  1. Well, that depends if you want to go down the synth rabbit hole! I did enjoy playing with the synths, even though I find that on bass they are a lot slower to react then on guitars obviously. However, with the SY stuff in there, maybe they have cracked that.
  2. This is the new GR with the SY bits thrown in which will help correct issues with the GR range concerning latency etc and add more features. So it is logically a replacement for the GR55 (which is a bit old now). As such, the 13 pin GK interface is vital for its use. If you have no plans to use the 13 pin interface (which you can actually do on this, unlike previous ones) then this isn't a box that is worth your time or money, it would just be like an SY-1/300 with a bigger footprint. This is a synthesiser, not a 'synth pedal' as such, as such it produces midi, can be chained to other synthesizers, and I suspect contains the latest itteration of whatever rolands mainstream synth engine is. The 24 pin interface you are talking about up there is dead tech that was abandoned by Roland a long time ago. If people want to fiddle around with the old guitars they have to change the interface between what they have and the 13 pin, it is nothing that Roland will ever deal with again. Agreed, once you have slapped a GK3b on (or used your GK capable bass if you have one), you are good to go, and it probably won't get better than this for a good while yet. No, had the same problem with my Stick, Stick enterprises provide a GK pickup at a slight markup of £OMFG or the other option is making it yourself, both which aren't totally apealing. Actually easy enough to make yourself complexity wise, just the time it takes to do it I know I would never get round to it (and I klnow this as I have a GK3 pickup just there -> waiting for me to do it which I got last year)
  3. Like this thread? Its not a synth pedal, it is a synth. Its the update of the GR (10/20/33) range combined with the SY-1/300 technology, so it does both the 13 pin GR stuff (needing a GK pickup) as well as the SY-1 stuff. As such it is pretty impressive, and if I had the room / bass with the gk3 still on / money, I would have one right now! Not sure what you mean about 24 to 13 pin converter? This is a standard 13 pin GK interface isn't it?
  4. Yes, I mean the spectradrive! I haven't had a chance to really play with the drive. it didn't seem inspiring by default (I dont' know what the default is).
  5. TBH: any time I have been in a hospital waiting room I would have welcomed the diversion!
  6. Was it you or someone else that said about noise on the B1-four? Got the spectracomp today, plugged it in, thought 'god thats loud noisy', then bypassed, and it sounded teh same, so put the lead round the back instead and it still was. I guess I had turned the level up somehow! With levels where they should be, its fine, just got to find some drive toneprint that I like
  7. Thats what I had from bax, they lost the bass. And once advised of a refund, that took a while too. Would expect a bit better of bass direct, but then I have never exactly had good service from them either.
  8. Althought that isn't to knock some of their other lyrics, such as "The flowers in your kitchen, they weep for you"
  9. Ok, so are there a lot of people ready to switch from the helix because it hasn't got enough effects?
  10. Just bought a SpectraDrive today
  11. Fine here on Firefox, says that the certificate is invalid but doesn't stop me going there. Mind you, that is because I am going to http://www.sfxsound.com/home . If I went to the https site it wouldn't work as the certficate is invalid https://www.sfxsound.com/home/ I have the same issue on my site, with chrome it will default to going to an https site if you don't tell iit.
  12. My maruszczyk has a flame maple neck, its pretty solid and only adjusted it when I put tapewounds on it once.
  13. Not sure if it is doing something wrong or just the settings on my iPad, but when I plug the red lead in the headphone I just get the sound from the microphones on the iPad, so as a result it doesn't work. Seems like logically it should, and maybe it is my hardware. oh hang on, I have an older iPad, I wonder what it does with that? Nope, that doesn't work either.
  14. ok, didn't think of that, I will give it a try. Oh, presumably a iOS device with a headphone
  15. I have the SC01, so no idea about the XLR (although it seems like it should, the manual is downloadable). The batteries last for ages. I use rechargeables as I have loads of them around. you can plug an iPhone in the aux in (or the link) but obviously if you wanted to 'use it as an effector' you would have to take the output from the iPhone, so the bass would have to go into the iPhone rather than the input. So I am not sure what they are getting at there.
  16. Well, Van Halen weren't VH without the original lineup. Everyone knows that!
  17. Jesters tear is pretty much my favourite. After that it all went downhill!
  18. He did, then Geddy Lee sung it. He is such a copycat, must be irritating.
  19. Its fairly pointless to try and make someone to like something they don't like, as at best all you are going to get really is appreciation for skill, but not like. Yep, case in point. After you mentioning them I listened to what you recommended. I really don't hear any of that, or anything memorable or interesting in it. I think there is something that gets fixed somewhere and after a point, certain types of music just don't chime.
  20. I find DSOTM a classic album that changed a lot but it is not something I would listen too much, I think WYWH is a more complete album, as is the wall. I enjoy listening to PG era Genesis, but to me it is the group that would become the PC era Genesis which is what Genesis is in my head from Trick of the Tail down. I think PG leaving Genesis was the best thing that happened to music, I think it produced a better Genesis and a better Peter Gabriel. Rush, anything before Hold Your Fire are fantastic albums that I can listen to any time, and on any different day I would pick a different album as a favourite, even down to the first 2. from hold your fire on I never really got into it, and although I had friends that said 'oh you should listen to the new album, its like they used to be', it never was fro me.
  21. I left a band, followed by the drummer, 2 singers. Upon which the keys (the reason everyone left) said don't leave and left himself so everyone rejoined. He has since made noises about rejoining but it really isn't an option.
  22. That is really sad, when van Haley hit there was nothing like them
  23. That is lovely. Still so tempted but.. Maybe when I get back up to £3k of gigging money!
