?
Woodinblack replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
And... our next gig is off as the Singers son has tested positive and has to isolate. Hey ho. Maybe next year -
So 2 ECC82s, 2 ECC83s and 2 KT88s? I must admit, although I have the circuit diagram, I have never actually looked inside mine, as it just worked! Mind you, mine is pre-production so it could be different. Seems odd for a pre-owned, you think they would have at the very least turned it on

Not a fan I must say and it really doesn't suit him as it looks way too big.
-
The same, an ibanez Ric copy and an amp I made myself.

Ah, no, I don't know any of those sort of people! -

And you wouldn't know what sort of gig you were going to get until you got there! Thought about it.. still at a bit of a loss! -
It was very different, it was like another group. It was much more keys based, and had a far softer edge. It was the last maiden album I bought, the last time I saw them and I kind of lost interest in them then. Well, they didn't drop him because they got Bruce, they got bruce because he was holding the group back. When you are having to drop gigs because your singer isn't up to it when you are on the way up, you need to get a reliable singer. I saw di'anno last in the late 90s (saw him with maiden too), he was pretty good then.

I bumped into my drummer on friday, him and his friend were walking to another pub as their local pub had been closed because of the virus. So all their customers were going to the other pub
