  1. Most active electronics are done after the pickups are mixed together, so they are buffering the sound you would have anyway from the pickups in passive. However, with some preamps you can independently buffer each pickup and then mix them, which would change the loading and interaction between the pickups and change that scoop. The john east preamps do that, but most dont.
  2. Honestly after being locked down for a year, people would even go to a jazz festival. Well, once!
  3. For those who haven't already opened stuff up because they never had the problems we caused, yes. Still to be positive. Considering how monumentally badly we handed it at the start, I am impressed with the way things are going now. Maybe the government ran out of friends to organise it and had to use qualified people? Perish the thought
  4. BD takes VAT off non UK prices for new stuff, but there is no vat on second hand things. Only the UK charges double VAT on second hand items, I don't think there is another country that does it, so he won't have to pay anything else (apart from shipping / handling / having to cross the uk border backhanders etc).
  5. I have seen motorhead 7 or 8 times. They don't feature in the top 3 loudest gigs I have been to!
  6. A 5 in that red colour would be a lovely thing. Luckily I don't think they are the basses for me, and the scale is too big
  7. I guess that is a valid reason for you not playing a 5 - you feel you need a restriction on what you can do - can't imagine it is a common thing though, it would be like me wanting to play everything on the 26th fret on my shuker because I could, or using both ends of the piano when playing.
  8. Careful with that - you might get accused of being the most entitled person ever by suggesting a phone app.
  9. From the Jam, Weymouth. Obviously not a huge venue, but huge volume and I had forgotten earplugs. Listened from the halway after a while
  10. I quite enjoyed that, but I was having a good time. There were a few in my youth I don't really remember, but I generally hang around even if it is crp unless I had somewhere else to be. I would have said Guns and Roses (twice - sucker for punishment), but to be fair, first time after starting an hour late, he finished after a few songs because the audience weren't revering him enough. Second time I managed to beat him, they were awful. Recently though, Gary Numan at the O2 Bristol. Don't get me wrong, he was fine, but the venue was so over capacity I didn't feel safe and I certainly didn't feel comfortable enough to enjoy the music. Really, had there been a fire, at least half the audience wouldn't have had any chance.
  11. My 5 had the profile of an ibanez sr1605, which is an ibanez premium (which obviously has rods). I doubt the mzk does, as I didn't specify it, but it hasn't caused issues. I had to drill the remnants of the screw out of the back of the bass when I went to remove the strap lock as it just sheared. Since then I have replaced the other structural screws as I don't trust them. I have to be careful stringing it to make sure that I go from top to bottom so that there is enough of a break angle for the high strings (must get a tie down thing at some point). Other than that, I have changed the P pickup - there wasn't anything wrong with the original (which I specified) but I got a deal on a nordstrand which I prefered.
  12. We actually got asked this week if we would do a party at the end of july, for people we have done a party for before. We said most probably yes if we can, as it is an outdoor campsite.
  13. I would have no problem buying from the rest of the world, but currently wouldn't buy from the EU until everything had started flowing / not flowing again. I assume/hope at some point in the future it will once again not be easier/faster to get something from china thank from 30 miles across the channel, regardless of costs. Yes, you now pay VAT on second hand items, which means that vat is double charged on an item for whatever reason - that snuck in undercover of the same time as brexit, it isn't part of the brexit 'deal', it just turned up.
  14. I never knew that song. He is right, the live version is quite a lot faster than both of those. I really like Joe Jacksons version of that - the anthrax cover isn't bad either.
  15. I must admit it would be nice, beforehand people were asking for various options like 4 / 5 stirng, which I can understand, but now outside of the UK is no longer what it was. Or at least put a banner over the top pointing out that non UK basses now cost 20% more than the listed price.
  16. Comes from the italian, but we know you like your imperial measurements!
  17. As an OT aside, what is the relief on your lightest string (the high D in standard). I think mine is too low just because there isn't enough velocity to get any volume out of it!
  18. ah - ok. <walks slowly backwards out of the room>
  19. I didn't follow all that - my point was more that Al seems to think if you say humbucker you think of a MM pickup, whereas I don't. i only think of that if someone says an MM type pickup.
  20. Agreed - when someone says a humbucker I don't think of either a P or an MM type pickups, even though they both are.
  21. Obvs the aerodyne fender - it is aerodynamic innit?
  22. Ah - I am out, I don't use 2 fingers. But not as fast as I like. Can do something like hysteria and on the edge most of the time of hit me with your rhythm stick. But there are some patterns I can do a lot faster than others. Good question - I can do 2 notes at a huge BPM!
  23. Gibson use brass truss rod bots it would seem. Not sure if that is the reason
