    I picked up some of the dongle type ones (dongle on both sides) from aliexpress the other day, as I can't find the ones I used at home or for 'other band practice' (when I don't take the pedalboard). They were £30 so i thought I would give it a try to see if they are any good.

    Quite keen on giving the short scale version a try, even if it has the barts on it.

    I end up in that position quite a lot, then I the decision is too much and I get nothing. The only way to solve it is to go into a shop and try them - if one speaks to you, then go for that.

    Probably a bit below the averge price, not expensive, and in good condition not too bad. Goes in phases, at the moment they seem quite expensive, but gibson often have blowouts, and the end of season you can normally pick them up new for not far off that. In good condition then if you want one it is fine.

    I probably could if I took it apart, which I have never done. But I would be more likely to change the ibanez as I assume they are just pots on cables like all the other ibanezes. I actually can never remember which way round it is, but it is active all the time, so it isn't something i have to worry about. The Shuker is also switchless (apart from the pull bright thing).

    I meant a 5 string with 3 courses. I am not sure I would have the finger strength to hold down 5 strings at a time!

    You know the most irritating thing with the east and the EHB. On my two primary basses, the EHB and the shuker, they both have 4 knobs, vol, balance, bass/treble freq/boost. On the east the two last knobs are the opposite way round from the EHB!

    Exactly that. An 8 string is like the string with a harmonic, a 12 string is like a 12 string guitar, there is a shimmer and body caused by it never being quite the same note. It is actually quite different.

    Agreed but also because every time you want to do a prog band or something, someone wants to do that song, of which I am not a fan!

    As I said I am sure that replacing my volume controls on my TMB35 over the stock ibanez ones sounded better, even though I am well aware it should make no difference (they were the same value, albeit log rather than lin).

    Good, glad we got there in the end! Probably true if I had done that, yes. I replied to Dads comment that those two women were good to listened to, I said I didn't like them or opera. I didn't realise that a throw away comment about me not liking opera would be taken so OTT and personally by you and I am sorry as I appear to have offended you personally I know what classically trained singers do thanks, and there was no respect intended or implied in that. Wow. I guess lockdown really has been getting to people

    Huh? As I said, in my opinion I don't like operatic singing, so therefore in my opinion operatic singing is over singing. I would think that must be pretty obvious no?

    Of course it is from my opinion, when as stated, exactly no singing is the right amount!

    Indeed they would, as they were writing an opera. But take away the singing and you have some good music!.

    Well, this is like he said, it is for someone who is playing fingerstyle, which means the strings are being played up, so the high strings are plucked before the low. The normal way round would be with a plectrum, which means you would hit the treble strings first on a downstroke. The best is whatever you want to do, although I suspect a plectrum is more common, with a lot of strings to cover. One day I will get my 15 string

    Yes, I replaced the pots in my SR1000, and they are knackered again. But a pain to get as they are custom types

    This afternoon I fixed my TLB35. When removing the plastic from the pickguard when I got it, the knobs were stiff on the controls. Pulling them off broke one of the pots (it actually went in and out when you pressed it). So looking inside I saw how cheap they were (I suppose ok on such a cheap bass, although Ibanez aren't great on the more expensive ones either). Also noticed they were linear, so I got some log alpha pots, for £4 for 2. I swear it sounds better now although I can't think of any mechanism why that would be the case. however, they are much more useable as volume controls now! Original knob, pulling the knob out had pulled the shaft away from the rotator in the pot! With the replacement.

    Yes, the original spanish. Not that i use 'eye' for the start of it, that sounds like an americanism to me. Mine is ib-a-nez

    Not surprised. The could have just called themselves something simpler Well, that is how I would say it - obviously not using the original german Rickenbacher!

    The advantage here is even if someone was going to try and palm something of there would be a load of 'sorry, that isn't a 1973 P Bass, the screws are in the wrong place, or the controls are wrong', that they couldnt remove, whereas on ebay you can write that but it is up to the seller if it appears (and eBay wont' do anything fast).
