Helix Floor/LT/HX/Stomp/PodGo owners' Club - Tips, Ideas & Patches
Woodinblack replied to Al Krow's topic in Effects
It wasn't just a few years ago, as you can see, these things carry on. People seem to get very upset about other people liking any of the RH heads. Which I do! -
Can I damage my cab by playing too loud too low?
Woodinblack replied to ReeV0's topic in Amps and Cabs
no offence taken but the output rating of the RH750 is, as people will spout with an almost religious passion if you dare to like them, less than 300W, so into a 400W speaker you should be able to run it flat out at any frequency for hours on end (which wouldn't happen with playing) without it going close to the Kenny Loggins zone. -
I don't think so. If there is something you wanted (like I did) and now that same thing is now 10% cheaper, that is a worthwhile deal. As long as it was something you wanted in the first place.
-
Yeh, I have been trying to justify it for ages, and assumed it would have gone but then realised there were two. So now there are none. The 10% was just enough to push it over the edge, on the hope that one day it can get used Oh don't get me started on that, now my amp is actually slightly over the rating of my speakers so I am thinking, hmm.. do I need something else!
-
No, audiences are just wondering why the guy with the big guitar isn't doing a solo. Excessive distortion on "Abba-doesn't your mother know", Brown eyed girl (in the middle), subtler distortion in a few other things.
-
That is sort of my fear. I don't want to die, obvs, and if I do die I don't want the extended tube down my throat drawn out dying thing, but much more than that, I don't want to get it and live with the long tail version. If I can't concentrate and I can't move around without trouble, then I am not going to be able to be working. Its a small risk, but my markov decision process tells me that it really isn't worth the effort of playing mustang sally in a room with a bunch of people

PMT have 10% off, so I picked up their remaining B-Stock ABM600 Evo-IV, which was £389, so with the 10% off it was pretty well half price. Just what I need in a lockdown, a 600W amp

Can I damage my cab by playing too loud too low?
Woodinblack replied to ReeV0's topic in Amps and Cabs
From what I see on the net the power amp on the RH750 has a HPF (not the preamp), to keep the lows out. As the RH750 produces less power than the RS212 speakers rating, I am not sure it would be possible to damage it. Not something I would worry about. However, if the sound made your ears funny, that is certianly something to worry about. -

I know that, if you are going against the power limit it will compress. I just wondered what 'artificial' compression was. I also gig with a 100W Ashdown CTM100. Obviously when I am gigging with that it is also compressed as it is running quite hard, in fact more so because I am running it harder. Is that 'natural' compression? Its just the terms that I was wondering about, not what compression was. -
That's why it doesn't rattle

Maybe I just don't know what 'artificial compression' is, but it certainly never caused me an issue, maybe that is why I don't mind it. The knobs were bad (although the replacements they sent me haven't cracked - maybe different plastic). Certainly never had a issue with it being underpowered too, and the group is too loud anyway (although we only play pubs and clubs), which is a concern I have with the CTM. -

Yes. Obviously one persons ideal tone is anothers nightmare but I trust the TC450, it has never let me down, it weighs very little and fits in a bag great, its not delicate and I have never not been able to get a good sound for it in any given circumstance. And it has a full time tuning light on the front that the guitarist can look at to reming him of what key he is supposed to be in. -

I was thinkin this. I have done.. from my reckoning, 130+ gigs with my 450 and I am not really thinking of changing it any time soon. Again, mine has either been with the RS cabs (2 x 112) or the BC cab. Probably done about 10 gigs with my Ashdown CTM100, probably a better tone overall but loses on the Clean volume / weight / convenience scale. -
Some VERY good news at last - live music back by the Spring?
Woodinblack replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
We do indeed, focusing on just one thing. Congrats to the British/Swedish astrozenica for funding the devlopment of the vaccine developed by scientists and researchers from many countries in Europe and beyond, using techniques developed around the world. Its amazing how much science you can do when you can remove borders. -

hahaha - an email to my MP, that would be a fine idea. Or I could just write it on some toilet paper, at least that would be a bit more constructive. Seriously, my MP is just flown in to make up the numbers, and is of absolutely no use whatsoever. The only time he is in the town is for photo ops. -

A disappointment? The title of the piece in the BBC is "Covid-19: Oxford University vaccine is highly effective' doesn't sound too negative but maybe I am reading it wrong? -
I was going to get the one on eBay tonight because I have always been a sucker for the mother of Pearl thing, and was just talking about it and had a wave of sensible come over me. I have too many basses,, I still have some I need to sell. do want a semi acoustic at some point though!
-
Good advice there. I almost bought a bass today but didn't for that reason

John Lydon always strikes me as someone who thinks he is far smarter than he really is. A lot of these people forget just how much luck was involved in them being where they are.

I think in the time of the smiths, Morrisey was fairly important to the band just because no-one else sounded that dreary and moaning which contrasted fantastically with the bouncy upbeat music, and if it had been someone else it wouldn't be the same. However, listening to Johnny Marrs album, which he is singing himself, its pretty clear he could have done it all himself, but the group just needed a focus. Post smiths, it doesn't work - morrisey is not interesting on his own, it was the contrast that was good. So I will say, yes, he was important for a small part of the 80s.
-
It is, but as he said, he is doing it by request and if that is what people want to hear its not unreasonable. There are always going to be orders of magnitudes more PF fans than any of the other groups. I do think that any of the PF songs should be easy enough to work out, although I still keep trying noto get the original bass line of One Slip to sound right

Hmm.. never really worked for me. regardless what any meter says, it is just easier to try it and see what it is like when playing at volume. I think most of my stuff got set up at sound checks a long time ago and left since then. I don't use the HX FX in the house anyway so it doesn't matter there. -
I haven't listened to radio 4 for a while (news got too depressing and had to stop listening), but although there are a lot more examples of this on BBC1 television channels, Radio 4 is far from immune. I listened when they had a 'climate debate' between a number of climate scientists talking about man made global warming and the well known climate scientist Nigel Lawson, who was saying there was no evidence of it. Yes, that Nigel Lawson (ex thatcher CoE and Prominant brexiter who then failed to get his french citizenship after we left). Both sides were given equal weigh so they were 'Balanced'. I hope if you say you have never heard anything like that, you have only just started listening and it has got better, but it was certainly not uncommon back a few years ago. - edit Oh yes, here is a bit on that: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/apr/09/bbc-radio-4-broke-impartiality-rules-in-nigel-lawson-climate-change-interview and I note that they had been done for that previously, but there are other examples of this sort of behaviour. As I said, radio 4 is about the best. BBC1 news is about the worst,

Which is exactly how I use mine. In that end the LT gave me an additional two foot pedals, which were ok, an expression pedal I didn't use, but unfortunately took away a huge amount of space, which is more important Luckily never seen it so I don't miss it. Although metering doesn't seem like anything I would need live - I have the mixing screen of the X18 in front of me, enough metering for anyone!
