The Big Fat South-West Bass Bash - Now Sunday 19th September 2021
Woodinblack replied to scrumpymike's topic in Events
You did see the last group photo didn't you? -
I have been looking at all the reviews on and off for the Argon (and Cobalt) 8. They make it hard to choose. I went to PMT last week, I went in to test the argon 8 I knew they had. There was a sign saying 'please ask a member of staff before touching anything", so I tried to find staff, found a guy demonstrating roland stuff, seemed rude to ask him but I did anyway, he said it was ok. tried to play it, no sound, just loud EDM. black lead went off to a mixer, where 8 black leads were. Found a slider to turn up that gave sound, after a few minutes I realised nothing I did changed that sound and it was a moog just getting midi from the argon. Found the argon in the end. Tried to ask another member of staff as he was going past if I could mess with their mixer, got to 'can I ' and got 'yeh, sure'. Turned the argon up, but couldn't really hear it well over the EDM. Stayed 10 minutes, more staff than customers, but not one of them asked so I left. Made an offer on a £400 one on ebay for £370, but rejected, then noticed Andertons had 2 B_stock, one at £400 which had damage to the case and one that was £416 for 'damaged packaging'. Don't care about that so bought it on friday. Came today - this is what you lose by paying £416 instead of £521: As you can see, the box is a little worn. I guess I will have to live with that Everything inside the box was perfect though.

Wouldn't really matter if they did - bass is a transient thing anyway, a few spikes of full power and then most of the time next to nothing. Not like keys where you can actually be providing a continuous signal.

I think there is more rubbish quoted on this subject than any other in here! in total contrast to the number of "I blew my amp / speaker" threads.

You must surely like at least ONE song of theirs

The matriach is quite a bit bigger I would say - its another octave for a start. Don't know - what sort of thing do you want? I would pick the subsequent every day, but I like presets and cant be bothered wiring stuff up, did that in the past, don't need to now. If you want to spend a lot of time creating just the one sound, the matriach is probably the one you want.

If you write it here at the time, we can retain it for you!

Some VERY good news at last - live music back by the Spring?
Woodinblack replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
We had ours, first time I got to try my new basses and my ABM600, so great to be playing stuff! -
Bands you once hated but are now coming round to

Sometimes I have a time when I am playing along to something on youtube, then it suggests something else, so I play along to that, and just end up following it all down the rabbit hole. -

Same here - I listen to much wider selections of music than I ever did, its great. -

I think you will find there are quite a lot of us! -
Obviously, the only people who care about the details are us, to the audience its just the sound the long guitar makes.

They did. I don't see many gigs in pubs in my town! We have an outdoor gig in 3 weeks. -
They didn't have forums to agonise over the details then so they just went out and did it. We can do the same now.

Don't get that, in that I don't hear aerosmith like the rolling stones. I don't really like anything by the rolling stones (don't hate it either), but don't hear it like the rolling stones. Same here. But that is the way with taste. For me, if I like any songs, I generally like several as there is often a theme, unless they are one hit wonders. -
I must be pretty faddy with my Shuker Uberhorn, my Maruszczyk Elwood and my TC450 then, as none of those are going anywhere! I think I will add valve amps and currently spectors!

Which bands are guaranteed to buy from?
Woodinblack replied to stewblack's topic in General Discussion
When you only like one group, the chances are a list would seem unreal See, I would go for both of those, and when you think about their record rates, they balance out. Tool did 3 albums in 20 years, taylor did 3 in one! -
Mixist, Sound Technician, Sound Eng......No

I would tend to go for sound guy, as I don't really see guy specifying male -

I always had suspicions that the qualifications of the "Dr Beat" referred to by Miami Sound machine were a little suspect. And don't get me started on the Boss Dr Rythmn from the 80s, I have no idea how that learned anything, it could only do 16 steps of 4 drums. In reality, the UK is one of the few countries that doesn't have engineer as a reserved occupation. -
I don't know what is going on in this thread. Obviously hooky_lowdown and killed_by_death have had an argument about something else somewhere else and now there is a bit of stalking going on and it is being plastered over this totally unrelated thread where someone just wanted to know about a pickup. absolutely no one asked about any capacitors, so I don't understand why there is a raging argument about it, although I would say that nothing bigger than a millifarad has any application in an audio setting, and anything from a farad upwards would only be seen in an automotive engine, as effectively it would work like a short term battery (and would also need something very big to house it). You would never get something bigger than a micro farad in a bass, unless in the power supply stabilisation of a preamp, so obviously the unties are messed up. A megafarad doesn't exist outside of some crazy science experiment as it would be house sized. Can we just give it a break?
-
Yes, true I can bring it, only needs a spare pocket!
-
Is this like the Family Guy Chicken fight sketch where they just suddenly appear in unrelated rooms?

I got my BAM200 when behringer were doing the ebay bstock things, so mine was £85. i run it at home into my BC112 cab, sounds great. All my home practice is through it.

Normally, yes, but this is in the amp, so there is nowhere to put the HPF, unless there is one already built into the ABM600
